I was never much for keeping track of my habits and always went by life in a flowy manner.
But then my career kickstarted, wellness became a priority, and I had about a dozen small goals that I wanted to meet but couldn’t keep up with.
Setting goals in your mind and vowing to stick to your good habits is simple, but actually seeing your plans through till the end is a bit of a challenge.
Let’s say you get a new plant because a friend told you caring for one will make you more responsible.
You might feel inspired to water it on Day 1, and might even step into your garden with a smile on Day 2. But on Day 3, sleep past your morning time and forget about the green thingie waiting for you in the garden.
On Day 4, you somehow remember to water it, but the next day you are a no-show (again.) On Day 6, someone from your family steps in to take charge of the dying plant you so lovingly brought home.
Mm, there’s a good chance that story might be mine, but I bet you can relate to the feeling of abandoning a habit that hasn’t even had time to become a solid habit yet.
That’s where the magic of habit tracking comes in. It’s a simple way to stay accountable regarding your habits and stick to them long-term.
How To Track Your Habits
There are many creative ways to track your habits, but here are three habit-tracking ideas that I’ve seen people use the most:
1. Daily Checklist
The simplest way to track your habits is to make a checklist every morning, and add all the little things you want to get done by night.
If you prefer sticking to a few good habits at a time (which I think is smart and works well), you can go for the checklist method.
You’d need to create the same list every morning, but surprisingly, that doesn’t become boring at all. You’d instead find yourself loving this part of your morning routine. It’ll become a ritual on its own and give you a productive start to the day.

2. On Your Phone
If writing down a to-do list isn’t fun for you, then use your phone to track your habits. The good old notepad will work just fine for this.
Your phone might even have a to-do list function installed. You can cross off each habit as you get it done.
The satisfaction of having a completely crossed-off list at the end of the day is truly amazing.
3. Bullet Journal
Bullet journaling is the most popular method of habit-tracking. The beauty of a bullet journal is that you can use it in any way you want, which would make the task of habit-tracking super fun and productive.
At the start of the month, you map out tiny calendars in your journal, each one to track a different habit. Then all you have to do is put circles over the days as you get your habits done. Easy peasy.
