13 Things To Do In September
1. Start A New Morning Routine
It’s unrealistic, and a tad boring, to expect yourself to carry on with the same morning routine the entire year.
Start a fall morning routine in September to make your days more season-oriented.
Keep your healthy morning habits, like drinking water after waking up, but make adjustments to them, like drinking your water warm.
Embrace the cooler mornings with a warm cup of coffee, a happy walk outdoors, and taking time with your breakfast.
To make it more fun, add fall-themed elements like lighting a pumpkin-scented candle or listening to an autumn playlist to set the mood for your day.
You might also enjoy adding a few minutes of morning journaling to reflect on your goals for the new season, or a short meditation session to start the day with a clear mind.
2. Make A Bucket List For The Season
You might have some great ideas in your head regarding fall — activities you want to do, and places you want to visit — but you might not act upon them unless you have them out regarding.
Well, that’s what a bucket list is for. With September being the first month of fall, it’s the right time to create your autumn bucket list.
Start by adding classic fall ideas like apple picking, visiting a pumpkin patch, and having a cozy movie marathon.
Then pick some other ideas like hosting a fall-themed party, baking a pie from scratch, or going on a scenic drive to see the fall foliage.
Having a list of fun and festive things to look forward to can make the season even more enjoyable!
3. Read A Classic Novel
You don’t have to go hard into reading in September. There’ll be plenty of time to do that in the coming chilly months.
But do make time for a classic novel of your choice.
The cozy onset of fall makes it the perfect for diving into classic novels.
I’m talking about books like Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, and Anne Of Green Gables.
Books like these will give you a timeless feel, which is what autumn feels like.
Go for books instead of e-readers, because holding a book in your hands is what makes fall reading worth it.
Before sitting down to read, create a cozy setup first by pulling out a blanket, making yourself some tea, and turning on a warm lamp.
4. Finish A Crocheting Or Knitting Project
If you’ve got a half-finished scarf or blanket lying around, now’s the time to pick it up again.
The cool evenings are perfect for cozying up with your yarn and needles.
Plus, you’ll have a lovely handmade item to keep you warm as the temperatures drop.
If you don’t already have a project in progress, start a new one, like a chunky knit sweater or a cozy hat.
There are many simple online tutorials that you can follow as a beginning.
This fall hobby will help you bring out your creative side and teach you to be more patient with yourself.
5. Start Watching Gilmore Girls
September is the right time to start binge-watching “Gilmore Girls” and finish it before the end of fall.
The cozy vibes and autumnal setting of this show will get you in the perfect mood for fall.
I’ve already seen it twice, both times in the fall, and am looking forward to my third re-run this fall.
It’s always fun watching Lorelai and Rory navigate life in the charming town of Stars Hollow.
You’ll feel like you’re living in the small-town right with them, which is a nice headspace to be in during autumn.
6. Decorate Your Home for Fall
Get your home ready for the season by adding some fall decor.
A few simple touches can transform your space and make it feel warm and inviting.
Add some decorations pumpkins, autumn leaves, cozy blankets, and warm lighting to your house.
Create a fall centerpiece for your dining table with a mix of pumpkins, gourds, and candles.

7. Make Your Own Scented Candles
Fall is all about warm and inviting scents. This fall, instead of buying candles from brands, try making your own.
You can find a candle-making kit online or at craft stores, which include everything you need from wax to wicks and scents.
Pick fragrances like cinnamon, apple, and pumpkin spice. Also, experiment with layering scents to create a unique aroma.
You can personalize your candles by choosing unique containers such as vintage teacups or mason jars.
Once you are good at making candles, you can gift them to others too.
This project is perfect for a rainy day in September or a cozy weekend afternoon.
8. Start A Journal
I often hear people saying journaling isn’t for them because they are not much of a writer. But I don’t think you need to love writing to love journaling.
It’s an activity that your mind needs more than you may realize. Journaling helps you slow down and appreciate the little moments in life.
