Pick your favorites from this list of morning tips to create a perfect morning routine and start your day like a boss.
Many people say they don’t have time for morning activities, but I think they lack the intention and motivation to start their day right.
And the reason why this happens is because they’ve never explored the right morning habits.
As a student, I had a fixed morning routine that I followed strictly so that I could get to school on time, but I hated it with all my might.
Looking back, I can see what was lacking – my mornings had activities all directed toward productivity, with little room for self-care or positive intentions. No wonder I hated my mornings.
This is why I am always harping about the importance of good morning routines on my blog.
Adding the right morning habits to my life changed me as a person, for the better.
In this post, I want to share 31 morning tips that can do the same for you.
Pick your favorite tips from this list, and create a colorful morning routine for yourself with the right balance of happy, healthy, and productive.
31 Superb Morning Routine Ideas
1. Wake up earlier
Shift your wake-up time 30 minutes earlier so that you have enough time for your morning rituals.
Waking up early will help you avoid rushing around in a hurry and start your day on a slower note.
2. Have a glass of water first thing
Your first order of business in the morning should always be to drink a glass of water, even before you head to the washroom.
Bonus points if you can take warm water and squeeze in some lemon.
3. Make your bed
Start your day with a sense of accomplishment by making your bed every morning.
It hardly takes a few minutes but it will make you instantly active by signaling to your brain that it’s time to step into a brand new day.
This is easily one of the best micro habits for your morning routine.
4. Do some stretches
Incorporate gentle stretching exercises into your mornings to wake up your muscles and increase your blood flow.
I usually hit play on a 5 or 10-minute stretching routine on YouTube and follow along.
5. Get sunlight
Spend some time outdoors or by a window to soak in the natural sunlight.
Not only will this help your circadian rhythm, but will also rejuvenate your mind and body.
If there’s ever a time to expose your senses to nature, it’s during the morning, when all the green things and sunshine are just blooming and getting ready for a new day.
6. Make time for gratitude
Take a moment to reflect on the things you’re thankful for and count your blessings.
A pretty 5-minute gratitude journal will be insanely helpful for this.
7. Do some deep breathing
For the peeps prone to overthinking and stressing during the day, deep breathing in the morning will act as a savior.
Sit down, close your eyes, and focus on your breaths for two minutes.
Your racing thoughts will go quiet and you’ll open your eyes to a different world (not an exaggeration).
8. Limit your screen time
If your day starts with notifications and videos, then screens will pretty much occupy all your coming hours.
Even if you can’t do a complete digital detox in the morning, try to limit your screen time, especially during the first hour after waking up.
This is how you’ll make time for other natural morning activities and tune into the present.
9. Practice positive affirmations
For your morning dose of positivity, feed yourself some daily affirmations by repeating them out loud or writing in your journal.
You can also invest in this beautiful affirmations deck. It has a collection of unique affirmations that your morning spirit will love.

10. Set your top three priorities
Jot down your three top priorities for the day in a notepad.
This will help you establish clear intentions so that you can focus your energy and attention on what matters the most.
It’s also easier to tackle your challenging and dreadful tasks once you’ve added them to your priority list.
11. Exercise
Those who like to do daily workouts might consider getting it done in the morning.
For one, it’ll act as an amazing stress-buster and keep you happy all day long. Secondly, you’ll have one less important task to tick off during the day.

12. Enjoy a cup of tea
Sip on herbal tea like green tea or chamomile tea to hydrate and relax your body.
Of course, coffee is always there, but I had to try to convince you to go for the healthier stuff first. I love a good cup of coffee though.
13. Listen to music
Start your day on a positive note by tuning into motivating or soothing music, whatever mood you’re for. I usually prefer slow mornings, so my music during this time is also soft and slow.
It’s a great way to set the tone for your mornings.
14. Tune into a podcast
If you’re not in the mood for music but would still like to have some background sound while you go about your chores, then tune into a feel-good podcast.
My current favorite is ‘Growing With The Flow’ by Nanyna Florence.
15. Take care of your hygiene
Maintain good personal hygiene habits like brushing your teeth, washing your face, and grooming to feel refreshed and ready to tackle the day.
16. Use an ice roller
No matter how sleepy I am feeling in the morning, an ice roller wakes me up like nothing else does.
Besides helping your skin and making you glow, it’s also an amazing mindfulness ritual that will ground you to the present moment.
17. Journal your morning thoughts
Write down your thoughts, goals, or reflections in a journal to declutter your mind and gain some clarity.
I prefer creating positive morning entries talking about my plans for the day and life to fill up my motivation cup.
18. Create a to-do list
Whether you’re an organized person or someone who likes to go with the flow, creating a to-do list can be helpful for your daily activities.
Write down all your minor and major tasks on a notepad and tick them off as you go about your day.
This will give you a sense of accomplishment and avoid stressing about your pending work.
19. Hug your loved ones
There’s nothing lovelier in the morning than greeting your loved ones with a smile, or better yet, with a hug!
When you step outside your room, hug your parents, your partner, your kids, or your dog.
My pomeranian loves his morning cuddles and his happy face makes a reaction to me waking up just makes my day.
20. Do something creative
Not many people consider starting their day with a hobby, but if you can spare a few minutes for it, I’d highly recommend trying it out.
Even once or twice a week would be great. It’ll get your creative juices flowing and give you inspirational ideas about life.
21. Practice visualization
Close your eyes and visualize yourself accomplishing your goals and living your ideal life to manifest positivity and success.
This ritual will go well with morning meditation and deep breathing exercises.
22. Schedule your tasks
If you are super organized and specific about how you spend your time, then schedule your tasks ahead of time.
I recommend doing this manually using a daily planner.
Or if you’d like to go digital, then use Google Calendars for time blocking and scheduling.
23. Do your skincare routine
Cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin to keep it healthy and glowing.
Use a hydrating lip balm, and don’t forget your sunscreen, even if you’ll be staying indoors.
24. Pick a positive mantra for your day
Decide what your mantra for the day is going to be, and write it down somewhere to solidify its intention.
It’ll keep you focused on your main goal all day long.
25. Read something inspiring
Spend a few minutes reading a motivational quote, poem, or passage from a book that uplifts and inspires you.
My current morning read: The Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard.
26. Practice self-massage
As great as it is to head to the spa for a massage, that’s not an option for the morning. But you can still give yourself a massage.
Use a foam roller or massage ball to release tension in your muscles, and enjoy practicing self-love and self-care.
27. Take a cold shower
Save your warm baths for the evening, and go for a cold shower to boost circulation, increase alertness, and improve your mood.
This one will take guts, but your body and mind will thank you for it later.
Of course, keep the weather in mind before pulling this stunt. I usually prefer cold showers only during summer mornings.
28. Incorporate aromatherapy
People usually save their scented candles and oil diffusers for evenings, but why not start your day with a good smell as well?
Use essential oils like lavender, peppermint, or citrus to create a calming or energizing atmosphere in your space, and give yourself the gift of aromatherapy in the morning.
29. Learn something new
In case you didn’t know, morning is the time of day when the human mind is at its peak focus level.
So, if you have any skills that you’d like to work on, do it in the morning.
You can learn a new language, take a course in your career, or study (if you have an exam to prep for).
30. Pack healthy snacks
To avoid munching on packed items during work, prepare nutritious snacks to keep yourself fueled and focused during the day.
Fruits and sandwiches are easy choices for this.
31. Make yourself good breakfast
Prepare a balanced breakfast rich in protein, fiber, and healthy fats to stay energetic all day long.
Enjoy the cooking process, and put effort into your breakfast. It is, after all, the most important meal of the day.
