Check out these 15 witchy self-care ideas to practice wellness like a modern-day witch, and make your life more magical, cozy, and enchanting.

I just finished my fifth rewatch of The Vampire Diaries, and witches are the hands-down coolest magical creatures in the show for me.
When I watched the show for the first time as a teen, I actually tried becoming a witch, and failed spectacularly. I don’t have the right genes for it, apparently.
But the grown-up me is more aware, and so I know the witchy self-care aesthetic is a real thing. And thankfully, we don’t need to be born into a witch family to embrace it.
Witchy self-care is simply about connecting with nature, creating comforting rituals, paying attention to your inner world, and making your ordinary habits more special.
And since we’re heading toward the coziest months of the year, I can’t think of a better time to embrace this energy.
Here are 15 witchy self-care ideas to relax, recharge, and add some magic to your everyday life.
15 Fun Witchy Self-Care Ideas You’ll Love Trying
1. Keep a collection of herbal teas
If there is one drink that has major witchy vibes, it has to be herbal tea.
You should keep a few different flavors in your pantry so that you can pick one according to your mood.
Chamomile can be your bedtime tea, peppermint is lovely when you want something refreshing, and cinnamon or apple teas are perfect for cozy evenings.
You can even get yourself a wooden tea box to keep your collection in!
Make a cup of herbal tea whenever you need a break, and sip it slowly instead of drinking it while scrolling through your phone.
It’s basically a self-care potion, minus the suspicious bubbling cauldron.
2. Have a candlelight-only evening

For a proper witchy night at home, turn off your bright lights and spend the evening by candlelight.
You obviously don’t have to sit in complete darkness like you’ve been transported to the 1700s.
Keep whatever lights you need for safety, but let candles and warm lamps do most of the work.
Make yourself dinner, take a shower, read a mystery or fantasy book, journal, and have your evening tea in the cozy lighting.
It’s a simple way to romanticize a regular evening, especially during fall and winter when it gets dark really early.
3. Take moonlight walks
I love my daytime walks, but there is something so very special about stepping outside after the sun has gone down.
The streets are quieter, the sky looks enchanting with all those stars, the air is cooler, and even places you’ve walked through a hundred times can look new under the moonlight.
So, on nights when the weather is nice, take a short walk after dinner and leave your headphones at home.
Look at the moon, notice the trees and glowing windows around you, and let yourself enjoy the quiet.
If you’re lucky enough to go out on a full moon night, you’ll be in for a magical time.
Just make sure you’re walking somewhere safe and familiar, and enjoy pretending you’re the mysterious woman people occasionally spot wandering around town after dark.
4. Practice tarot or oracle cards for guidance

I never thought I’d be into tarot, but I bought my first deck last, and it’s been so, so helpful. It’s quickly become a cherished part of my self-care routine.
Some people think you need to be really into astrology to be able to use a tarot deck.
I didn’t put that pressure on myself before buying my deck, and I am just letting the illustrations guide me and making my own interpretations.
Tarot can just be a way to slow down, ask yourself a question, and see what thoughts come up while you’re looking at the card you pulled.
You can do a one-card pull in the morning and ask what you should focus on that day. Or just use the cards when you’re feeling stuck and want some perspective.
Even if you mostly use them as a journaling prompt, it feels very magical to shuffle a deck and see what comes up, like being guided by The Universe itself.
5. Create a cozy self-care shelf

You can pick a shelf for this, or just go for a big tray or a corner of your desk. Then, fill it with things for your self-care routine.
You can keep your candles, teas, journal, perfumes, favorite books, essential oils, or any other treasures you love here.
I’d strongly suggest adding a little plant or dried flowers, too (for a touch of nature). And oh, yes, fairy lights would make it perfect.
When you’ll be making your chamomile tea before bed, you’ll feel like you’re choosing tonight’s potion, which is way more fun and witchy.
6. Grow your own herbs
Every witchy girl deserves a tiny herb garden. Thankfully, we do not need a backyard or serious gardening skills for this (which I do not possess).
Just pick two or three herbs that you actually use and grow them in pots near a sunny window.
Mint, basil, rosemary, and thyme are good herbs to start with.
Taking care of plants is a lovely self-care activity on its own, but you’ll also get to casually snip fresh herbs while cooking or making drinks.
It is so satisfying to use something you grew yourself. Your meals will taste better, mark my words.
Your kitchen will look prettier too, so there really is no downside to this plan.
7. Start a book of magic

I will take any excuse to start a new notebook, and a personal book of magic is a pretty good one.
You are going to need a notebook that looks slightly mysterious. Once you find it, use it to collect all the lovely things that make your life better.
You can write down your favorite tea recipes, quotes, dreams, affirmations, self-care rituals, seasonal traditions, poems, intentions, and the things you’ve learned about yourself.
Also, stick dried flowers between the pages or doodle around your entries if that’s your thing.
You’ll be creating a book filled with your own version of magic.
And unlike the five pretty notebooks sitting empty in your drawer, this one will finally have a purpose.
8. Make a simmer pot
Scented candles are lovely, but simmer pots are a much more witchy way to make your house smell amazing.
Fill a pot with water and throw in whatever fragrant ingredients you have around.
You can use orange slices, apple peels, cinnamon sticks, cloves, rosemary, or a splash of vanilla.
Let everything simmer on low heat while you’re hanging around the house, adding more water whenever needed and never leaving the stove unattended.
I really love this idea for gloomy fall afternoons when you’re cleaning, reading, or having a cozy day indoors.
You’ll have a pot of mysterious-looking ingredients bubbling away in the kitchen and your house smelling like autumn. A totally witchy win.
9. Do a full moon reset

