Here are 10 Gilmore Girls fall ideas that will make your autumn cozy, fun, and heartwarming.

I have several favorite shows, but Gilmore Girls has a special spot in my heart that I doubt will ever be replaced.
For one, it is based in a small town where everybody knows everybody else’s business (whoever came up with the name ‘Stars Hollow’, please give them all the hats in the world).
Secondly, our main characters are obsessed with coffee (that’s how the show opens), and so am I!
But the main reason why this show shines so bright is that it’s the ultimate fall show.
Throughout the 7 seasons, we see endless cups of coffee, pretty cozy sweaters, Friday night dinners, and autumn festivals.
It’s comfort and nostalgia wrapped up in fairy lights and witty banter.
So every year, the day September arrives, I dutifully reach for my annual Gilmore Girls rewatch.
But this year, I am feeling the need to bring the charm of the show to life, hence this post.
Because while Stars Hollow may not exist in real life, we can absolutely borrow some of the magic.
So if you’ve ever wished you could spend a season in Stars Hollow, here are 9 cozy ideas to help you have a Gilmore Girls fall this year.
How To Have a Gilmore Girls Fall
1. Become a regular somewhere
One of my favorite things about Gilmore Girls is how everyone has their place.
Lorelai and Rory have Luke’s. Miss Patty has her dance studio. Taylor practically lives in the town square.
It’s nice to walk into a place and be recognized just because you’ve shown up enough times.
So, this fall, pick one place and become a regular there.
It can be a local caféewhere you order a cappuccino every Sunday morning.
Or it can be a bookstore or a bakery near your house that makes yummy apple pie.
Your version of Stars Hollow might be a coffee shop ten minutes from home, and that’s more than enough.
By November, you’ll have your own Luke’s Diner, and that’s the most Gilmore Girls thing ever.

2. Create a Rory Gilmore reading hour
If Rory Gilmore has taught us anything, it’s that life is significantly better when you always have a book nearby.
And no, you don’t need to read 300 books a year or tackle Russian literature to qualify.
The Gilmore Girls reading aesthetic is less about achievement and more about atmosphere.
Just picture yourself on a rainy afternoon, wrapped in a chunky knit blanket, with a warm drink in hand, and reading a book you’ve been excited about all week.
If that doesn’t sound like happiness and fall, I seriously don’t know what does.
So, this cozy season, do yourself a favor and create a dedicated reading hour.
It can be at the end of your night routine, every Sunday morning, or every evening at 8pm (whatever works for you).
Make reading feel romantic for yourself, and let it be your favorite me-time hour.
And if you’re wondering what to read for your Gilmore Girls fall, here are a few ideas:
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
- The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
- The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
- The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe
“I just take a book with me everywhere. It’s just a habit.”
-Rory Gilmore

3. Have a weekly movie night with snacks
I know you probably already have movie nights in the fall, but you might want to double down on those.
Because if there is one thing Lorelai and Rory excel at besides talking at lightning speed, it’s making their evenings cozy with movie nights.
Make a pile of snacks, get comfortable on your couch, and watch your comfort movies.
You can invite someone over (your mom or best friend) or just enjoy your own company.
Some movie recommendations for your cozy evenings:
- You’ve Got Mail
- When Harry Met Sally
- Little Women
- Practical Magic
- The Parent Trap
- Sleepless in Seattle
- Knives Out
- Dead Poets Society
Also, eating popcorn and drinking hot chocolate at the same time is entirely acceptable during a Gilmore Girls fall (Lorelai would actually insist upon it).

4. Start a cozy morning coffee ritual
One thing that unites the entire Gilmore Girls fandom is coffee.
There has never been a woman more committed to caffeine than Lorelai. I even think the number of cups consumed over seven seasons should be studied.
And while I cannot, in good conscience, recommend drinking coffee at Lorelai levels, I do think she was onto something.
Your mornings just feel better when they begin with coffee. And if you turn it into a ritual, you get a perfect fall morning habit.
Wake up before the rest of the house, put on a soft cardigan, make your coffee, and sit by the window while reading or journaling.
Your morning coffee hour should feel slow, soft, and pleasant.
There can be no better way to begin your fall mornings.
“Everything in my life has to do with coffee. I believe in a former life, I was coffee.”
-Lorelai Gilmore

