Constant comparison and pressure to always be your best can make you overlook the happiness that is all around you.
But at the end of the day, you are the main character of your story, with the power to create happiness and shift your mindset toward positivity.
And that’s exactly what the art of romanticizing life did for me.
It taught me how to surround myself with beauty, both internally and externally, and to create good vibes rather than wait for positivity to come to me.
It helped me realize that I am whole on my own, and that self-love is the first form of love I need to focus on to be able to love others better.

To craft a life full of blissful moments, you need to make sure that you start each day on a romanticized note.
If you’re rushing in the morning, your tone for the day will be fast as well.
There’ll be no mindfulness to stop and appreciate the little things or make any efforts to beautify your mundane tasks.
Start your day with a routine that is soft on your mind and fills your heart with gratitude and contentment.
Have a glass of warm water after waking up, step outside for a minute for some fresh air, and think of three things that you feel blessed to have in your life.
Make some tea or coffee, and sit down with your journal to write a morning entry.
Read a section of a self-help book to fill up your inspiration tank, and once you’re grounded in the present, move on to your morning chores and activities for the day.
It might appear as if you’d need a lot of time for a slow morning routine, but that’s not the case at all.
I do most of these morning rituals almost every day, and it takes me 30-40 minutes to go through them, which is time well spent out of the 1440 minutes that you have in a day.

2. Dress Up Yourself
Dressing up for yourself can boost your mood and add a sense of glamour to your day.
While getting ready, take the time to choose outfits that make you feel confident and good about yourself, even if you’re not going anywhere special.
Favor clothes that fit you well, use accessories to spice up your look, and wear a colored lip balm at all times for a cute look.
You can also have a signature look that makes you feel good and authentic. It could be a bright red lipstick, a certain hairstyle, or always having on a wristwatch.
At home, wear cozy and comfortable clothes and make sure they’re well-washed so that you can smell good all day.
3. Do Spontaneous Things
I thrive on having well-formed plans, but being organized isn’t always as fun as being spontaneous.
Throughout the day, you might feel urges to do things that you know would make you happy.
It could be going out for coffee, baking some treats, or visiting a friend. But laziness and the habit of putting things off might hold you back from doing stuff on a whim.
To enhance your everyday life, make it a point to be more spontaneous.
Go out for walks when you’re bored at home, stop by the gift shop on your way back from home to buy something for your partner, and surprise yourself by buying a single movie ticket for the weekend.

Good lighting can do wonders for the ambiance of your space, making even the simplest moments feel magical.

Decorate your living space with fairy lights or soft, ambient lighting that you can turn on when you’re in the mood for a cozy atmosphere.
Light candles when you’re reading, enjoying a solo meal while watching a movie, or having a long bath after a tiring day.

I sometimes even leave it on and keep it on my bed while doing other stuff. Amazing how something so small can be so helpful in romanticizing the most mundane tasks.
5. Talk To Yourself
When you’re alone, you don’t stop smelling, seeing, or feeling. Then why do you have to stop talking?
I know this seems like silly logic, but I see no reason to spend your life without verbally communicating with yourself.
I mean, movies show hot-headed and free-spirited women talking and mumbling to themselves all the time. Why shouldn’t you be just as free?
Talk to yourself when you’re in your room. If not full-formed sentences, maybe drop a few phrases here and there like ‘Oh, I totally forgot that’, or ‘Okay, I got this.’
You can also talk to your belongings, you know. Like when you’re looking for a book and finally find it and say out loud, ‘Oh, there you are!’
Basically, be more expressive even when you’re not with someone. It’s a cute way to romanticize your me-time and enjoy being alone.
6. Become A Part Of Nature
No matter how much you love technology or a fast-paced life, deep down, we’re all nature-loving souls seeking connection with the moon, trees, rivers, and the sun.
I used to think that I needed to involve nature in my life more but later realized that it’s me who needs to be a part of nature.
It might be hard to be out in the open all the time, but easily possible to do at least one activity that lets you become a part of nature.
Catch the sunrise or the sunset, go for walks, read under the tree, do outdoor seasonal activities, and murmur thanks before sipping your water.
Walk on the cool grass in your backyard, do stargazing at night, grow a plant, and be happy as a kid when it rains.
Above all, be grateful for all things nature, for it is a blessing to be in a world where there is greenery and rushing water to heal our minds and bodies.
7. Surround Yourself With Books
For a brief period, I was into ebooks and digital content, and it didn’t make me anywhere as happy as paperbacks do.
Books carry a feeling of enlightenment and companionship.
They’re powerful enough that if you just keep a few of them on your nightstand drawer or the table, your room will feel as if it’s been transported to a magical realm.
Every month, buy at least two books and keep them somewhere visible.
During your free time, read instead of turning to your phone. Pick genres that suit your mood and call out to you during your current phase.
You might also want to carry a book with you whenever you step out, even if you’re going someplace you won’t be reading.
It’s a classic Rory Gilmore move, one that will make you feel unique and pretty on the inside.

