Your ultimate guide to summer glow up is here! Use these 10 lovely tips to beautify your health and wellness this season and feel confident in your skin.
When summer rolls around, two areas of my life are impacted the most. First, the weather, of course, and second, my social media feeds.
While the shift from cold nights to warm sunshiny days is often welcome, I can’t say the same about the reels and updates that bombard my screen.
It’s overwhelming — contradicting skincare tips popping on your screen, influencers trying out hot summer trends, and friends going on vacations to places you haven’t even heard of before.
Clearly, I speak from experience, but panicking over my summer plans and routines is now a thing of the past for me.
I’ve learned that when it comes to health and beauty, keeping it natural and calm is the way to win the game.
The same goes for a summer glow-up.
It isn’t about bronzer and beach waves (although those can be fun too!).
Rather, it’s about feeling confident and beautiful in your own skin, from the inside out, which is what my 10-step summer glow up checklist is all about.
If you’re ready to step into your natural glam this summer and get healthy without making things boring, then read on!
Summer Glow Up Checklist
1. Hydrate Yourself Like Crazy
Summer heat is a sneaky dehydrator.
It doesn’t matter whether you love your water or think of it as a boring task, hydration needs to be your top priority for a healthy summer.
Level up your water intake to 10-12 glasses a day.
Start your day with a glass of water, carry a bottle with you at all times, and munch on water-rich fruits and veggies like watermelon and cucumber to keep your skin plump and glowing.

2. Cleanse And Moisturize
Cleansers are saviors for the skin during summer.
You might want to change yours to something that’s summer-friendly and suitable for your skin type.
I have found that foam-based face washes — particularly the ones containing salicylic acid — work best for my sensitive and acne-prone skin.
I know summer can make your face feel oily and sticky, but don’t let that stop you from moisturizing still.
Go for a lighter formula that you can put on after cleansing your face, and stick to till the end of summer to keep your face oils in check.
3. Don’t Forget Your SPF
People could tell me all kinds of crazy stuff they do or don’t do for their skincare routine and I wouldn’t bat an eyelash.
But if you tell me you don’t use sunscreen coz you don’t need it, I’m going to judge hard.
Your skin needs protection from sunscreen all year round, especially during summer, when the sun is hot and heavy in the sky.
Apply sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days and even if you’re indoors. Broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is your BFF.
Apply it after a shower, and if you’re really pumped about keeping your skin healthy, reapply it every 3 or 4 hours during the day.

4. Keep Your Body Moving And Grooving
You can make excuses during winter to stay huddled in your blankets, but summer is no time to stay sitting.
Find physical activities that you love and get your blood pumping every day.
You can go out for long and brisk morning walks, dance in your room, or hit the gym and swimming pool.
Your body will obviously love you for this, but your mood will also stay sky-high throughout the season.
5. Exfoliate Your Skin
Regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells, helping you maintain your natural complexion.
But during hotter months, this practice becomes extra important to get rid of summer sweat, dirt, and bacteria.
Pick a good face scrub and use it twice or thrice a week to keep your face free from impurities.
Once a week, use a body scrub during the shower instead of your shower gel. You can also use it before shaving for smoother skin.
6. Get Your Beauty Sleep
Here’s a guilty (but not really) confession on my end — I don’t have an ideal bedtime routine during summer.
I just love the long and quiet summer nights and like to spend them working or indulging in happy self-care.
But I don’t let this odd habit of mine stop me from getting my beauty sleep during the day.
As long as my body gets uninterrupted sleep of 7-8 hours at a fixed time (whatever time that might be), it stays healthy and active.
So, please, no matter what your routine looks like, prioritize your beauty sleep, and don’t let my nocturnal habits rub off on you.
Sleep well, and sleep at night for at least 7 hours. Your summer glow up won’t be possible without this one habit.
7. Opt For A Natural Hair Routine
It’s tempting to get some fancy hair treatment done to avoid hair damage from the summer heat, but such things only lead to more harm to your hair.
This summer, embrace your natural hair texture by ditching heat styling tools. Let your hair air dry whenever possible.
If you have to do heat styling for some reason, apply a heat protectant spray to shield your locks, but try to go for natural hacks as much as possible.
Rollers and overnight braids can give your hair that natural bouncy and wavy look that your electric stylers can’t.
Switch your shampoo and conditioner to something summer-friendly, and combat dryness with deep hair conditioning masks once or twice a week.
I also recommend the occasional use of pre and post-shower hair serums to keep your hair healthy and shiny.
8. Wear What Makes You Feel Fierce
Summer clothes are so fun to experiment with, and definitely lighter on the pocket than those bulky winter purchases.
You might be someone who loves trying out new fashion trends or someone who loves sticking to their usual wardrobe theme.
If your current summer wardrobe makes you super duper happy, then you have nothing to change.
But if there’s even an ounce of insecurity with your clothes, then don’t hesitate to change things up a bit.
You only have one life, and it’s not worth spending your days wearing things that make you feel itchy or unlike yourself.
Wear what makes you feel amazing — clothes that flatter your body type and make you feel authentic.
This will come from experimenting with new styles and colors, and listening to that voice in your head that screams ‘yes and no’ the moment you put on a new piece of clothing for the first time.
9. Accessorize With Intention
The right accessories can elevate any outfit. You might think you’re not an accessory type of gal, but you won’t know for sure until you give it a good try.
Get a hat, a pair of sunglasses, and some basic pieces of jewelry that match your personality and put you in your summer fun zone.
If you like wearing this stuff, then start building your collection one piece at a time.
Don’t be afraid to try quirky pendants and bold rings.
Anything that screams ‘you’ can never be wrong, regardless of whether it’s in style or not.

10. Work On Your Inner Health
If I had to pick just one tip out of this long list of summer glow up ideas, it’d be this last piece.
You could be on the best health routine for summer, but it wouldn’t mean much if you’re not happy on the inside.
This can only come from prioritizing your inner health, i.e., self-care and all things related to your mental well-being.
Do things that make you happy and remind you of your worth, like practicing affirmations, going on quiet walks, making time for hobbies, and reading rom-coms in a park or at the beach.
Journal before bed, visit new cafes for a solo date, step away from your digital devices to focus on the world around you, and schedule your me-time along with your other summer plans.
Nice hair, glowing skin, and fashionable clothes can never make up for the joy of spending time on your rooftop with a glass of lemonade.
Always remember that your inner glow is the most important accessory of all.
Look after it well, and nobody can stop you from getting that fresh summer glow that you’re after.
