Here are 30 whimsical things you can do to make your life magical, wonderful, and enchanting.

Every now and then, the Internet brings forward a trend that really resonates with me and makes me want to join in.
This year, the trend (or shall I call it a wonderful practice) is to add whimsy to your life.
If you spend any time scrolling or reading articles, you might have come across it already.
From whimsy nails to whimsy decor and even whimsy hobbies, everyone is suddenly obsessed with this cute trend.
But in this post, we’re going a bit deeper than the surface-level whimsy and looking at whimsy as a habit, mindset, and cozy practice.
If you don’t know already, whimsy refers to playful, creative, magical, and quirky things. Another great way to describe it would be enchanting.
It’s the feeling you get when you walk barefoot on the grass in a pretty dress, or add real elements of nature (like pressed leaves) to your home decor.
Whimsy just makes your life more enchanting (that just might be the best way to describe it).
It can also help you take the seriousness out of your life and make your days feel like they belong in a cozy and fancy movie.
If you like the sound of that (which, honestly, you should), then you’re going to love this post.
We are going to look at 31 whimsical things you can do (as often as you wish) to add magic and wonder to your everyday life.

If things have felt too busy, too serious, or too repetitive lately, then consider this your gentle reminder to magic back into your ordinary days.
Read on for the best whimsical ideas ever!
31 Whimsical Things To Do
1. Start a tiny treasure box
When I was younger, I used to keep tiny treasures tucked into little boxes.
It used to have things like movie tickets, pretty rocks, notes from friends, and seashells I absolutely did not need but insisted on keeping anyway.
As adults, I feel the need to bring this hobby back, and you should do the same.
Find a little box, tin, or jar and start collecting tiny things that you want to remember.
You can keep pressed flowers from a walk, polaroids, postcards, receipts from unexpectedly good days, and small keepsakes that would otherwise be forgotten.
Months and even years later, opening your treasure box will feel like flipping through little snapshots of your life.
2. Wear something delightfully unnecessary

You don’t need permission to wear something that makes you feel happy, pretty, and cute.
Wear something delightful just because you can.
You can put a ribbon in your hair, wear earrings you keep saving for an occasion, or put on a cute dress on an otherwise ordinary afternoon.
If it’s cold, then you can wear a cardigan that makes you feel like the main character in a cozy film.
Tiny moments of whimsy often come from choices like this.
3. Learn the stories behind flowers
Flowers become so much more interesting once you learn what they symbolize.
Roses aren’t just roses. Lavender isn’t just lavender.
Many flowers have meanings, folklore, myths, and centuries of stories attached to them.
The next time you come across a flower you love, spend a few minutes learning about it on your phone (the good kind of scrolling).
You’ll start seeing entire stories hidden inside ordinary gardens.
4. Make tiny wishes

Whenever you spot 11:11 on the clock, blow out a candle, see a shooting star, or catch a dandelion floating through the air, make a tiny wish.
Don’t even worry about it coming true. Just make the wish.
But because there’s something so beautiful and hopeful about allowing yourself to imagine a future you’d love.
Adulthood can make us practical to a fault. We are too careful, realistic, and practical at times.
Making tiny wishes reminds us it’s still okay to dream a little, even if it is just for a moment.
5. Keep a ‘Beautiful Things’ journal
I love the idea of collecting beautiful moments the same way we collect photographs. And you don’t even need a lot of time or money to make this happen.
Just get a little journal and every evening, write down three beautiful things you noticed that day.
There shouldn’t be any accomplishments or productivity wins. Just beautiful things that touched you during the day.
It can be sunlight spilling across your kitchen counter, a stranger laughing loudly at something joyful, the smell of coffee, fresh sheets, or rain tapping against your window.
The more you do this, the more you’ll begin noticing things while they’re happening, which is just a lovely way to move through life.
6. Read fairy tales again

I know fairy tales are often meant for children, but if there’s even a tiny part of you that feels happy at the idea of picking up a fairytale book again, then do it.
Spend an afternoon revisiting the stories you loved growing up or discovering new ones you’ve never read before. Read them before bed if you want to!
Fairy tales remind us that magic, courage, wonder, and hope have always been important parts of being human.
And honestly, a little enchantment never hurt anybody.
7. Spend ten minutes watching birds
Birds are surprisingly entertaining. They’re dramatic, territorial, and weirdly expressive.
And the only reason you need to watch them is that they are part of nature. I see them as messengers of Mother Nature, and that always makes me love observing them.
The next time you’re sitting outside (at a park, outdoor cafe, or near your window), spend ten uninterrupted minutes simply watching the birds.
You’ll start noticing tiny things like the
Notice the way they hop around like they own the place, the tiny arguments they seem to have, and the confidence of pigeons, specifically.
Besides being whimsical, this activity is also very grounding and calming. It will remind you that our big world is made up of tiny little worlds.
8. Build a blanket fort

