Here are 13 good habits you should start in new year to make 2025 a game-changing year in your life.
There’s no denying that New Year’s resolutions can be overrated.
Of course, that never stops me from setting some for myself at the start of the year. They make the start of the new year more thrilling.
But what makes a year good isn’t the resolutions you set, it’s the habits you adopt and stick with for as long as they serve you well.
To quote Buddha, “A jug fills drop by drop.”
Your habits are the drops to the jug that is your life, so you should work on them with all your heart and soul, especially at the beginning of the year when your motivation is running high.
In this post, we’ll look at 13 habits to start in new year to make a real difference to your life in 2025.
Let’s get right into it!
13 Habits You Should Start In 2025
1. Do A Morning Stretch Routine
Just ten minutes of stretching every morning can make a big difference in how you feel at the start of the day.
Focus on simple moves like touching your toes, gentle twists, or child’s pose to loosen up your body.
You can also hit up a YouTube morning workout and follow along, which is what I like to do.
This habit is a great replacement for scrolling your phone first thing in the morning.
It’ll wake your body with love and ground your mind to the present. No better way to start the day, if you ask me.
2. Set A Monthly Micro-Goal
Big goals are definitely important, I won’t deny that, but they can be really intimidating too.
That’s why they are best tackled when broken down into small digestible bites.
In 2025, I want you to work on a micro goal every month that will bring you close to achieving your biggest goal for the year.
If you want to get fitter, for instance, then set a goal to work out for at least 20 minutes every day in January.
The next month, set a goal to walk 5k steps a day while keeping up with your workouts.
In March, you can aim to work out 30 minutes for 5 days a week.
See what I mean? This process will make chasing your biggest goal into a fun game and make every month feel like a mini new year.
3. Work On A Reverse Bucket List
Instead of focusing on what you haven’t done yet, start keeping track of the amazing things you have accomplished.
At the end of every month, write down the milestones you crossed, the moments that made you smile, and all the small and big challenges that you overcame.
By the end of the year, you’ll have long a list of achievements to look back on that will make you feel unstoppable.
This is what you call a reverse bucket list. Pretty cool, isn’t it?
4. Have A Weekly Reset Hour
Life gets messy and disorganized really quick. That’s why it’s important to give yourself regular resets.
Spare at least one hour each week to get your act together.
Use this hour to tidy up, sort your schedule, and also reflect on what’s working and what’s not.
Making it enjoyable and romanticizing helps! Play some music, light a candle, and sip on coffee while you work.
I’d also suggest slapping on a hydrating face mask or any other self-care ritual, because that’s also an important part of a reset day. Your mind needs a reset just as much as your outer space does.
It’s a great way to hit pause, regroup, and start the next week feeling a little more in control of your life.
5. Cook A New Recipe Every Week
Forget the same-old meals and once a week, pick a recipe you’ve never tried before and give it a go.
It could be something totally different, like a spicy curry, or just a new recipe of your usual dinner.
It could also be an exotic dish you’ve always wanted to taste or a TikTok food trend that caught your eye.
It’s a fun way to spice things up in the kitchen and maybe discover your new favorite dish.
6. Do A 3-Minute Meditation
Meditation doesn’t mean sitting in silence for an hour. Just three minutes of meditation a day can make a huge difference to how you feel in your own mind.
I did 10 minutes of meditation for 75 days straight, and it’s the best habit I’ve ever worked on.
In 2025, I am setting an intention to meditate for 3 minutes every day till the end of the year, and you can join me if you’d like.
You can turn to apps like Headspace or Calm, or simply close your eyes, breathe deeply, and focus on the moment.
YouTube also has some good guided meditation.
You’ll be amazed at how quickly this micro habit will change your life, and also support the rest of your habits by giving you strength and resilience.
7. Prep Your Snacks Ahead of Time
Instead of reaching for chips or cookies, spend 10 minutes prepping some healthy snacks for the week.
Slice up veggies, portion out nuts, or make energy bites. Do this every other day if you have to.
Having something ready to grab makes it easier to choose the good stuff when hunger strikes.
This little habit will make you more interested in what you’re eating and also make healthy eating more in your control rather than something you struggle with.
A good addition for those who have fitness at the centre of their mind in 2025.
8. Spend Time In A Happy Corner
Do you have a happy corner in your home? If not, then find a corner and make it yours.
Add a cozy chair, some fairy lights, your favorite books, and maybe a small green plant.
Use it as your chill zone for reading, journaling, and scrolling through your phone in peace.
Having a space that feels like a mini-escape can do wonders for your mood.
No matter how bad a day you’ve had, the moment you sit down in your happy space, all will be great in your small world again.
9. Fill Up A Gratitude Jar
Instead of writing in a journal, grab a jar and drop in one note a week about something you’re grateful for.
It can be something big, like getting a promotion, or something small, like your favorite snack being on sale.
At the end of the year, you’ll have a jar full of happy memories to look back on when you need a pick-me-up.

10. Do A Quarterly Check-In
Every three months, take a little time to sit down and ask yourself how things are going.
What’s working? What’s stressing you out? What needs to change?
Make use of your journal to ruminate over questions like these.
Go through your finances, check in on yourself mentally, and assess your physical health to see whether any change is needed.
Make adjustments to your goals and lifestyle accordingly.
This habit will help you reset your goals and routines so that you can keep moving forward without feeling stuck.
11. Host Casual Dinners
Life can be super busy at times, and that can make it easy to neglect our precious relationships.
To pour into your social life in the coming year, you might need a habit that involves other people. Nothing better than hosting a dinner!
Once a month, invite some friends and family over for dinner at your house.
You can keep it low-key by having a pizza night or put in some effort by setting up a taco bar, whatever you’re in the mood for.
Spend time with your people, catch up with them, and enjoy good food with good company.
It’s about spending time together, catching up, and enjoying good food with good company.
12. Indulge In A Hobby
Hobbies are something that we should be indulging in at every stage of life.
They remind us of what matters the most in life — joy, happiness, and living in the moment.
If you don’t already have a hobby that you practice regularly, then make it a habit to do so in 2025.
Pick a hobby that you’ve always been curious about, like painting, photography, crocheting, or making your own candles!
You don’t have to be great at it. Just enjoy the process, be a kid about it, and use it as a chance to connect to yourself.
13. Plan A Me-Day Every Month
One thing I realized this last year is that spending time with yourself matters.
If you don’t talk to a friend for a long time, you kind of lose the connection you have with them, right?
But when you keep pouring into a relationship, your bond grows and gets stronger.
Your relationship with yourself is just like this.
You need quality me-time to stay in touch with yourself and to be able to give yourself what is needed every step of the way.
It will also help you be your own best friend, which is a superpower in today’s world.
This year, make it a solid intention to have a me-day every month of the year.
Once a month, block off a day where you do whatever makes you happy—watching movies, hitting the spa, going for a long drive, or just staying in bed with snacks.
Your soul will love and thank you for this, trust me.
