Here are 31 new year goals that may be out of the box, but they will make 2027 more amazing for you.

Every new year, we sit down with a new journal, open a fresh page, and start writing down the things we want to achieve.
And somehow, the same goals make their way onto our lists every single time, like:
- Lose weight.
- Save money.
- Read ‘X’ number of books.
- Wake up earlier.
- Hit the gym five times a week
Don’t get me wrong, please. These are all wonderful goals to have, and if they’re on your list for 2027, I am rooting for you.
But I really think we need to start having more fun with our new year goals.
I mean, we’re getting an entire year of our lives to play with here.
That’s 365 days to have new experiences, discover things about ourselves, build beautiful relationships, pick up interesting hobbies, and create memories that we’ll be talking about for years.
Surely, we can dream beyond having a morning routine and drinking eight glasses of water every day?
For 2027, I want you to consider building a life you’d really enjoy waking up to.
And to help you get started, I’ve put together 31 New Year’s goal ideas that are fun, refreshing, and worth looking forward to.
Some of these goals will help you grow, some will make your everyday life better, and others are here simply because life should be exciting.
Grab your favorite notebook, make yourself a good cup of coffee, and let’s give you some amazing things to look forward to in 2027!
31 New Year Goal Ideas For 2027
1. Have 12 new experiences in 12 months
Let’s start with a goal that could make 2027 one of the most memorable years of your life.
Every month, do something you’ve never done before.
It could be attending a pottery workshop in January, going horseback riding in February, watching a ballet in March, or spending a night camping under the stars in April.
The experience doesn’t have to be expensive or extraordinary.
You just need to step outside your usual routine and give yourself something new to look forward to.
By the end of the year, you’ll have 12 new stories to tell, and perhaps even discover a hobby or interest that becomes a permanent part of your life.

2. Become a regular somewhere
I love the idea of having a place outside your home where people recognize you, and you feel like you belong.
So, pick a place you love and make a habit of visiting it throughout the year.
It could be a coffee shop where the barista eventually remembers your order, a bookstore, a neighborhood bakery, or a library with your favorite reading spot.
Get to know the people who work there, notice the familiar faces, and enjoy having your own spot in the world.
It’s a really lovely way to build a sense of community, especially if you spend most of your time at home.

3. Create a personal tradition for every season
We already have plenty of holidays and festivals to look forward to, but who says we can’t invent some celebrations of our own?
Make 2027 the year you start four personal traditions, one for every season.
You could do:
- A spring picnic with fresh flowers and homemade sandwiches
- A summer movie marathon with your friends, a fall baking day
- A winter breakfast party where everyone shows up in pajamas.
The best part about traditions is that they become more special with every passing year.
Start them now, and imagine how wonderful it’ll be to look back a decade later and realize you’ve been doing these things all along.

4. Learn an impractical skill
We’ve become so obsessed with being productive that we’ve forgotten how fun it is to learn something for no reason.
So, here’s a new year goal I want you to consider: Learn a skill that has nothing to do with your career, income, or self-improvement.
Learn Morse code, figure out how to identify constellations, try calligraphy, memorize a few magic tricks, or learn how to solve a Rubik’s Cube.
You could even learn how to read palms or play chess.
Give yourself permission to be a curious human being who learns things simply because they’re interesting.
5. Make your home a place you love spending time in
Instead of making another goal to keep your home clean and organized, how about making it a place you’re excited to return to?
Spend the year creating a home that feels like an extension of your personality.
You could set up a cozy reading corner, hang artwork that makes you happy, create a coffee station, grow herbs on your windowsill, or finally replace those bedsheets you’ve never liked.
Don’t wait until you have your dream house to do any of this.
Whether you’re living in a rented apartment, sharing a room, or staying with your parents, you deserve a space that feels good to be in.

6. Take yourself on 12 solo dates
If you’ve never taken yourself on a proper solo date, then this year you’re going to get started.
Once a month, plan an outing that’s just for you.
Go watch a movie alone, visit an art gallery, spend an afternoon browsing a bookstore, take yourself out for a fancy breakfast, or buy a ticket to something you’ve always wanted to see.
Dress up if you feel like it, put your phone away, and enjoy your own company.
Being able to have a wonderful time by yourself is one of the best gifts you can give yourself.
You might end up loving these solo dates so much that you start looking forward to them more than your regular plans.

7. Become the person who brings people together
You know those people who always have something fun planned and somehow manage to get everyone together?
Be that person in 2027.
Start inviting your friends over for game nights, Sunday brunches, themed dinners, movie marathons, and random Friday evening hangouts.
We often hesitate to do these things because we don’t have a big house, expensive decorations, or impressive cooking skills. But these don’t make you a good host.
Ordering pizza, putting on a great playlist, and bringing everyone into the same room is more than enough.
Make it your goal to host at least six gatherings this year. Your social life will thank you.