You learn to recognize the important signs the universe is sending your way and go with the natural flow of life, while still holding command over things that you can control.
Since September is a season of reflection and change, you should start journaling right about now instead of waiting for the new year.
By the time the year ends, you’d have turned it into a solid habit. Write about your rampant thoughts, process your emotions, and track your goals for the season.
And don’t just stick to one proper format of journaling. What makes journaling truly freeing is, well, being free with it.
Make doodles, write down your favorite quotes, and paste lovely pictures of your fall outing to properly embrace the season’s spirit.
9. Explore A New Hiking Trail Or A Park
The weather of September is a catnip for outdoor enthusiasts, and even those who don’t prefer moving their body find themselves tying their shoelaces.
Challenge yourself to do a hike at this time by hitting a new trail or a park you’ve never been to before.
Bring along a backpack with water, snacks, and a map or GPS. Wear sturdy hiking boots and dress in layers to stay comfortable.
Explore the area properly on foot, take pictures, and enjoy the crisp air and beautiful scenery.
And don’t forget to journal your experience once you’re back home and have had a shower.
It’ll solidify your memories and give you words in writing to look back on.
10. Make A Fall Playlist
Create a playlist with songs that give you all the fall feels.
Think cozy, acoustic tunes, or your favorite nostalgic tracks. Also include a mix of genres and artists that evoke the cozy and reflective mood of fall.
You can share your playlist with friends and family, or even create a collaborative playlist where everyone adds their favorite fall songs.
Listen to your fall playlist while you’re working, relaxing at home, or driving somewhere.
Enjoying music tailored to the season will enhance your daily activities and make even mundane tasks feel special.
For me, it’s the best way to romanticize a season.
11. Try Bird-Watching
September can be a fascinating month for bird-watching. This is because birds start migrating for winter around this time.
I know this might sound too fancy or even boring, but it’s a very meditative activity to take part in.
Once you start spotting birds, you’ll find yourself being drawn into their movements and even learning from them.
I am living in the countryside nowadays and have become so attentive to nature that spotting a bird makes my heart flutter with joy.
For a proper birdwatching experience, pack a small backpack with essentials like water, snacks, binoculars, and a notebook for jotting down your observations.
You can also bring along a bird guidebook or use a bird identification app to help you recognize different species.
Now go to a local park or a scenic spot and watch the birds around you, even the ones that you spot frequently in your neighborhood.
You’ll find yourself connecting to nature on a level you never have before.
There couldn’t be a better way to say hello to fall.
12. Try Out Fall Flavors At A Coffee Shop
Many coffee shops offer seasonal drinks and treats during the fall season.
Go to a cafe that offers a range of fall drinks and order something like a pumpkin spice latte, apple cider, or caramel-flavored coffee.
Grab a cozy spot by the window and enjoy your drink while watching the leaves.
If they have fall-themed treats like pumpkin muffins or apple turnovers, then order one of those too.
Read a book or write in a journal while savoring your drink and enjoying the warm ambiance.
You can also make it a mini adventure by exploring different coffee shops in your area and discovering new favorite spots.
If a friend is interested in joining, bring them along. The more, the merrier!
13. Create A Fall Capsule Wardrobe
A capsule wardrobe consists of pieces that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of outfits.
It’s a solid way to avoid situations when you find yourself screaming ‘I have nothing to wear!’.
Start by choosing a color palette that reflects the fall season; earthy tones like burgundy, mustard, olive green, and burnt orange are perfect for autumn.
Now, buy cozy sweaters, classic jeans, jackets, and comfortable boots.
Focus on quality over quantity, opting for around 10-20 pieces that you can mix and match effortlessly. This range might vary depending on your budget.
Don’t forget to include accessories like scarves, hats, and jewelry to add a classy touch to your outfits.
Spend a September weekend curating your fall wardrobe, and enjoy the simplicity and style it brings to your season!
