Here are 15 tips that will help you channel your main character energy the right way.

‘Main character energy’ is one of those things that can either make you fall in love with your own life, or make you spiral into self-obsession or comparison if you’re not careful.
But do I think it’s necessary? Absolutely.
Even though this idea has mainly been spreading amongst the young people (thank you, TikTok, and I do not mean that sarcastically), every person needs and deserves to feel like the main character of their life.
No matter what age you are at, what stage of life, you need to be in this energy so that you can follow the dreams that you want, and live life that way you want.
Because to think about it, you really are the main character here. Why should you feel anything but that?
But since we’re all so connected to each other in the modern world, it becomes too easy to lose that perspective and feel insignificant.
To live your best life, you first need to step into your main character energy so that you can spend your days on earth feeling nothing but magnificent.
And to do that, you need to channel it in a way that’s empowering, not ego-driven.
You need to feel alive, present, and rooted in your own story, without forgetting that everyone else is starring in theirs, too.

So, if you are ready to embrace your main character energy (and you need it, trust me), the proper way, then read on!
Here are 15 practical, feel-good, and powerful ways to do it:
How To Feel Like The Main Character Of Your Life
1. Romanticize your ordinary moments
Okay, it’s literally impossible to talk about main character energy without talking about romanticizing (and vice versa). The two go hand-in-hand.
Romanticizing means putting effort into making ordinary moments special and movie-like.
I don’t mean aesthetics here, though, sure, you can focus on that too if you want to. But I mean things like:
- Noticing pretty moments like sunlight coming in from windows, or a fresh flower blooming in your garden.
- Making playlists that match your mood.
- Dressing as you care about how your day feels.
- Making your coffee/tea with love and attention instead of hurrying through it.
- Lighting a candle while eating dinner (scented or not, candles are good)
- Buying only your favorite things out of the lot because you don’t settle for less (doesn’t mean spending more money, just means being selective and prioritizing your wishes)
- Before settling down on the couch, making it cozy and comfy with blankets, and pouring some tea.
When you treat your daily life as art, you naturally start feeling like the protagonist, without needing an audience.
Plus, it genuinely makes you want to wake up each morning and face your day with a smile.
I romanticize every part of my day and every corner of my house I spend time in. It brings me so much joy, I wouldn’t want to live any other way.

2. Stay self-aware, not self-absorbed
True main character energy doesn’t say, “I’m better than others.” No, friend, never that.
Real main character energy says, “I’m responsible for the energy I bring into the world.”
When you step into that awareness (how your words, boundaries, and presence affect people), you actually glow differently.
Don’t try to be the funniest, the prettiest, and the bestest. You don’t need to be superior to anyone, because that energy doesn’t help you at all.
Be a good main character who’s grounded, intentional, and kind.
It might seem like this is for the sake of others, but no, this pureness will help you more than anyone else.
Good energy brings good energy; never forget that.
3. Do it for yourself, not the online world
In today’s world, so much of the main character energy gets tangled up with online validation.
People have this idea that if it’s not shared, it didn’t happen.
Snapping a pic and posting it online might give you instant gratification, but it kills your long-term joy, because then everything you do is for the digital world only.
And when you’re not posting something online, it will make you feel empty and not feel the beauty of the moment.
This is the reason I’ve never in my life been on Instagram (though seriously no judgements if you are, because I know it can be a beautiful space, but just not for me).
I believe that private joy is the best kind of joy.
Take photos no one else will see. Dance in your room with your curtains closed. Journal like no one will read it.
Your life doesn’t need to be performed to be meaningful.
Sometimes the best scenes are the ones that exist only for you and the people you love in real life.

4. Give meaning to your different life phases
Meaning, purpose, and intention — these are the things that separate people who are in their main character energy from those who don’t.
In every story you’ve read or watched, the main character has a purpose, right?
So, to channel your main character energy, you also need to give meaning to your life chapters.
Whenever you are entering a new life phase (a new month, year, or personal chapter), ask yourself what you need and make the coming days about that, like:
- This season is about self-trust.
- This chapter is about learning joy.
- This month is about slowing down.
When you name your seasons, you bring meaning to your days. You stop drifting and start directing gently, intentionally, and with heart.
5. Remember that every movie has a cast
When you hear the phrase ‘main character’, it’s very easy to visualize yourself alone doing awesome things. And a lot of it is about that, but you can’t forget that your story isn’t a solo act.
Main character energy should expand your empathy, not shrink it.
True main character energy includes empathy and recognizing that everyone around you is living a story just as complex as yours.
They have their own motives, struggles, and backstories.
So, all the people you have in your life, treat them like beautifully written side characters (not background extras, you know). See even strangers from this perspective.
Ask about their dreams, notice their moods, and make space for their stories alongside you.
When you do this, the connections you form will be rich, and you’ll stop competing, which will ultimately help you be in your own main character energy.

