But in the end, I believe organizing is what helped me sail through my study schedule smoothly and make time for everything.
To this date, it is one of the most useful skills that I possess. I don’t think it’d have been possible for me to be a full-time blogger if I didn’t know how to keep myself organized.

10 Simple Ways To Organize Your Life
1. Create A Checklist
The first thing you want to do is create a list of all the areas of your life you want to keep organized.
Often, we procrastinate organizing because it appears to be such a monumental task.
But having a list will help you break down your organizing tasks and do them separately according to your schedule.
You can use this list to keep track of your organizing habits, which will help you stick to a routine.
To keep things simple, I suggest breaking down your checklist as much as possible.
For example, instead of just writing down ‘my room’ as one of the items on the list, you might want to write down the different things in your room that need to be organized (cupboard, shelves, drawers.)
This will motivate you to stay more organized by going through one small area at a time.
Remember that the simpler your tasks, the more likely you are to do them.
This is what my organizing checklist looks like:
- Bookshelf
- Skincare drawer
- Journals drawer
- Study desk
- Wardrobe
- Shoe rack
- Kitchen
- Refrigerator
- Phone, laptop, and tablet
- Handbag and wallet
Create one for yourself as soon as you’re done reading this post. I promise it really helps.
2. Don’t Shy Away From Planners And Notebooks
Mark my words, peeps. When it comes to getting organized, planners and notebooks are your best friends.
I used to feel anxious at the thought of using a planner, but once I bought one and invested some time in it, I was able to double up my productivity and organize my time more efficiently.
A planner is super effective in organizing your daily routine. You might have plans in your head for your day, but writing them down will solidify
Here are some things I recommend you quickly invest in:
- To-Do List Notebooks
- Notepads (to scribble down impromptu plans)
- Daily Planner
- Colored Pens (to make planning fun)
- Sticky Notes
Side Note: Mental organizing is just as important!
I hope you journal your thoughts regularly to practice self-care. And if not, now would be a good time to hop on and invest in a feel-good journal. 🙂
3. Focus On The Important Things First
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve prioritized the wrong things in the name of being more ‘organized.’
There are about a dozen things that might need to be done in a day, but if you were to attempt all of them at once, where would that get you?
Learn the art of prioritizing the right things instead of picking up tasks that don’t have much value for your long-term goals.
If you have four pending tasks, pick up the one that is the most important, and get it done before you even touch the other three.
Avoid multitasking at all costs as that just leads to chaos and disorganization. Once again, using a planner will help you with this.