I will forever defend blanket forts. They’re fun at eight, and still fun at twenty-eight.
Gather every blanket, pillow, and cozy thing you own. And build a glorious or simple blanket fort.
Then fully commit to spending time inside it.
Bring snacks, put up some fairy lights, and watch your comfort movie or read a book you’ve been meaning to.
Spend the entire evening there like it’s perfectly normal, because maybe it should be.
Adults have plenty of responsibilities and plenty of deadlines.
So, a little playfulness every now and then is necessary to bring in the happiness that you are so deserving of.
9. Read poetry outside
Poetry feels different outdoors.
Maybe it’s because everything feels slower when you’re right under the sky, or maybe it’s because you read without rushing.
It just feels more magical and meaningful.
Bring a poetry book to a balcony, park bench, backyard, or sunny spot near an open window. And read really slowly.
There’s no pressure to understand every metaphor or hidden meaning. Just let the words exist.
Some poems might not make any sense, but there will also be some with words you’ll think about for weeks. The beauty of poems!
10. Make a cloud-watching playlist

I’m convinced cloud-watching is one of life’s most underrated activities ever.
To get started, you should first create a playlist filled with songs that make you want to stare out a window and romanticize your existence.
I’d put songs that are dreamy, slow, and slightly nostalgic.
Then, on a nice day, head outside with your phone and headphones.
Lie on a blanket in the park, sit on your balcony, or simply find a sunny patch of grass somewhere quiet.
And for twenty minutes, do nothing but just watch the clouds drifting across the sky.
You’ll find comfort and joy underneath the big blue sky and realize there’s more to life than staying stuck in your worries all day.
11. Watch the sunrise once a week
I am not asking you to wake up at 5am every morning. This isn’t that kind of article.
But I just think everyone deserves to watch a sunrise every now and then for no reason other than it’s beautiful.
You might not be able to do it every day, but you sure can do it once a week.
The night before, look up the time of sunrise for the next morning, and then set your alarm for fifteen minutes before that.
Wake up, freshen up quickly, and drink a glass of water. Then bring a blanket, a warm drink, and a sleepy version of yourself outside.
Sit or stand quietly while the sun rises and the sky slowly changes its color.
Every time I watch the sun rise, I feel emotional because I am reminded that a new beginning happens every 24 hours.
And that’s a pretty wonderful reason to love being in this world.
12. Press flowers between book pages

Every time I press flowers between pages of a book, I feel like I’ve wandered into a novel where everyone writes letters and owns beautiful old books.
The next time you’re on a walk, pick a flower that catches your eye (responsibly, of course). You can also pick a pretty leaf off the ground.
Tuck it into the pages of a heavy book and forget about it for a while.
Weeks later, you’ll open it and find something delicate and beautiful waiting for you.
It will feel like a tiny surprise from a past version of yourself.
13. Get your nails done whimsy-style
If you’re someone who enjoys getting your nails done, consider this your sign to lean fully into the whimsy.
Instead of your usual neutral shade, try something a little more playful.
You can get tiny strawberries, little stars, clouds, bows, flowers, mushrooms, cherries, ladybugs, or moons. The options are endless!
Whimsy nails are one of those tiny things that bring surprising amounts of joy because you see them all day long.
Every time you reach for your coffee, type on your laptop, or turn a page in a book, you’ll catch a glimpse of your whimsy nails and feel their energy.
14. Collect whimsy art and things

If you truly want to embrace a whimsical life, then your senses need to be exposed to the whimsy aesthetic often.
You can keep a whimsy-themed journal, paste whimsy art in a scrapbook, or have loads of Pinterest boards dedicated to whimsy things.
Add some whimsy pieces to your decor, like a cute little fox, framed witchy artwork, and pictures of enchanted forests.
When buying mugs, journals, and jewellery, try to pick the whimsiest option available.
This will add the most magical and whimsy touch to your everyday activities, space, and vibes.
15. Name the neighborhood cats
Every area has at least one random cat that just sits on the fences, judges everyone who walks past, and always looks like it has important appointments.
The next time you see one, give it a name. Not because the cat needs a name, but because it’s fun!
Maybe there’s a fluffy orange cat called Marmalade. Maybe a grumpy black cat called Professor Midnight.
This will make your walks feel more interesting because you’ll be checking in on your unofficial feline neighbors.
16. Build a cozy day box and use it when you want to