I used to shy away from using artificial scents as I thought they would be an unnatural addition to my life.
I got a body mist to check out what the hype was about, and oh boy, was I missing out or what.
Exposing yourself to good scents can be game-changing for your mood.
You might not have the time to sit in a flower garden every day, but you can sure bring the aroma with you.
Hang scented sashes in your car, bathroom, wardrobe, and drawers.
Light a scented candle in the evening when you get home, buy fresh flowers, and use a reed diffuser with your favorite essential oils for a pleasant-smelling air.
And of course, spritz some perfume on your pulse points after showering to smell good all day, for no one else but yourself.
9. Curate Your Online World
If you spend even a minute of your day online, you need to ensure that the content you receive is positive for your soul.
For this, you need to curate your online life and all the content you receive through it.
Start by unfollowing the people you are not in touch with and also those whose profiles make you uneasy. This would also include influencers and celebrities.
There’s nothing personal here, it’s just your way of letting go of ideas that don’t resonate with you positively.
Next up, be mindful of the kind of content you interact with.
Don’t like or comment on just anything. Watch reels and absorb ideas that inspire you to go places or make your life better.
For example, I mostly use YouTube, and every single channel I follow reflects my core values and the things I’d like to work on.
I watch healthy cooking videos, travel vlogs, wellness influencers who I find relatable and realistic. Whenever I open YouTube, my senses are exposed to feel-good ideas that make me feel amazing.
This is what being online should do to you. So, make efforts to beautify your online world.

10. Give Yourself Personal Goals And Projects
We often spend our days living for others, be it as a partner, an employee, or a student devoted to their education.
These roles are a part of your identity, no doubt, but they are not all that you are about.
Everyone needs personal goals, projects, and challenges for their self-worth and to experience a sense of accomplishment.
Imagine the excitement of setting goals and achieving them, and think how empowering it will be to always be working on something that is just for you.
Start by identifying what area of life you want to see improvement in.
It could be that you want to improve your mental health, work on your fitness, or be spiritually more awakened.
Here are some ideas you can take inspiration from:
- Take a 7- day glow up challenge
- Start a blog
- Try any latest wellness trend (like the 75-day hard challenge)
- Make a vision board for the year

- Create a new bucket list every month and tick it off in time

Once everything is in order, make organizing a weekly ritual, because things tend to get messy unless we pay attention to them.
And again, you can and should romanticize your cleaning and organizing routines.
Play music, wear a well-worn dress to feel like a lady, tune into a podcast, and dance around as you do your cleaning.
Sounds too glamorous? Well, that’s what you call romanticizing the heck out of life. It’s fun, and you are worthy of it.
12. Have A Relaxing Bedtime Routine
Imagine crashing on your bed with a troubled mind versus indulging in all these rituals before going to sleep.
The difference in the vibes of the two pictures speak for themselves.
After spending your day working, finishing your chores, or just being, your body and mind need a series of rituals to wind down.
Create a cozy bedtime routine that helps you relax, and do it every night without fail.
Take a warm shower with nice-smelling products, wear your comfiest clothes, do your skincare routine with intention, and make yourself some herbal tea before getting into bed.
This would be a good time to check your phone one last time, maybe listen to a song or two, before turning it on silent mode.
Read a cozy book that won’t keep you hooked as you sip your tea.
You can also journal if you feel like it, shuffle some affirmation cards to draw out positivity, and write in your gratitude journal to close your night on a good note.