I don’t know enough about astrology to tell you what you should be doing every time the moon changes shape, but I do love the idea of having a full moon reset ritual.
Once a month, use the full moon as your reminder to slow down, refresh your space, and check in with yourself.
Start by cleaning your room a bit. Rather than thinking of it as organizing, look at it as cleansing the energy of your space.
You might want to change the bedsheets, dust your desk and shelves, tuck away stray items, and arrange the part of your wardrobe that you use the most.
Then, take an everything shower and sit down with your journal for some kind of reflection.
Think about what has been taking up your energy lately and what you’d like to focus on moving forward.
You can also make yourself a warm drink and sit outside or near your window for a few minutes to look at the moon.
Whether you believe in lunar energy or not, a monthly evening dedicated to yourself sounds pretty good to me.
10. Make a protection ritual for your peace
A protection ritual is something you do when other people’s energy has been getting too loud in your head.
Here are some more ideas you can try:
- Light a candle when you get home and imagine yourself leaving the day’s stress behind as you settle in.
- Take a cleansing shower and imagine everything heavy from the day washing away with the water.
- Burn incense or your favorite herbs and slowly walk around your room while opening the windows.
- Keep a small protective object by your door, such as a crystal or charm.
- Create a tiny end-of-day phrase such as, “What isn’t mine to carry stays outside.” Say it whenever you come home after a draining day.
Once you’re done with the ritual, let the evening belong to you again.
Protecting your peace is perhaps the most useful magic of all, and every person should know how to do it.
11. Collect things from nature

Oh, I love this one, because it’s a perfect self-care idea for bringing yourself closer to nature and being more in tune with your surroundings when outdoors, which is major witchcore energy.
Whenever you go out for a walk, pay attention to all the things you’d normally pass without noticing.
Look for pretty fallen leaves, pinecones, unusual stones, twigs, acorns, or flowers that have already fallen to the ground.
You don’t need to come home carrying half the forest. Pick one or two things that catch your eye and find a place for them in your room.
You can press leaves inside your journal, keep stones on your desk, or make a seasonal nature tray or shelf.
It’s a fun way to feel more connected to the season you’re living in, and also harness your witch energy.
12. Write down what you want to release and burn it safely
This one is for dramatic witches like myself.
When you have something heavy that you’ve been thinking about way more than it deserves, write it down.
It could be a mistake you keep replaying, something mean somebody said, an old grudge, a fear, or a bad habit you’re trying to leave behind.
Once you’ve written everything you need to say, tear the paper into tiny pieces and throw it away.
If you want the full witchy experience, you can safely burn it in an appropriate fire-safe setup instead.
Of course, your problem isn’t going to disappear in a puff of smoke, but sometimes your brain needs a physical way to say, “Okay, we’re done with this now.”
It’s like physically deciding you are not going to give space to the thought anymore, and that can be pretty powerful.
13. Keep a dream journal

Dreams are weird, and definitely a big mystery.
One night you’re having coffee with your favorite celebrity and the next you’re being chased through your childhood school by a dinosaur for reasons your brain refuses to explain.
If you’d like to understand dreams better, then this is for you.
Keep a small notebook beside your bed and start writing down whatever you remember when you wake up.
You don’t have to analyze every dream or turn it into something deep (unless you want to).
It’d just be interesting to keep a record of the strange places your mind visits while you’re asleep.
You might start noticing recurring places, people, or themes over time, and even if you don’t, you’ll end up with some pretty entertaining morning reads.
14. Have a no-phone twilight hour
Once a week (or as often as you feel the need for it), put away your phone and disappear from the Internet as the sun starts going down.
Switch on your warm lamps, make something cozy to drink, and spend the next hour doing quiet things.
You can read, journal, knit, draw, water your plants, sit by the window, and listen to an album from start to finish.
Twilight already has this strange in-between feeling to it, so it’s the perfect time to come back to yourself after being available to the entire world all day.
15. Pick a personal talisman

A talisman is basically an object that you give a special meaning to, and I think having one can be a lovely form of self-care.
You’d want something small for this that you can keep close to you.
It could be a ring, necklace, brooch, stone, charm, keychain, or an old coin that you like.
The object doesn’t need to possess magical powers for the ritual to work. You will give it meaning by deciding what you want it to represent.
Maybe your ring reminds you to trust yourself, or a charm in your bag reminds you to stay hopeful when life gets messy.
Whenever you see or touch it, let it remind you of the intention you attached to it.
I think we can all use one such talisman that can remind us of who we want to be.
Make Your Self-Care Magical and Enchanting!
Self-care doesn’t always have to be a serious routine designed to turn you into your healthiest and most productive self.
It can be playful, magical, and witchy, too.
You can make tea, collect leaves, write down your dreams, grow herbs on your windowsill, and spend your evenings reading books beside a candle.
If adding some witchy energy makes you more excited to take care of yourself, then I say go all in.
There is enough boring stuff in life already. Your self-care routine doesn’t need to be one of them.
