Check out these 14 fall organizing tips to reset your life and transition smoothly into the new season. Best post for people looking to get organized for the autumn, winter, and holidays.
I am yet to meet a person who doesn’t enjoy the season of fall.
It nestles perfectly in between summer and winter – not too cold, not too hot, and perfect for outdoor activities, fun family moments, and cozy me-time.
But as with every change in season, fall also demands a reorganization of basically every part of your life.
From your family time to your daily routine, there are a lot of changes that need to be made if you want to enjoy the winter season and your holidays without any hassle.
I am just beginning to prep for the coming season (starting a little early because I wanted to get in contact with my autumn spirit in advance).
In between planning fall content for my blog and shopping for some new outfits, I have been working on changing the theme of my room for the coming season.
(As you can probably guess by now, I am an autumn girl through and through, and I simply adore this part of me.)
To get myself moving faster so that I can move on to the fall festivities, I assembled a fall organizing checklist that I thought you might want me to share.
These 14 fall organizing tips are what you need to look out for when you are transitioning your house and personal life to align with the changing season.

14 Simple Fall Organizing Tips
1. Start With The Seasonal Wardrobe Switch
As the weather starts to cool down, it’s time to switch out your summer wardrobe for your autumn clothing.
I am usually not a fan of organizing my wardrobe, but the seasonal wardrobe switch always gets me excited.
Your wardrobe gets a new appearance and that completely changes the vibe of your room. It’s hitting the refresh button on your surroundings!
For your fall organizing, pack away your lightweight clothing and say adios to your darling summery dresses (they’ll be making a comeback next year, no worries.)
Pull out your sweaters, jackets, and warm clothes from the storage and organize them in your wardrobe.
I like to stack my items by their usage, which means my thermals go in one place, scarves in another, and my sweaters and jackets are stacked together in a separate part of the wardrobe.
This is also a great opportunity to declutter your closet and donate or sell items you no longer wear.
2. Tweak Your Routine
One of my favorite fall organizing tips for you is to tweak your daily routine and introduce some new habits for your fall days.
You might want your mornings to be less rushed and more about mindfulness and slow living. For that, add some self-care activities like reading, yoga, and journaling to your morning routine.
Fill your break time with outdoor activities like taking a walk, drinking coffee on a bench, and reading one chapter of a cozy romance novel.
Your weekends should involve some fall activity, and your night routine should also be adjusted to include some cozy and heart-warming self-care rituals.

3. Change Your Home Decor
If you want to fully get into the swing of things, then transition your home decor to reflect the cozy autumn vibe.
Romanticizing the seasons is good for your well-being and happiness.
Swap out lighter, summery decor items for warm and rustic elements like throw blankets, decorative pumpkins, and earth-toned accents.
Put your cozy romance books on display, and buy some new ones! It’s my favorite part of the autumn decor, mainly because it’s super easy to do and the bibliophile in me loves it.
If you want to glow up your life (literally), then put up some fairy lights in your room. Your space will look like it’s being visited by fireflies throughout the holiday season.
4. Do A Deep Cleaning
Before you settle into the cozy season, give your home a thorough cleaning. From your bathroom to your attic, you need to touch up all the parts of your house.
Dust and vacuum the areas that might have been neglected during the summer months. This will create a fresh and inviting atmosphere, and get into a cleaner mind space as well.
Remember – Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean you can leave it.
All the nooks and corners that are invisible to the eye should be cleaned, as your home can’t produce good vibes unless each part of it has been taken care of.
I know this isn’t your favorite part of the routine, but the sooner you get it out of the way, the better it will be.

