This post is all about summer hobbies that will make this season unique and special for you.
Summer is well upon us, and while I am busy scowling at the sun during this time (a winter child lover here), I have made it a point to romanticize this season and enjoy it as much as I can.
Flavored drinks, fancy shower products, flowy dresses — I’ve got it all covered.
But the thing I’m enjoying the most is filling my time with summer-specific hobbies.
Hobbies aren’t just for kids, you know.
The older you get, the more important it becomes to stay in touch with your fun and free-spirited self.
Otherwise, it can be all too easy to get lost in things that you won’t even remember years down the road.
Since the days are longer during summer, it’s the perfect time for you to step away from the everyday hustle, rediscover your passions, and try something different while soaking in the sun.
In this post, we’ll explore 15 delightful summer hobbies to fill your free time with happiness and feel-good energies.
If you’re up for spending your summer doing things that make your heart sing, then read on!
15 Summer Hobbies For A Fun-Filled Season
1. Go Biking Through Your Local Areas
Riding a bicycle is what I consider the ultimate fun workout. You get to go places while ticking off your cardio needs.
It’s also an awesome way to connect with your inner kid.
Pull out your old bike from the garage this summer, or get yourself a new one!
You can take it out for a spin during the cool mornings or the warm evenings.
2. Experiment With Different Smoothies
Building good habits for your health is usually boring during the initial days, but for some reason, it’s easier during the summer.
I give the credit for this to the hydration needs during this season.
You actually want to chug down water, juices, and oh, my favorite — smoothies!
I was never talented at making smoothies, but this year, I was determined to get them right.
I even got myself a portable blender that I’ve been carrying while traveling.
So far, I’ve perfected mango yogurt, strawberry, and banana chocolate smoothies.
This hobby will get you going for your summer fitness routine like nothing else, because, hello — fruits and veggies in a glass, what else do you need?
3. Read Vacation And Summer-Themed Books
Reading is something I do all year round, but it saves me from going insane on those boring long summer days.
If reading thrills you even the tiniest bit, buy a horde of paperbacks and create a reading list for this season.
Fill yourself up with feel-good romance novels that scream summer and vacation.
Thriller and mystery would be great options for nighttime reading.
Here are a few of my recommendations:
- This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune
- Just For The Summer by Abby Jiminez (my new favorite author)
- It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey
- The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager (the best thriller I’ve read to date)
4. Grow A Fairy Garden
For people who are fascinated with green enchanted forests, building a fairy garden would be a cute summer hobby.
It would like growing magic in your backyard or your balcony.
You’ll need potting soil, small plants (like moss, succulents, and tiny ferns), and an assortment of miniature fairy garden figurines.
Here are my recs:
You can also make your own fairy garden accessories. Use twigs to create tiny fences, acorn caps for fairy hats, or seashells for decoration.
The possibilities are endless here, and that’s what makes this so imaginative and fun.
A mini one like this would also be a fun weekend project:
5. Indulge In A Long Bath Care Routine
After a long day of being out in the sun, it’s impossible to return home without sweat and dirt on your body.
Instead of taking a quick shower, indulge in a long bath care routine.
Wash your hair, put a hair mask, exfoliate your skin, and shave your legs before soaking in the tub.
Go fancy and draw some bubbles, throw in a few rose petals, and drop in a bath bomb.
You can light a scented candle, listen to music, or read a book in there.
Hygiene, self-care, and pampering all in one go!
6. Join A Pottery Class
Pottery is the perfect blend of creativity and mindfulness.
I tried it in summer camp when I was a kid. My tiny hands were only able to create wonky figures, haha, but it felt so good!
I knew I’d want to try it again someday, and guess what, I’m joining a class this summer!
If you like the idea of creating mugs and pots out of clay, through a process that’s surprisingly therapeutic instead of being dirty, then sign up for a local pottery class.
You’ll end up with beautiful and handmade pieces, along with a weekend hobby that you might want to keep for life.
7. Make Your Own Dresses
If you’ve ever thought about playing with threads and sewing machines, then summer is just the season to turn this interest into a hobby.
Just think about all the pretty dresses you could make for yourself.
Everything you create will be unique and reflect your style and personality.
Granted, this isn’t an easy hobby on this list. But if you start now, you could be an expert at making dresses by the next summer.
For women who love wearing dresses (like myself), learning the skills would be totally worth it.
8. Learn To Crochet Handbags
Dress-making too hard to add to your list? I can guarantee you that crocheting is not.
Even though this activity is something that people pick up during winter to make scarves and gloves, you can also make handbags with it.
You’ll find the tutorials for it on YouTube and will be able to start creating stuff just within three days (no kidding).