8. Build a wardrobe that feels like you
Instead of making a vague goal to dress better, spend this year figuring out what your personal style really looks like.
Start by creating a Pinterest board of outfits you’d love to wear in real life. Notice the colors, silhouettes, fabrics, and accessories you keep gravitating toward.
Then, take a good look at your existing wardrobe and figure out what’s missing.
Maybe you want to become a dresses-and-boots person, experiment with vintage fashion, or stop buying clothes that look good on other people but never feel right on you.
I am not asking you to buy a whole new wardrobe here.
But whatever you do buy this year to wear, make sure it makes you excited to put it on, even if you’re buying clothes for everyday wear.

9. Make one new friend outside your usual circle
As adults, making new friends can feel so very difficult, especially when our routines revolve around the same places and people (story of my life).
But imagine ending 2027 with a wonderful new friendship that didn’t exist at the beginning of the year. Sounds good, right?
For this, you’ll need to put yourself in situations where you can meet people naturally.
Join a book club, attend a recurring workshop, sign up for a fitness class, volunteer somewhere, or reconnect with someone you’ve always wanted to know better.
And when you meet someone you click with, take the initiative to suggest coffee or another meetup.
Good friendships rarely happen without someone making the first move.

10. Have a monthly money date
I know financial goals aren’t usually the most exciting part of a new year goals list, but this list won’t be complete without it.
But since joy is the main fuel of this post, we are going to sprinkle that in our money planning too.
Once a month, make your favorite drink, put on some music, and sit down for a money date with yourself.
Review your spending, check your savings, pay attention to your subscriptions, and decide what you want your money to do for you in the coming month.
You could even create separate savings funds for travel, books, experiences, and other things that make you happy.
This will help you be more comfortable and intentional with your finances without turning every purchase into a guilt trip.
11. Get to know your city better
How much of your own city have you really explored?
I’m willing to bet there are museums you’ve never visited, streets you’ve never walked down, cafes you’ve never tried, and beautiful places you’ve been meaning to see for years.
Make 2027 the year you finally explore the unvisited corners of your town.
Create a list of 20 interesting places in your city and visit them throughout the year.
Take public transport, go on heritage walks, visit local markets, and spend afternoons in independent bookstores.
You don’t always need a plane ticket to have an adventure. You can find just by stepping out your door more and going places you have access to.

12. Create a personal recipe book
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have your own collection of recipes that you’ve perfected over the years? Start building one in 2027.
Get a beautiful notebook and fill it with recipes you love making and eating.
Learn to make a really good pasta sauce, perfect your favorite soup, bake bread from scratch, experiment with homemade salad dressings, and figure out a dessert you can bring to gatherings.
Write down your adjustments, cooking tips, and little discoveries as you go.
By the end of the year, you’ll have a personal cookbook filled with meals that feel like home.

13. Have one screen-free evening every week
I don’t think we realize how much of our free time disappears into our phones until we deliberately spend an evening without them.
So, for 2027, pick one evening every week to go screen-free.
Read a paperback, play board games with your family, work on a puzzle, take a long bath, paint, journal, or try a new recipe.
You could even sit on your balcony with a warm drink and watch the world go by.
The first few evenings might feel strange, especially if you’re used to having something playing in the background all the time.
But eventually, you might find yourself looking forward to these evenings because they give you uninterrupted time to enjoy your actual life.

14. Start collecting memories instead of things
This year, make a conscious effort to document the moments you want to remember.
Keep movie tickets, postcards, handwritten notes, photographs, pressed flowers, and other small souvenirs from your experiences.
At the end of every month, add them to a memory box or scrapbook along with a short note about what made that month special.
You could also print your favorite photographs instead of leaving them buried in your phone gallery.
Imagine opening this box on New Year’s Eve and finding an entire year of happy memories waiting for you.
That’s the kind of collection I’d love to build.

15. Read books outside your comfort zone
If you’re already a reader, you probably have a few genres you naturally gravitate toward.
And while there’s nothing wrong with sticking to your favorites, I think 2027 could be the perfect year to broaden your reading horizons.
Try a genre you’ve never explored, read a translated novel, pick up a memoir by someone whose life is completely different from yours, or give classic literature another chance.
You could make it a 12-book challenge where every month has a different theme.
And if you don’t enjoy a particular book, move on to something else. Reading should be an adventure, not another chore on your to-do list.