There are days when the weather and your mood sync well to create a naturally cozy ambiance.
But on most routine days, you have to build cozy. And having a cozy day box is the most clever idea for this.
Fill a small box with cozy things, and reach for it on a rainy, sad, or random day when you need comfort or just want to be happy.
Here are some things you can add to your cozy day box:
- Tea bags
- A candle
- A puzzle
- Dark chocolates
- A pretty notebook
- A sweet perfume and body lotion
- A good book
- A handwritten note to yourself
If you want to keep things interesting, change some of the items in the box at the start of the month.
Then the next time you are craving coziness, all you have to do is reach for the box and make it happen yourself.
17. Learn about the night sky and do stargazing
The night sky becomes infinitely more interesting when you know what you’re looking at.
You can get a space encyclopedia, watch fun astronomy videos on YouTube that explain things simply, and learn about the constellations.
And then put this knowledge to use by stargazing often.
There’s something wonderfully whimsical about realizing the same stars have been watched by people for thousands of years.
You can also focus on the moon and its many cycles and watch it change every night.
It will make you feel connected to something much bigger than yourself.
18. Dye your hair an interesting color

If you’ve always wanted to dye your hair in an interesting color, then there’s no bolder way to add whimsy to your life.
Maybe you’ve always liked pink hair of anime characters or you’re obsessed with fiery red hair. Go to a salon and get it done safely.
Your personality will get a makeover and you’ll feel like a whimsical person every day till the color lasts.
19. Have a themed movie night without any occasion
Who decided movie nights needed special occasions?
I mean, yes, I definitely enjoy watching Christmas movies in December, but if you wanted to, you can have a Christmas movie night in July also.
One of my wonderful readers actually suggested this idea in an email, and I loved it!
You can watch cottagecore movies or movies set in bookstores. If it’s winter but you wish it were summer, you can watch beach movies.
Wear pajamas that match the mood, make themed snacks, and decorate your living room if you’re feeling extra.
The sillier you are about it, the more fun it will be (truly whimsical).
20. Feed your imagination regularly

As adults, we’re often encouraged to focus on practical things, and I am not denying the importance of that.
But imagination deserves attention too, maybe even more as a grown-up, because of the added burden of responsibilities.
So, feed your imagination whichever way you can.
Read fantasy novels, watch magical movies, and listen to vivid music.
Let yourself daydream, create things out of nothing (stories, poems, or drawings), and explore TV shows that have the biggest imagination (Game of Thrones comes to mind, of course).
The more you nurture your imagination, the more wonder you’ll naturally notice in everyday life, and the more whimsy everything will feel.
21. Keep a list of delightful words
Some words are simply lovely and delightful. We might not use them in our everyday life, but reading or speaking them out loud feels truly whimsical.
Keep a list of such words, and make it pretty! Use sparkly gel pens and a cute notebook. And feel free to draw sometimes.
Here are some of my favorites:
- Lullaby
- Moonbeam
- Marmalade
- Twilight
- Meadow
- Crimson
If you want to take this up a notch, you can write poetry or a paragraph on some of the words whenever the inspiration strikes.
Add new words whenever you come across them.
You’ll end up with a collection of words that feel like little treasures all on their own. And if you end up using them in real life, well, what could be more whimsical than that, right?
22. Have a picnic for one

Solo dates are recommended a lot these days, and I am the biggest stan, too. And my favorite one is having a picnic by myself.
Whenever you want some quiet outdoor time, pack snacks, a blanket, and a book, and head somewhere pretty all by yourself.
Spend time on a patch of grass without checking your phone and enjoy being out in nature.
You might feel slightly awkward for the first five minutes. After that, you’ll wonder why you don’t do it more often.
23. Listen to whimsy music
Lately, I’ve been exploring music that feels like it belongs in an enchanted forest, and honestly, it’s been such a lovely experience.
One artist I am listening to a lot is Aurora. Her music is magical, earthy, dreamy, and otherworldly all at once.
Her songs make me want to wander through wildflower fields, write poetry, and stare out the window while pondering my life. It feels whimsical to me.
Of course, whimsy music can mean something different for everyone. Just create a playlist of songs that wake up your imagination.
Play it while you’re reading, walking, journaling, cleaning your room, or doing nothing, and let music be your slice of heaven amidst the normal.
24. Celebrate tiny seasonal changes