9. Take Chloe Ting’s Summer Shred Challenge
If you don’t know her, Chloe Ting is a fitness influencer famous for her workout programs.
She launches new workout challenges every year, and her Summer Shred series is insanely popular.
This year’s Summer Shred challenge is of 26 days, and I’m on Day 15 currently.
You can find it on her website. Make an account, start the challenge, and you get to keep track of your progress too.
This is my third year doing this challenge and let me tell you it’s absolutely amazing.
The workouts are tailored well and you get plenty of rest and recovery days. Perfect to stay fit during months when it’s too hot to step outside.
10. Give Yourself Spa Treatments At Home
This summer, make it a point to give yourself home spa treatments at least once a week.
It’s such a classy way to get into your that girl zone.
Massage your head with some oil, wash it after an hour, and apply a hair mask in place of a conditioner.
Pamper yourself with face masks, mani-pedi, and proper moisturizing. And don’t forget to go for a DIY facial every 2-3 weeks.
It would be a nice way to relax and keep your skin glowing during the harsh summer months.
P.S: Please only use products and ingredients that you trust and know is suitable for your skin.
If you have sensitive skin, be extra careful and keep the products to a minimum.
11. Go For Brisk Walks
Gyms and indoor workouts have their own place, but nothing can beat a brisk walk outdoors.
It’s cheap, stress-relieving, and an awesome cardio for your body.
Make time in the morning or evening to head outdoors for a brisk walk in nature.
Stay tuned into a feel-good podcast to avoid getting bored.
This could end up becoming your favorite daily me-time activity for summer.

12. Learn The Guitar Or The Ukulele
Summer is a great time to pick up a string instrument and master it as much as you can before the chilly weather starts settling in.
The guitar and the ukulele are both fantastic options, with the latter being easier to learn (speaking from experience).
There are a ton of tutorials for both these instruments online.
It might seem hard initially, but just a month’s practice is enough to master a basic strumming pattern, on which you can cover many of your favorite songs.
Picture serenading your friends at the next barbecue. Would be cool, right?
13. Explore Photography
Summer provides the perfect lighting and scenery for photography.
Freshly cut grass, clear blue sky with the sun shining brightly, and flowers in full bloom. Beauty is everywhere.
If you have a professional camera, then great!
If you don’t, use your phone and click pictures of nature, your lemonade, and moments with friends and family.
Your Insta profile will be so bright and pretty!
14. Head Outside For Yoga
When the sun is shining and the air is warm, it’s the perfect time to take your fitness routine outside.
And when it comes to outdoor summer workouts that feed both the mind and the body, yoga rules the game.
Won’t it be lovely to start your day with a sunrise yoga session on the terrace? Or feel the evening breeze while stretching in the park?
I admit a certain level of consciousness can creep in while doing this, but maybe that can be another challenge for you this summer.
Get yourself to step outside your comfort zone and polish your confidence by taking yoga outside.
A month into it, you won’t even care who’s looking.
15. Creative Writing
Despite summer being my least fav season of the year (don’t sue me, please), I can’t deny that my creativity is at an all-time high at this time.
Might be the vibrant colors, warm breezes, and thrumming energies that the season comes with.
If your hands have ever tingled to play with words, then don your writer’s hat this summer.
You can pen down poetry, short stories, journal entries, or start your own blog (coz, why not).
Write in a quiet and comfortable place where you can focus. It could be a cozy corner of your home, a park bench, or a local café.

This blog on summer hobbies was such an interesting read! I couldn’t stop myself from resonating with so many of the activities you’ve mentioned. Here are some of my thoughts written in order :-
I absolutely love biking with my dad through our local areas. It’s a great way to explore and bond while staying active.
I’m a big fan of experimenting with different smoothies too. I’ve mastered making Oreo and KitKat smoothies, and they’re always a hit at home. Maybe I’ll try some of the recipes you mentioned next!
Except for “The Last Time I Lied,” I’ve read the other 3 books you’ve mentioned. They were all fantastic reads, and I’ll definitely add the 4th one to my list.
If those pictures of the fairy garden are yours, then they’re probably one of the best I’ve seen yet. It’s absolutely enchanting.
Just had a funny incident recently where I lit a scented candle, and my dad refused to come out of the bathroom because he loved the scent so much! It’s amazing how small things can create such funny moments.
I’ll be joining pottery class next year as this year, I’ve already joined an Origami class, and it’s been fun too. It’s always exciting to learn new crafts.
Making own dresses sounds like a fantastic idea. They also boost self confidence as they are our own creations.
Btw I’ll definitely give a try to crocheting as well, thanks to your suggestion. It seems like a relaxing and rewarding hobby.
I’m already on Day 18 of Chloe Ting’s summer shred challenge. It’s been intense but totally worth it. See you at the finish line Akansha !
During the COVID lockdown, I used to give myself spa treatments at home. It was a great way to relax and take care of myself.
I also go for evening brisk walks. It’s a perfect way to end the day with a mesmerizing dusk view and a clear mind.
Already know how to play guitar, and learning the ukulele seems like an interesting idea. I might just pick one up soon!
Literally, I can’t live without photography. Capturing moments and beautiful scenes is a passion of mine.
Usually do cardio, but I’ll give yoga a chance as well. It seems like a great way to add variety to my fitness routine.
I never forget to do creative writing in the form of journaling. It’s a great way to reflect and keep track of my thoughts and experiences.
Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful hobby ideas. Keep producing such genuine blogs 😉

Hi! Thank you so much for showing me a glimpse into your world. Appreciate it a lot.
Those fairy garden pictures aren’t mine, I’m still working on mine. And hey, high five on doing the Summer Shred Challenge. Hope you finish off strong and happy.
It’s awesome that you’re already doing so many of the things listed here. Hope you get to try the other stuff soon. It’s the quality that matters more though, and it’s clear to me that you’re already living by that.
Once again, thanks for reaching out!
