Here are 21 unique things to do to romanticize your life and give yourself major main character vibes.
Of all the crazy and perky trends that have popped out of social media, romanticizing life is my favorite.
Before I became familiar with this practice, I lived in a clean and ordinary room with a neat desk in the corner that served as my workstation.
I believed in being productive first and then rewarding myself for the job.
But now, your girl has fairy lights hanging over her wall and she rewards herself while she’s doing the work.
Burning scented candles, drinking coffee on the balcony, and wearing what feels good — I do all the little things to feel like the main character of my life.
No, I didn’t suddenly get rich; I just learned to sprinkle some love and sparkle into my routine tasks.
Life was okay before, but now, it’s a lot more than okay. It’s pretty, a word that aptly describes what romanticizing your life is about.
What On Earth Does Romanticizing Mean?
If you’ve never heard of this concept before, romanticizing your life means doing things that make you feel like the main character of your story instead of someone who’s just going through the motions of life.
It’s about enjoying the little things and making your existence more special to your own self.
Example — Having a signature perfume or a hairstyle that makes you darn confident.
Those are two very popular ideas for romanticizing your life, but I’m here to share something different today.
In this post, we’ll look at 21 unique ideas to romanticize your life and add magic to your days.
If you’re ready to add a touch of romance to your daily life and turn the ordinary moments extraordinary, then read on.
21 Unique Ways To Romanticize Your Life
1. Sit On The Floor
My favorite YouTuber Ava Jules said in a video that she loves doing normal stuff on the floor like makeup, napping, and reading.
The idea appealed to me so much that I started doing the same.
Sitting on the floor offers you a different perspective on things.
It’s calming, and grounding, and makes you feel more connected to your space. Add humbling to the list too.
Next time you have a book to read, or a cup of tea to sip, take over the floor, and enjoy feeling girlie and young.
2. Have A Themed Day
Halloween and parties aren’t the only occasions to play by theme. You can have a themed day for yourself too!
For example, let’s say you decide to have a French-themed day (ultimate romance vibes).
Start your day with a French breakfast of croissants and French coffee.
Dress in stripes and a beret, and spend time listening to French music.
Visit a local art gallery or read a book by a French author, and end your day with a classic French film like Amélie.
By dedicating a day to a specific theme, you can escape your routine and experience a different culture without leaving your town.
3. Turn Your Bathroom into a Spa
For a relaxing evening at home, turn your bathroom into a spa and pamper yourself with a luxurious treatment.
Hang eucalyptus leaves from your showerhead for aromatic steam, light scented candles, and play soft music on your phone.
Prepare a warm bath with Epsom salts, essential oils, and flower petals. Apply a face mask and exfoliate with a homemade scrub.
Sometimes, self-care on this level is all you need to unwind and leave your stress behind.
4. Make A Happiness Jar
I don’t know about you, but I tend to forget the things that make me happy, or could be that I don’t feel worthy of it so I deliberately don’t indulge in joyful acts.
My happiness jar has been saving me from this self-sabotage. You can make one for yourself too!
Find a jar or container and decorate it with ribbons, stickers, or paint.
Every day, write activities on a small piece of paper and throw it in the jar.
Make the chits as specific as you can, like reading while having coffee and two chocolate cookies, watching the stars while listening to Kacey Musgraves, and playing tug of war with your dog.
Over time, your jar will fill up with happy acts that are personal to you.
Whenever you need some feel-good vibes, take some notes and pick something to do right then. You’ll love doing this, I promise.