4. Have A Fixed Place For Every Single Item
Each of your belongings should have a fixed place in your house. This will avoid things from going missing and your place will always be tidy.
If your current set-up doesn’t follow this rule, you might want to spare a few hours to reorganize everything.
While you’re doing this, keep in mind that your end goal is to send every single item to a suitable position.
Your least used stuff should be put in a place that isn’t visible and isn’t visited that often, while the things you use the most should be easily accessible to you.
Send your work-related stuff to your desk, put your cute things out on display, and find a home for the things that have been lying around in random places.
Feel free to re-organize your items from time to time as your needs change.
5. Organize Your Personal And Professional Life Separately
Pay attention, folks. If you want your life to be simple and stress-free, you need to create a healthy boundary between your work life and your personal life.
And the most basic way to ensure a healthy work-life balance is to organize your personal and professional life separately. I can’t harp on this strongly enough.
Up until recently, even while being so organized, my work life was so visible in my personal area, and once I realized how much this was affecting me, I didn’t hesitate to take action.
If you are able to turn a spare room into your work room, nothing would be better than that.
You can easily store all of your work-related stuff in that room and never have to stare at your files while binging a sitcom from your bed.
But this might not always be possible, in which case, you simply need to ensure that all your things from work are neatly tucked away in places that you don’t use for your personal things.
Keep your desk organized at all times, tuck away your files and laptop once you’re done using them, and use a different stationary kit for your work-related tasks.
6. Make Lists To Stay Organized
Making lists is perhaps the least time-taking way to organize your life. From self-care activities to daily routines, you can create lists for all kinds of things.
I usually prepare lists of things that I struggle to organize in my head.
For example, I sometimes have a lot that needs to be done before 8 am. So, instead of fretting about the impending tasks, I first sit and prepare a morning routine checklist before I do anything else.
This helps me brain-dump my plans
These are some productive lists you can make to stay organized:
- Goals list
- Shopping list
- Packing list
- Sunday checklist
- Anniversary and birthday list
- Bucket list
- Skincare routine
- Bedtime checklist
7. Use Time-Management Tools
Time is your most valuable asset. Spend it wisely and you’ll naturally find your life being more organized.
I love using tools and techniques for time management to save myself from the headache of scheduling my time mentally.
What I recommend:
- Google Calendars (for scheduling)
- A Timer (for focus sessions)
- Daily Planner
Google Calendars lets you create multiple schedules for your different needs. You can create a workout routine, self-care routine, and work routine to manage all the important aspects of your life.
It also allows you to create tasks and set reminders for events. I don’t use it every single day, but on my busy days, it really helps me stay on top of things.
You can use a timer to set focus sessions while you’re doing any work. Set your timer to 25 minutes and then focus on your work until the beep goes off.
You can take a short break of 5 minutes before jumping back to your task or moving on to the next one. This is the infamous Pomodoro technique!
I’ve already touched upon the importance of a daily planner and won’t bore you with its importance again. But I hope you’re considering getting one at this point; you really need it.

8. Declutter Regularly
Do you have items in your possession that you don’t use anymore? Or maybe some of your drawers are stuffed with paperwork that should have been shredded long ago?
Regular decluttering is important to stay tidy and organized, and simply have more space in your home.
You can’t tell me that you buy things regularly but don’t discard any of your old items. Many of your personal spaces will end up being cluttered that way.
Declutter your house every month to get rid of things that you haven’t used in the past 6 months and remove all the trash that you’ve stuffed in random places (out of sight doesn’t always mean out of mind.)
Another rule I like to follow while decluttering is to get rid of things that don’t bring me joy. It helps to let go of what doesn’t serve you anymore and make way for better and happier things.
Besides, what’s not of use to you could mean a whole lot to someone out there. Give away such things to charity. It’ll make your decluttering sessions much more meaningful.
9. Be Okay With Delegating
Believe it or not, being organized doesn’t mean doing it all on your own. That would drive anyone insane.
Shouldering everything on your own is not a helpful skill. Take it from someone who’s tried to be a control genie and had an epic fail.
Sometimes, you need to lean on others and let them handle things for you.
Instead of taking on all the house chores upon you, share them with all the members. Ask for help with your personal tasks as well.
If you have a job that allows you to outsource some of your work, consider doing that if the ROI is worth it.
Be okay with delegating the minor tasks so that you can focus on the things that require 100% input on your behalf.

10. Do Some Organizing Every Day
My last organizing tip for this post is super important. You don’t want to leave all your organizing for your ‘cleaning day’.
That will just make the process of organizing painful and sweat-inducing, because of which you wouldn’t feel inspired to do any organizing in the first place.
The trick to staying organized at all times is to do your organizing in bits and pieces. I personally schedule 15 minutes of organizing each day and it works well for me.
Every morning, I decide what part of my room I want to fix up, and then pencil it into my routine. Then I tidy up that part of my room without doing any major changes.
For example, if you pick your wardrobe, then just fold up the clothes and make sure everything looks neat.
No need to rearrange anything or change the order in which you organize your clothes. You can leave that part for your organizing sprees.
This one habit will make the process of getting organized super easy and lovable for you. Amazing how one minor tweak to your routine can be so impactful.
It’s Time To Organize Your Life