6. Don’t chase the plot twists
Main characters in movies need plot twists, but just for the sake of making your life interesting, don’t go chasing them.
Your life already has plenty of unknown twists and turns, and inviting trouble is no good thing.
You don’t need constant chaos or excitement to feel alive.
Slow and peaceful days are still part of your story, and maybe even the most important ones. That’s when you have real character development.
So, stop trying to force movie moments and know that stillness has its own magic. It will help you grow and prepare you for everything life has in store for you.
7. Romanticize your growth, not just your aesthetics
A lot of main character energy online focuses on how things look — the outfit, the matcha, the desk setup.
But the real main character energy is about your inner evolution, when you’re quietly learning to let go, heal, and start again.
Don’t just romanticize the things around you. Also romanticize your growth and how far you’ve come.
Notice when you handle something better than you would have a year ago, and celebrate that.
Maybe you communicate better now, or you’re kind to yourself, or you don’t chase what drains you anymore.
All of this is a real glow-up, and that’s what makes your story worth living.

8. Take bold action even when no one claps
Being a main character means being brave enough to make your own choices.
I know that can be scary at times. You might look for validation around you before making a big move, but I am telling you that you don’t need it.
If your heart really wants something, why should it matter what others think about it? You can seek advice, sure, but in the end, making bold choices is all up to you.
Main characters move their story forward, even when the world isn’t watching.
Courage has way, way more weight and value than approval.
So, please, do the thing that you’re scared of, apply for that opportunity, change your mind, and start over.
Not every brave choice comes with applause, but you know what it does? It moves your story forward, and that’s all that matters.
9. Make solitude sacred
You know who makes a great protagonist, in my opinion? The ones who spend time alone, because that’s where clarity, creativity, and peace live.
If you want true main character energy, then learn to be happy alone.
When you have nobody to spend time with, spend time with yourself by doing things that fill you up.
And even when people surround you, carve out your me-time and make it count.
Learn to enjoy silence, solo walks, meals by yourself, and journaling in the evening.
These moments will help you hear your own voice again, and in today’s noisy world, this will act as a superpower, trust me.

10. Speak to yourself like a narrator, not a critic
Look, we all make mistakes, and we all have times when we think we’re doing it all wrong. It comes with being human.
But as a good main character, you need to learn how to handle this with positivity.
Telling yourself you’re a mess won’t help you at all. Don’t be a tortured main character, because that’s no fun.
During times like these, become a narrator and tell yourself, ‘She’s having a rough day, but she’s trying, and that’s beautiful.’
I know this may seem super silly, but changing your inner voice to a kind narrator softens your self-talk and makes you see your growth more clearly.
You’re not failing; you’re developing as a character!
11. Curate your environment
I’ve said this before and will say it again. You don’t need to make your space aesthetic or Pinterest-friendly. Main-character energy isn’t about perfectionism or surface-level beauty at all.
But cozy, meaningful, clean, and organized space? Yes, you’re going to need that.
When your space is positive and reflects the person you’re becoming, your everyday life becomes easy and fun.
You should look forward to unwinding at home after a long day, and even when you’re just hustling around doing stuff, you should feel safe and good in your environment.
You don’t have a lot of control in the outer world, but in your home, you’re the queen/king, so make it yours.
Light a candle, keep fresh flowers, play seasonal playlists, clear your house every week, and organize monthly. Sprinkle your house with little and affordable reminders of beauty.
Curating your environment will make your days flow instead of just passing by. Best kind of energy ever!

12. Don’t compare your movie to someone else’s
We’re coming close to the end of the post now, and this is the right time for the strongest reminder for you: Stop comparing yourself to others, my friend.
You’re not behind anyone, and you’re definitely not late.
You’re just in a different act of your own story.
As long as you stay true to who you are and do what you want, you have no business comparing your journey to someone else’s.
I mean, would you ever compare Arya Stark with…let’s say, Tony Stark? No, right? Because that would be crazy.
Your pace is your own, so stay in your lane, honor your journey, and trust that your story will unfold in its own perfect rhythm (it always does).
13. Know when to pause the scene
You don’t have to be ‘on’ all the time to be awesome. In fact, to keep doing the things you want to do, you need to take a pause when it’s needed.
This means sleeping every night on time, taking breaks during work, chilling on the weekends instead of fretting about the next week, and
It also means saying no to people when you need to, going slow because your mind needs it, disconnecting from social media when it gets to be too much, sitting in stillness with your loved ones, and letting things unfold instead of forcing them.
Without rest and relaxation, you won’t have a story to live at all because you’ll be too exhausted for it.
So, please, pause the scene and do it often so that you can do better the next day, and then the next day, and so on.

14. Let your main character energy inspire others
The most magnetic main characters are the ones who make everyone around them feel seen. At least, I think so, and I try to be more like that every day.
It’s good to inspire others to be kinder, to smile more, and to be bolder.
Bring the energy to the table that you love receiving from others.
Smile at people, share your lessons, and show vulnerability when you need to.
With your authenticity, you can inspire others to be themselves too, and that’s how your main character energy becomes beautifully contagious.
15. Stay curious about what comes next
Main characters don’t know how the story ends, and that’s what keeps their story exciting.
Stay open, let life surprise you, and be willing to turn the page, even when it’s uncertain.
You never know what beautiful subplot or new character might appear next, so staying open to anything happening is the best gift you can give to yourself.
Curiosity is the first step toward being a bold character, so make sure you keep yours open as often as you can.
Get Ready To Channel Your Main Character Vibes
Having main character energy doesn’t mean thinking yourself more special than everyone else.
It’s just thinking, knowing, and believing that you are special, period.
It’s choosing presence over performance, awareness over attention, and growth over perfection.
When you live like that, you stop chasing a story worth sharing and start living one worth remembering.