5. Have A DIY Art Night
Growing up, I hated brushes and paints. But the adult me has recognized the joy of creating something out of nothing.
I am not an art prodigy by any means, but I love sitting in bed doodling and creating art in my journal.
It’s therapeutic, creative, and so so fun.
For your DIY art night, gather art supplies like paints, brushes, canvases, and markers.
Set up a space with good lighting and inspiring music. Choose a theme or let your imagination run wild.
Don’t worry about creating a masterpiece. Just focus on the joy of expressing yourself through art and have a good time.
6. Explore Your Town Like A Tourist
We all dream of life-changing trips to foreign lands.
I hope you get to visit all your dream locations, but till those plans come to fruition, explore all the wonderful things that are right around you.
Visit areas in your city you’ve never been to before.
Also, go to familiar spots but explore them through a tourist’s eyes.
Walk through the streets, browse local shops, and try a new café or restaurant.
Take photos of interesting architecture, street art, and local landmarks.
You’ll come back with a deeper appreciation of your place.
7. Camp In Your Living Room
Ever made an indoor camp? Probably as a kid, but not as an adult.
On a day when you’re in the mood for some cozy indoor adventure, create a camp in your living room.
Set up a tent or build a blanket fort, and fill it with soft pillows, sleeping bags, and fairy lights.
Make microwave snacks, play nature sounds in the background, or watch a camping-themed movie.
If you’re doing this with someone, then you can also share ghost stories and play board games.
Perfect activity to bring back your childhood memories and escape from the monotony of life.

8. Write Poetry On Your Mirrors
This tip is for those of you who love finding meaning and inspiration in quotes and poems.
Write your favorite poem lines, song lyrics, or quotes in the mirror in your room or bathroom so that you feel a spark every time you look at your reflection.
You can use a dry-erase marker or write on colored chits and stick them on the mirror surface.
Change the words regularly to keep things fresh and exciting.
Reading these uplifting messages every day will cheer your heart and remind you of the beauty in language and self-expression.

9. Bake Bread From Scratch
Out of all the baked goods out there, homemade bread is the most soothing.
It’s one of those ‘simple pleasure’ things that can’t be replaced by anything else.
Choose a recipe, gather the ingredients, and enjoy the process of kneading, shaping, and baking the dough.
The smell of fresh bread wafting through your home will give you instant fairy tale vibes.
You can share the finished loaf with family or friends, or savor it yourself with butter and jam.
10. Make A Time Capsule
I’ve been loving reading books on time travel lately.
While the concept might not be a reality at the moment, you can create a romanticized version of it by making a time capsule.
Choose a container and fill it with items that represent who you are today—photos, letters, small souvenirs, and a list of your favorite things.
Seal the container and bury it in your yard or hide it in a closet.
Set a date in the future to open it, and look forward to the surprise and nostalgia you’ll feel when you rediscover these treasures.
11. Have A No-Electricity Night
For fans of historical romance, here is a fun and quirky challenge — spend an evening without electricity, or at least without as many electric appliances as you can.
Turn off all the lights and burn some candles.
Embrace the simplicity of a bygone era by reading books in candlelight, playing board games with your family, and having meaningful conversations.
Prepare a meal that doesn’t require cooking or use a camp stove.
This unplugged experience will help you reconnect with yourself and those around you, free from modern distractions.
Probably not everyone’s idea of a fun night, but if you’re up for this, then you have my respect.
12. Create A Vision Book
As much as I love the intention behind vision boards, they’re too modern (and too popular) for my liking.
If you prefer flipping through pages over staring at a big board in your room, then create a vision book.
Buy a notebook or scrapbook and dedicate each page to different dreams and goals.
Fill it with images, quotes, and affirmations that inspire you, and keep updating your vision book to add your new dreams.
This book will act as a personal visual guide of your aspirations and remind you of all the beautiful dreams that you are made of.
13. Make Your Own Perfume
Create a signature scent by making your own perfume.
Gather essential oils that you love and experiment with different combinations.
Start with a base note, add middle notes, and finish with top notes.
Mix the oils with a carrier oil or alcohol, and let the blend sit for a few weeks to develop.
Wear your custom perfume to remind yourself of your creativity and personal style.

