9 Cozy Morning Tips For Winter
1. Wake Up Gently
To start your day with warmth and ease, set your alarm clock a bit earlier than necessary so that you can wake up gradually without feeling rushed.
Your winter mornings should always start on a slow and cozy note.
Consider investing in a programmable thermostat so that your room is comfortably warm when you wake up.
Also, place your alarm clock or smartphone at a distance from your bed to force you to get out from under the cozy covers to turn it off.
Pull the curtains to embrace the natural light filtering in through the windows.
I know most of you would prefer to save your workouts for the evenings in winter, but consider incorporating just a few minutes of gentle stretching to ease into the day feeling relaxed and ready to face the winter chill.
2. Hydrate Yourself
I’m surely not the first one to remind you to hydrate yourself in the morning, and I won’t be the last either.
Morning hydration is super important to flush the toxins from your system that get accumulated overnight.
People often forgo their hydration goals by the end of the year (especially once the temperature drops significantly), but your body needs water to thrive.
Proper hydration will keep your gut healthy, make your skin glow, and help you stay calm and composed.
So, start your day with a glass of warm water to hydrate and refresh your body. You can even squeeze in a few drops of lemon to create a strong morning detox drink.
Take slow and mindful sips while sitting in a comfortable spot, and breathe for a few minutes before moving on to the next part of your winter morning routine.

3. Tidy Up Or Take A Warm Shower
If it’s shower day and you don’t have any sweaty tasks waiting ahead, you can take a warm and invigorating shower to awaken your senses and combat the cold.
I wouldn’t suggest taking a shower every day in winter, but on mornings when you are feeling sore or tired, it’d be a good way to relax your body before facing your day ahead.
But if it shower is a no-go in the winter mornings for you, then take a few minutes to tidy up.
Wash your face with lukewarm water (or cold, if you’re feeling exceptionally bold), and don’t forget to brush your teeth.
Put on a hydrating moisturizer, roll on a lip balm to protect your smile, and brush your hair before tying it in a cute pony.
Cleaning up and getting ready in the morning will help you step into your girl boss mode and feel better prepared for the day to come.
4. Dress in Cozy Attire
Embrace the feel-good winter vibes by putting on your favorite winter clothes, like soft sweaters or cardigans, flannel pajamas or leggings, and thermal socks.
One of my favorite parts about winter is getting to wear fuzzy sweaters that swallow me whole. I also don’t let a day pass by without wearing a scarf, even if I’m staying at home.
I don’t what it is about all the comfy and warm clothes, but they make me feel very pretty and cozy. Gosh, I love winters (seriously can’t say it enough.)

5. Have A Fulfilling Breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, as I’m sure you all know.
It is the one part of your meal plan that should be given top priority, regardless of the season.
But during the cold months, it’s even more essential to fuel your body with foods that provide warmth and sustained energy.
Opt for a warm and comforting breakfast like a bowl of oatmeal topped with cinnamon, honey, and sliced bananas.
You can also go for a steaming bowl of creamy porridge or grits. These grains are not only satisfying but also packed with fiber to keep you full until lunchtime.
If you prefer a savory breakfast, a bowl of hot, homemade soup can be a unique and satisfying choice.
Or you can indulge in a classic eggs and toast combo, with a side of sautéed spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes for a nutritious touch.
Take a hot beverage like herbal tea, coffee, or hot cocoa, and enjoy your healthy breakfast in bed.
6. Plan Your Day
I’ve seen that when I start my days with a solid plan, I tick off most of my tasks in time and am more productive throughout the day.
As Benjamin Franklin says, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
Take a few minutes to write down your goals and to-do list for the day.
You don’t have to do any major scheduling. Just get those plans out of your head onto the paper, and help yourself stay more organized and focused.
To avoid burnout, Keep your daily goals short and realistic and avoid taking on more than you can handle.

7. Embrace Hygge
Time to reveal my most cherished winter morning ritual – Embracing hygge!
Hygge is a Danish term that encompasses a feeling of coziness, contentment, and comfort.
It is about creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, often associated with the cold and dark winter months in Denmark.
Add simple pleasures to your winter morning routine to embrace the concept of hygge.
Surround yourself with soft blankets, cushions, and the things that make you feel content. Make time to read while sipping your favorite tea.
Light some candles or use soft, warm lighting to create a cozy atmosphere in your living space.
If you have a fireplace, light it up, or use a space heater to stay warm and toasty throughout the morning.
Create a playlist of your favorite winter tunes to enhance the good vibes of your home and soothe your senses with music.
8. Work or Productivity Time
For a couple of months now, I’ve made it a habit to get my most challenging task out of the way in the morning, and it’s really simplified my routine life.
Even if you don’t want to start your day with a difficult task, do at least one productive thing while you’re still in your morning bliss.
It’s an amazing way to step into your work mode without feeling stressed and to make yourself realize that work doesn’t always have to equal worry or anxiety.
Make your workspace comfortable and inviting by putting up fairy lights, cushions, and a cozy lamp till the end of winter. Enjoy your morning productivity time!

9. Stay Mindful
There is no point in having a routine if you aren’t fully present in the moment.
Any cozy moment or wellness ritual becomes more beautiful when you do it with utmost mindfulness (the art of being aware of your surroundings and the present.)
Incorporate mindfulness into your winter morning routine to appreciate the small moments of warmth and comfort.
Here are some simple things you can do to practice morning mindfulness:
- Write in your journal
- Read affirmations
- Make a short list of things you are grateful for
- Meditate for a few minutes
- Try yoga to bring your awareness to the present

I enjoyed reading the article. It was very helpful. I listen to classical music and read a good book. Put in my slipper socks to keep my feet warm. That’s what I do in the afternoon, or at night in the winter.

Thank you, Shirley. Classical music with book sounds lovely, and I am also all about slipper socks during the winter. Just got a blue pair with white fluffy stuffings. The moment I put them on, I feel like I’ve done something great for myself. Self-care really does come in small packages sometimes.