16. Become really good at making one thing
Instead of picking up ten hobbies and abandoning them after a week, choose one thing you’d love to become skilled at.
It could be making pottery, baking cakes, crocheting sweaters, painting landscapes, taking photographs, or growing beautiful plants.
Give yourself an entire year to practice, experiment, make mistakes, and improve.
You don’t need to turn it into a business or share your progress online.
Just enjoy the satisfaction of watching yourself go from being a complete beginner to someone who can proudly say, “I made that.”

17. Plan a trip around an experience
Most of us choose a destination first and then figure out what to do once we get there.
But what if you did the opposite this year?
Choose an experience you’ve always wanted to have and plan a trip around it.
Maybe you want to see cherry blossoms in spring, ride a scenic train through the mountains, attend a literary festival, visit a Christmas market, or stay in a cabin during snowfall.
The trip doesn’t have to be international or expensive. You could plan a weekend getaway around a local festival or a beautiful hiking trail.
Having a specific experience in mind can make the planning process just as exciting as the trip itself.

18. Get comfortable being a beginner
Here’s a goal that could change the way you approach life: Stop expecting yourself to be good at everything you try.
Sign up for a dance class even if you have two left feet. Try painting even if your drawings look ridiculous. Learn a new language and allow yourself to mispronounce words.
The whole point is to do things you’re not naturally good at and enjoy them anyway.
I think so many of us stop trying new things as adults because we’re afraid of looking silly or being bad at something.
But being a beginner is how you discover new interests, build confidence, and remind yourself that there’s still so much you haven’t experienced.

19. Create a lovely new Sunday ritual
Sundays deserve better than being spent worrying about Monday.
This year, create a Sunday ritual that makes the end of your week feel special.
You could start your morning with a long walk and breakfast at your favorite café, visit a flower market, cook a beautiful dinner, or have an afternoon dedicated to reading and baking.
Maybe your ideal Sunday involves fresh bedsheets, a movie, homemade pizza, and an early bedtime.
Whatever you choose, make it something you look forward to all week.
And if your schedule doesn’t allow for a relaxed Sunday, create the same ritual on whichever day works for you.

20. Do one thing every quarter that scares you
Not everything that scares us is worth doing, but sometimes fear is the only thing standing between us and something wonderful.
For 2027, choose four things you’ve been wanting to do but keep putting off because you’re nervous.
It could be starting a YouTube channel, going on your first solo trip, applying for a dream job, attending an event alone, or signing up for a public speaking workshop.
Give yourself three months to prepare for each one and then take the leap.
You don’t have to become fearless. You just need to prove to yourself that being nervous doesn’t automatically mean you shouldn’t try.
21. Build a beautiful relationship with your body
Instead of spending another year criticizing your body or trying to force it into a certain shape, what if you focused on taking really good care of it?
Find movement that makes you happy, whether that’s walking, dancing, swimming, strength training, or cycling.
Eat meals that leave you feeling satisfied and energized. Get enough sleep, stretch when your body feels stiff, and pay attention to what makes you feel good.
You could even make a goal to try six different forms of movement this year and discover which ones you enjoy most.
Let 2027 be the year you treat your body like a lifelong companion rather than a project that constantly needs fixing.

22. Create your own annual celebration
I am a big believer that we don’t need to wait for birthdays, anniversaries, or holidays to celebrate life.
Why not invent an annual celebration of your own?
Pick a date, give it a name, and decide how you’ll celebrate it every year.
You could have an annual friendship dinner, a personal independence day, a midsummer garden party, or a day dedicated to doing all your favorite things.
Make a playlist, decide on a menu, and come up with traditions that belong to this celebration.
It might sound silly at first, but I think life becomes so much more fun when we give ourselves more reasons to celebrate.

23. Make a list of 100 things that make you happy
This is one of my favorite goal ideas because it encourages you to pay attention to the good things already present in your life.
Start a list of 100 things that make you happy and keep adding to it throughout 2027.
Be specific.
Instead of writing “coffee,” write “drinking hot coffee by the window while it’s raining outside.”
Instead of “music,” write down the song that makes you want to dance around your room.
Include favorite places, comforting meals, smells, activities, people, and moments.
By the time you reach 100, you’ll have a personal happiness menu that you can turn to whenever you need some joy.

24. Learn to make five restaurant-worthy meals
Imagine being able to invite people over for dinner and confidently prepare a meal that everyone talks about afterward.
Make that your goal for 2027.
Choose five dishes you’d love to master and spend the year perfecting them.
You could learn to make a creamy mushroom risotto, homemade ramen, fresh pasta, a beautiful roast dinner, or an impressive chocolate dessert.
Watch tutorials, experiment with ingredients, and repeat the recipes until you know exactly how you like them.
Then, host a dinner party and show off your new skills.
And yes, you’re absolutely allowed to enjoy the compliments.