5. Visit an antique or thrift shop
One of the famous spots in Stars Hollow is Mrs. Kim’s antique shop. We see it in the very first episode and many times throughout the series.
It’s a place filled with old lamps, mismatched furniture, and treasures waiting to be discovered. Very fitting for fall, if you ask me.
That’s why I recommend visiting an antique or thrift store near you.
Go with curiosity, and buy whatever calls out to you.
You might find a vintage mug, an old hardcover book, a cozy oversized cardigan, a brass candle holder, a picture frame for your desk, a plaid scarf, or a pretty teapot.
I know vintage items can be pricey.
But thrift shopping is practical, sustainable, and surprisingly good for finding winter clothes that can otherwise be expensive.
So grab a tote bag, put on your favorite fall playlist, and spend an afternoon wandering through aisles of forgotten treasures.
At the very least, you’ll come home with a story. And at best, you’ll come home with a cozy sweater that cost you just five dollars.
Both are wins in my book.
6. Walk everywhere
Everyone in Stars Hollow always walks everywhere.
If they need coffee, they walk. If they need groceries, they walk. And if they need to process their feelings, they walk.
Not only is it a beautiful fall activity, but it is also very good for your mind and body.
So, make walking part of your personality for a few months.
Take your morning walk with a podcast, and take an evening walk while listening to your favorite fall playlist.
Walk to buy flowers, walk to get coffee, and walk just because the weather is nice.
And while you’re walking, pretend you’re the main character (I firmly believe this is essential).
You can dress a little pretty, stay in tune with your surroundings, and smile at the pretty things you spot around.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll come back from your walk with the next day’s walk already planned in your mind.

7. Build a fall wardrobe Lorelai would approve of
The internet would have us believe that achieving a fall aesthetic requires approximately fourteen sweaters, seven pairs of boots, and an expensive wool coat.
But a Gilmore Girls fall wardrobe is less about quantity and more about feeling cozy.
You basically want to shop for clothes that make you want to visit a bookstore and order a cinnamon latte.
This year, instead of buying a dozen trendy pieces you’ll forget about by January, create a small Gilmore Girls capsule wardrobe.
My personal recommendations:
- One cardigan that feels like a hug.
- One oversized sweater.
- A pair of comfortable boots.
- A neutral scarf.
- Pajamas you genuinely love wearing.
You can also lean into your current wardrobe and wear your best pieces more often.
That sweater you’ve worn a hundred times because it’s soft and fuzzy? Very Gilmore Girls.
The scarf your mom bought you years ago? Also very Gilmore Girls.
And your favorite hoodie that has seen better days? Lorelai would absolutely approve.
The best fall wardrobes look lived in, anyway.

8. Listen to new music and make it an experience
The way music exists in Gilmore Girls is very magical. It isn’t just background noise. It’s a hobby for people.
Rory’s best friend, Lane, collects CDs and is obsessed with bands. People sit around discussing albums the same way we now discuss TikTok trends.
I’ve been in that era myself when I was in school, and I miss that.
These days, we have access to music with just one click, and many other digital activities are also taking our attention.
We’ve stopped experiencing music and started consuming it.
But this fall, channel your inner Lane Kim energy.
Pick an album and listen to it from beginning to end, ask your friends for music recommendations, and create a “Gilmore Girls Fall” playlist.
Visit a record store if you have one nearby, and listen to music while doing chores.
You don’t have to listen exclusively to 2000s music, either (but you sure can try if you want to).
Just reconnect with music as an experience and use it to romanticize your fall routine.

9. Host your own Stars Hollow gathering
If you’ve watched even three episodes of Gilmore Girls, you’d know that Stars Hollow treats community events like an Olympic sport.
There are dance marathons, basket auctions, harvest festivals, and town meetings. It’s also lovely how the people show up for one another.
In real life, it’s way too easy to become isolated. We text instead of calling and react to Insta stories instead of making memories together.
But I’ve got a challenge for you this fall: Host your own Stars Hollow event.
You don’t need to invite twenty guests or decorate your house perfectly. You just need people you enjoy spending time with.
You can host a:
- Gilmore Girls watch party
- Fall potluck dinner
- Pumpkin painting night
- Book club meeting
- Hot chocolate bar evening
- ‘Bring your favorite dessert’ party
- Board game night
- Cozy brunch with friends
Put on a fall playlist, light a few candles, serve snacks, and let people linger and mingle.
And if anyone shows up wearing a cardigan and carrying a pie, you’ve officially won autumn.
10. Decorate your home for fall
If there is one thing Gilmore Girls absolutely nailed, it’s fall decor.
Every scene has pumpkins in the background. There are leaves everywhere, the gazebo is decorated, and the town square looks magical.
It’s impossible to watch the show without immediately wanting to scatter tiny pumpkins around your house.
So this fall, take a page out of Stars Hollow’s decorating handbook and decorate your home in a fall theme.
A few ideas:
- Put mini pumpkins on your coffee table.
- Add a bowl of pinecones to your entryway.
- Place faux autumn leaves on shelves.
- Swap out your pillow covers for warmer tones.
- Put candles around the house.
- Add fairy lights to your bedroom.
- Display a stack of your favorite books.
- Keep a cozy blanket draped over the couch.