14. Have Themed Movie Nights
Movie nights become a hit during the holiday season, but I think you should host them all year round, even if it’s just for yourself.
On nights when you’re in the mood to stay up, choose a genre, director, or actor and watch a series of related films.
For example, a classic horror night might have movies like Psycho, The Shining, and Night of the Living Dead.
You can even dress up, make themed snacks, and decorate your space to match the theme.
I recently rewatched The Twilight series in one sitting, and oh my, I now know why I once went crazy for Edward Cullen, haha.
15. Read Tarot Cards For Yourself
Whether you believe in Tarot or not, you can’t deny the charm of tarot reading.
Buy a tarot deck, and whenever you’re in bed looking for ways to kill time, do a reading for yourself.
As you shuffle the deck, focus on a question or area of your life that you need guidance or answers on.
Draw a few cards and interpret their meanings using a guidebook or your intuition.
Tarot readings can offer insight, reflection, and a deeper connection to your inner self. A hobby worth trying at least once in your life.
16. Send Postcards
Ever thought of reviving the lost art of sending postcards?
I hadn’t either. until I bought a set of Game Of Thrones postcards mistaking them to be pictures.
I was tempted to keep them to myself but then I wrote a note for my brother, and couldn’t get myself to stop.
It’s hands down the cutest and most personal way to share a message with a loved one.
Choose postcards with beautiful images or quirky designs.
Write a personal message on each one, sharing updates, funny stories, or words of encouragement and love.
Now, send them to your loved ones all over your town, country, and the world!
17. Learn Calligraphy
If you’ve ever dreamt of having beautiful handwriting, then it might be time to finally start learning calligraphy.
Purchase a calligraphy set and practice different styles of lettering in your free time.
As your skills grow, practice by writing letters, creating beautiful journal entries, or designing custom stationery (because why not?).
The art of calligraphy can be meditative and satisfying, and it’ll make you feel like a proper lady from the Downton Abbey era.

Bring the beauty of nature indoors by planting a mini herb garden.
Choose a variety of herbs like basil, mint, and rosemary, and plant them in small pots or a window box.
Place them in a sunny spot and water them regularly.
Now, picture yourself in your gardener mode and using fresh herbs in your cooking. You look pretty, right?
Nurturing your herbs will be like looking after a loved one. Plus, the presence of nature in your home will be like therapy for your soul.
19. Keep A Selection Of Teas In Your Pantry
There are plenty of healthy and unhealthy drinks in the market to pick from, but if you’re looking to foster wellness in life, tea is your BFF.
It’s healthy, rejuvenating, and a classy way to romanticize your life.
Instead of sticking to the usual flavors, buy a new type each month.
I am talking about chamomile, peach, hibiscus, honey, and green tea.
Make it an everyday ritual to sip a cup of tea and have a cookie or two with it.
I never thought I’d be a tea girlie, but here I am, with about a dozen different flavors of tea in my pantry and an obsession with collecting cute tea cups.
It gets addicting real fast peeps, in a good way for sure.
20. Make Your Own Potpourri
Every aromatherapy lover needs a personalized potpourri.
It gives a pleasant fragrance to your home without any artificial irritants.
Gather dried flowers, herbs, and spices such as lavender, rose petals, cinnamon sticks, and cloves.
Mix them together and place them in a decorative bowl or sachet to keep in your living room.
Refresh the scent with a few drops of essential oil as needed, and enjoy coming home to the scent of nature.
21. Keep A Dream Journal
Did you know that reflecting on your dreams can provide insight into your subconscious thoughts and feelings?
If not for the sake of self-reflection, it’s fun to keep track of your dreams and see all the wild things your brain gets up to when you’re sleeping.
Keep a journal by your bedside and write down your dreams as soon as you wake up.
Over time, you may notice patterns or recurring themes. It’ll help you explore your inner world and understand yourself better.
A Bonus Tip For You
Here’s an extra tip for romanticizing your life that just might be the most important one.
When you look at the world around you, do it with a sense of wonder, as if you’re seeing everything for the first time.
I don’t think this is pretending, because if you think about it, everything around you is actually brand new.
With every passing second, you enter a new time, and so do the things around you.
So, appreciate the newness of the good old stuff, be it the water you drink every morning, the flower bed you cross on your way to work, or meeting a friend after a few hours apart.
Wake up with a sense of wonder, and go to bed with the same mindset.
That is the best you can do to romanticize your life and find joy in the ordinary moments.