25. Have more meaningful conversations with people you love
It’s surprisingly easy to spend hours with someone and never talk about anything beyond work, errands, and what’s happening on the internet.
This year, make it a goal to have more conversations that help you understand the people in your life.
Ask your parents about their childhood, talk to your grandparents about their favorite memories, find out what your friends are dreaming about, and share stories you haven’t told before.
You could even record family stories or write them down in a notebook.
I think one of the most beautiful things we can do is become more curious about the people we’ve known for years.
There are probably entire chapters of their lives you’ve never heard about.

26. Create a personal magazine about your year
Okay, this one could be SO fun.
Imagine creating your very own magazine, except instead of celebrities and fashion editorials, the subject is your life in 2027.
Fill it with photographs, favorite outfits, books you’ve read, recipes you’ve loved, places you’ve visited, and things you’ve learned.
You could add interviews with your friends, a page dedicated to your current obsessions, and an editorial about what this year has meant to you.
Use Canva to design it or make a physical scrapbook-style magazine with paper, glue, and magazine cutouts.
At the end of the year, you’ll have a beautiful issue of your life that you can keep forever.

27. Give yourself a 30-day creative challenge
I think everyone should have at least one creative project going on in their life, even if they don’t consider themselves artistic.
For this year, choose a month and challenge yourself to create something every day.
Write a haiku, take an interesting photograph, sketch something you see, make a collage, or write a short paragraph about your day.
You could even spend 30 days learning watercolor painting or creating a collection of handmade bookmarks.
The goal is to get your creative muscles working without worrying about whether the finished result is good enough to show anyone.
By the end of the challenge, you’ll have 30 creations and perhaps a new favorite hobby.

28. Make your friendships more adventurous
I love a good coffee date and a long catch-up session, but friendships deserve adventures too.
This year, instead of always meeting your friends at the same places, start planning activities you can experience together.
Go to a trivia night, take a cooking class, plan a picnic, visit an amusement park, try an escape room, or spend a weekend exploring a nearby town.
You could even create a shared bucket list and take turns choosing activities from it.
Having fun experiences together gives you new things to talk about and creates memories beyond your usual conversations.

29. Do something good for your community
One of the most fulfilling goals you can set for yourself is to make life better for the people around you.
And you don’t need to start a charity or make a huge donation to do that.
You could volunteer at an animal shelter, participate in a neighborhood cleanup, donate books to a local library, help organize a community event, or support a cause that matters to you.
Pick something you care about and find a way to contribute regularly.
Even a few hours every month can make a difference, and it might introduce you to wonderful people you wouldn’t otherwise meet.
30. Build a life outside your work
I think this is an especially important goal for anyone who spends most of their time working, studying, or chasing the next achievement.
Make 2027 the year you become someone who has interesting things going on outside their responsibilities.
Have hobbies that are purely for relaxing. Make plans that have nothing to do with networking. Read books that won’t teach you how to become more successful.
Go for walks without listening to productivity podcasts. Learn about subjects that have no connection to your career.
And please, give yourself time to do things that serve no purpose beyond making you happy.
You deserve to have a life that feels full even when you’re not accomplishing anything.

31. Make 2027 a year you’ll want to remember
For the final goal, I want you to think about how you’d like to remember 2027 when you’re looking back on it five or ten years from now.
What would make you smile?
Maybe it would be the year you finally traveled somewhere you’d always dreamed of visiting. Maybe it would be the year you fell in love, made wonderful friends, discovered a new passion, or started feeling at home in your own life.
Or perhaps it would simply be the year you stopped rushing through your days and started enjoying them.
Write a letter to your future self describing what you hope this year will look and feel like.
Then, throughout 2027, make choices that bring you closer to that vision.
You don’t have to make every day extraordinary. But you can absolutely make this a year filled with moments that are worth remembering.

A Little Reminder Before You Set Your 2027 Goals
I hope these new year goal ideas have given you plenty of inspiration for the year ahead.
But before you start writing down 31 goals and convincing yourself that you need to accomplish every single one, I want to remind you of something.
You don’t need to turn your entire life upside down to have an amazing year.
Pick the goals that excite you, make room for the things that matter to you, and leave enough space in your calendar for spontaneous plans, lazy afternoons, and unexpected adventures.
Some of your best memories in 2027 might come from things you never planned in the first place.
And while you’re working toward your goals, don’t forget to enjoy the person you are right now.
Here’s to a new year filled with good books, wonderful people, exciting experiences, happy surprises, and plenty of reasons to smile.
Let’s make 2027 a good one!