Most of us only notice major holidays and events. But seasons are constantly giving us tiny reasons to celebrate.
The first rainy day, the first jasmine bloom, the first cool evening after a hot summer, and the first day you need a cardigan again.
Whenever something like that happens, pay attention and let yourself be happy about it.
You can even have rituals associated with each. Like, I always pick up a cozy book and bake cookies when it’s the first shower of the monsoon.
Doing these little things will make you feel much more connected to the world around you and, of course, add whimsy to your life, too.
25. Read a book in unusual places
We all tend to read in the same handful of spots in the house, like the couch or the bed.
But now and then, you should take your book somewhere different.
Read under a tree, on a picnic blanket, or on your balcony when the weather is cool and pretty.
You can also sit in a museum cafe, on a bench under a big tree, or
If you are an avid reader like me, building a reading nook in your house might be a great idea.
You can set up a seat with cushions, blankets, and warm lights. Whimsy reading at its best!
26. Invent your own traditions

Create rituals and traditions that belong entirely to you.
You can buy yourself flowers on the first day of every month, rewatch the same movie or show every autumn (that’s Gilmore Girls for me), or spend every birthday morning at your favorite cafe.
Traditions don’t have to be inherited to be meaningful. Sometimes the most magical traditions are the ones we create ourselves.
27. Create your own signature drink
Why should cafes have signature drinks? I think everyone deserves one.
Experiment with iced tea, herbs, sparkling water, citrus, honey, coffee — whatever sounds fun.
It can become your cozy evening drink or something you make every rainy day.
To make this even more whimsical, give your drink a fun and unique name (just like the cafes).
You can call something like Main Character Tea, Rainy Crainy, or Moonlight Lemonade.
Lol, I don’t have the most creative names right now, but I am sure you’ll come up with better stuff.
28. Visit a garden and pretend you’re in a period drama

This might sound ridiculous, but that’s exactly why it’s fun.
When you visit a botanical garden, rose garden, or a pretty park, pretend like you’re in a period drama.
Leave your phone in your bag for a while, walk slowly, admire the flowers, and sit on a bench and watch the world go by.
Pretend you’re the main character in a novel who’s just wandered outside for a thoughtful afternoon stroll.
Will anyone know? No. But will it make the experience ten times more enjoyable? Absolutely.
29. Leave a tiny note inside a library book
If you’re someone who still borrows books from a library, then do this. Tuck a tiny handwritten note inside a book when returning it.
You can write something like:
- “I hope today surprises you in the best way.”
- “You picked a good book.”
- “Whoever finds this, I hope something lovely happens to you this week.”
You’ll probably never know who finds it, but that’s part of the charm.
There’s something very soothing about sending a little kindness into the world without expecting anything back.
30. Wear a signature scent to bed

Most people save perfume for going out. I think that’s a missed opportunity.
Choose a perfume, body mist, or scented lotion you absolutely love and wear it before bed.
It’s so comforting to fall asleep smelling like vanilla, lavender, roses, or whatever scent feels most like you.
Your everyday evenings will become luxurious and romantic.
31. Write a letter to your future self
If you’ve got about 30 minutes to spare and a need to connect to yourself, then pen down a letter to your future self.
Tell her what you’re excited about lately, the thoughts keeping you up at night, and what life looks like right now.
Share the little details you think you’ll always remember but probably won’t (like the taste of your current favorite coffee and the book you’re reading).
You can write about your favorite song, your current obsession, and the thing you secretly hope happens next.
Once you’re done, tuck away the letter and pick a date to open it.
It can be a year from now, three years from now, or maybe even five.
This activity will take you into the future while still keeping you strongly grounded in the present. Weird, comforting, and whimsical all at the same time.
Be the person who makes magic happen!
I think the reason so many people are drawn to whimsy right now is that life can feel incredibly serious.
We’re constantly rushing somewhere, working on something, worrying about something, or planning for the future.
But whimsy helps you break free of all that and reminds you to play, notice, and dream. It makes you curious again.
You start collecting beautiful moments simply because they’re beautiful.
So pick one idea from this list and try it this week.
Follow the butterfly, start the treasure box, wear the ribbon, watch the sunrise, and make a pretty cup of coffee.
Because, as should be clear by now, a whimsical life isn’t something you buy or achieve. It’s something you create, one tiny magical moment at a time.