5. Organize Your Pantry and Kitchen
For obvious reasons, I don’t feel like stepping foot inside the kitchen during the hot season. But come fall, I love prancing around with baking items, looking up delicious fall recipes to feed my family and myself.
If you can relate, then take some time to organize your pantry, toss out any expired items, and make a list of the ingredients for your fall recipes.
Stock up on the necessary items on a weekend, and arrange your kitchen to accommodate your upcoming cooking and baking activities.
This way, when holidays start striking, you’ll be prepared to launch straight into your ched mode without having to worry about kitchen organization.
6. Begin Your Holiday Preparation In Advance
You can never start your holiday preparation too soon. If you want to avoid holiday stress and have loads of fun with your people this season, then fall is the right time to start your preparations.
Drag out your decorations box and do a thorough inspection to determine what needs to be thrown out and what can be reused. Make a list of items you’ll need to re-purchase.
Decide your gifts, check in with people who’ll be available to come to your parties, and start prepping for your gatherings in advance.
I love jumping up on the holiday preparation because it gets me in my blissful zone sooner, and you can never be too happy about the holidays, right?
7. Clean Your Outdoors
You might want to tidy up your outdoor spaces before the cold weather sets in.
Store or cover any outdoor furniture that you have, clean up your garden, and prepare your yard for the upcoming season.
Make a checklist of all your outdoor cleaning tasks and tick one task off each day to avoid getting burnout.
Sweep away all the fallen leaves every two days to keep your outdoors clean and mess-free.
Delegating some of your tasks to the other family members might help. It’s better to ask for help with the heavy tasks instead of doing it all by yourself.
8. Take Out Your Fall Cleaning Supplies
Having the right cleaning tools is super important during the fall. It makes it easier to keep your indoors and outdoors clean during the season.
Dig into your basement and pull out all your fall-cleaning supplies to tackle the fallen leaves, rainy-day messes, and muddy spots.
If you lack any of your supplies, then head out and stock up.
9. Fall Meal Planning
Fall and winter food are extremely popular and for good reason. These seasons come attached with some of the best recipes and dishes.
To avoid missing out on your favorite fall food, plan your meals for the season ahead. Plan your meals for the season ahead.
Create a meal plan and a shopping list that includes seasonal ingredients for your bookmarked recipes and all your favorite comfort foods.
Stock up on marshmallows, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and all the other ingredients for your fall drinks. I’d recommend getting more ingredients than snacks.
This way, you get to enjoy fall cooking as well as eating (whilst avoiding binging on snacks.)

10. Digital Decluttering
For me, digital decluttering is one of the most satisfying ways to mark a new beginning.
You don’t want to step into a new season with your digital devices in a state of disarray. All your spaces should be neat and tidy for the fall, including your digital world.
Start with taking a deep breath, and then unfollow the people on social media who you don’t interact with anymore (uncomfortable, but necessary).
Decide what social media platform you want to step back from for a while, and remove the app from your phone.
Sort through your email inbox, organize your desktop, and declutter your digital files. Run a virus scan on your mobile and laptop, and clear the cache.
Don’t forget to tidy up your gallery to make some space for all the cute pictures you’ll be taking this season.

11. Coat and Shoe Organization
As autumn rolls in, so do heavier clothing items like jackets, coats, and boots.
You, your family members, and your visitors are going to need an organizing system for the fall clothing,
Set up a designated space for coats, jackets, and shoes near the entryway.
This will help prevent clutter from piling up and make it easy for you and your family to grab what you need as you head in and out.
12. Home Maintenance
Once the holiday season starts, you won’t want to be stuck with a broken pipe or a leaking faucet.
It’s better to get your home maintenance task out of the way in the fall.
Do an inspection of your house and make a list of all the home maintenance tasks that need to be done before winter.
This might include cleaning the gutters, fixing your heating system, and sealing any gaps that might let cold air in.
13. Prepare A Fall Bucket List
Being organized isn’t just all work and no fun.
You should prepare to make this fall your best one so far, and the one way to make that happen is to create a fall bucket list in advance.
Some activities you might want to add:

- Go to a haunted house
- Learn a pumpkin recipe

14. Set Your Personal Goals
Ever heard of the fresh start effect?
It’s a phenomenon in which a person perceives the start of a new time period as an opportunity to make a ‘fresh start’ and to pursue their goals with renewed motivation.
Use the change in the season as a cue to revisit your goals and set new ones for the rest of the year.
Take some time to reflect on your year so far, reset your priorities, and come up with an action plan for the coming months.
Side tip: Starting a new journal might help you double up on your self-motivation and achieve your goals in time.
