The end of the month might not be as auspicious as the start of a new one, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important.
In fact, whenever I tweak my end-of-month routine to align with wellness and productivity, the coming month becomes ten times better.
Sure, the end of the month is not everyone’s favorite time. You’re on a tight budget, sulking about goals you couldn’t finish, and also waiting for the new month to just begin already.
But trust me, there are some small things you can do to make your end of the month exciting, relaxing, and organized at the same time without going bananas over the goals you couldn’t achieve this month.
Take a quick second to pin this post. Sharing is caring!
Do these 5 things at the end of each month and make way for a better month ahead.
5 Things To Do At The End Of Each Month
1. Do A Monthly Review
Doing a monthly review is a golden hack to improve the overall structure of your life.
If you had an accomplishment this last month, praise yourself for it, then quickly examine why you were able to succeed.
What habits helped you finish your targets, and which ones held you back from being your best self? Make a bullet list for a clearer assessment.
It might look something like this:
I usually create a manual list in my journal to be able to reflect back on it later.
But after a particularly exciting and happening month, I might print out this review template, fill it up, and stick it in my journal. Feel free to do the same.
A monthly review will hardly take you 10 minutes, but it’ll act as your mini guide for the coming month.
Reflections help you hold yourself accountable for the future and also nudge you to face your inner self with strength instead of avoiding your mistakes.
I try to not take my disappointments personally. It would never do you any good to berate yourself over the monthly resolutions you couldn’t finish.
So, be kind to yourself during your monthly reviews and motivate yourself to start fresh.

2. Set Down Your Intentions For The New Month
We all know that there is a ton of difference between setting goals and actually achieving them. I struggled with this for a long time before finally realizing what was missing i.e., intentions.
If you’re not intentional about your goals, it can be hard to take action. You end up relying on inspiration instead of discipline to keep going in life.
At the start of every month, we all are full of energy and motivation to make the coming thirty days super productive.
But this energy runs out in the first week and we end up doing not much.
The reason? We don’t take the time to actually set intentions, and that needs to change right now.
Grab a notepad or your pretty journal and write down why you want to work on a particular goal. For example, if you want to work on your body wellness, then write down why you want to do it.
It might go something like, ‘I want to be healthier to gain more confidence, be happier, and be respectful toward my body.’
I know this might be new for a lot of you, but trust me, being intentional can be game-changing. The difference is similar to running a race without any purpose versus running it knowing why you want to win.
You don’t have to come up with strategies for your monthly goals yet. Leave that part for the next month.
For now, you need to straighten out your intentions so that your future goals have a strong foundation to stand upon.

3. Check In With Yourself
Is it ever okay to move on to a new phase in life without checking in with yourself first? I say not.
Your brain is a beautiful being but is just as prone to catching negative thoughts and burying them deep. It’s your responsibility to be regular with your monthly mental check-ins.
Ask yourself how you’re doing. Was last month particularly hard? Were you able to prioritize your mental health? Going forward, how can you be more mindful of your emotions?
These questions might seem ineffective at first glance, but if you were to voice them out loud right this second, I bet you they’ll hit a spot.
In today’s world, it’s become very important to be a friend to yourself. Gone are the days when tough love and stressful thoughts were deemed ‘motivating.’
We are in the age of wellness, and that means you need to look after yourself the way you would a loved one. Doing an end-of-month mental check-in would be a good start.
My recommended strategy for this is to create a heartfelt journal entry.
Reflect back on your previous month just like we did in the monthly reviewing part, except your mental well-being will be the main topic of your entry.
If possible, do a mental detox. Turn off your phone, find a quiet spot in your house, and meditate for a few minutes until all the noise in your brain dissipates.

4. Pamper Yourself With A Self-Care Session
Lately, I’ve been loving wrapping up my weeks and months by indulging in self-care.
Even my bedtime has become all about night self-care, which helps me put my thoughts to bed as well as prepare my mind for the coming day.
If you want to shake off your worries and welcome the new month on a happy note, then end your month with a soothing self-care session.
Take a long bath using your best bath products. Don’t shy away from romanticizing your experience by playing music and lighting scented candles. You deserve nothing but pleasant vibes.
Pamper your skin with a hydrating sheet mask, paint your nails, and sip a cup of tea while reading in bed.
If watching a movie or show floats your boat, then turn into a couch potato and binge-watch the TV.
Reserve your self-care session for the weekend so that you don’t rush through it, but hey, if you end up doing it more than once, nobody would be happier than me.
You can and you should, indulge in self-care as often as you like.

5. Go Out For A Cheap Solo Date
Many people balk at the idea of stepping outside at the end of the month. Tight pockets and clubbing don’t exactly go hand in hand.
But what if you could have a fun outing without burning a hole in your pocket? Wouldn’t you rather end your month on a splendid note rather than feeling broke and empty?
You need to do just two things to make this happen – Your own company, and some cool ideas for an affordable solo date.
Why go solo, you ask? Because it’s hard to resist throwing down the money you can’t spare when you’re in a group.
It’s the effect of being high in the company of other people, which is great and all, but let’s reserve that kind of fun for some other time.
When the end of the month is near, you’re on your own, kid (Swifties, please give me a virtual five. I nailed that one.)
Here are some cool things to do at the end of the month for your solo day/night out:
Pack a picnic basket and go to a park, enjoy a cup of coffee at your favorite cafe, visit a museum, or eat some ice cream on the sidewalk as you people-watch.
