Here are 25 solo date ideas that make spending time by yourself fun and relaxing.

Growing up, solo dating (or even spending time by myself on purpose) wasn’t something we were ever taught.
If you wanted to go somewhere nice, you waited for friends. If you wanted to try a cute cafe, you hoped someone else wanted to come.
And if you wanted to watch a movie, take a trip, or celebrate something, it almost always involved another person.
Being alone wasn’t presented as something to enjoy. It was just what happened when everyone else was busy.
But now, I just can’t imagine my life without solo dates. Some of my happiest memories involve nobody else but me.
Having solo dates has made my life a hundred times better, and it can do the same for anyone who’s open to trying.
Solo dates teach you to genuinely enjoy your own company. So, you stop expecting other people to create happiness for you.
You become more curious, confident, and comfortable making decisions that actually feel right to you.
Solo dates also help you develop your own perspective on the world.
You learn what excites you, what calms you down, what inspires you, and what feels magical to you.
That’s why I genuinely believe every person should have solo dates, and that includes you, too.
Don’t do this to become fiercely independent or swear off relationships. Do this because you deserve to fall in love with your own life first.
Because, believe it or not, the best company you can have is yourself.
So if you’ve never taken yourself out before—or you’re looking for some fresh ideas that go beyond ‘grab a coffee’—here are some of my favorite solo date ideas that are definitely worth trying.
25 Solo Date Ideas You Must Try
1. Visit a bookstore and give yourself a tiny budget
I am starting with my all-time favorite solo date because it is equal parts peaceful and exciting.
Walk into a bookstore with one simple rule: you’re only allowed to spend a certain amount.
Then spend as much time as you want exploring.
Pick up books you’ve never heard of, read the first page, and wander into sections you’d normally skip.
Without another person beside you, you’ll naturally gravitate toward the topics that genuinely fascinate you, not what someone else recommends.
And if you leave with one book that makes you excited to read that night, I’d call that a successful date.
2. Have a perfect cafe afternoon
Sure, grabbing coffee alone is nice, but let’s make it better.
On a slow afternoon, visit a pretty little cafe nearby, and do some cozy rituals while you’re there.
Bring your journal, read a novel, and order the dessert you’ve been eyeing.
Watch the people around you for a few minutes, let the conversations floating around soothe you, and write down ideas that pop into your head.
I’ve had so many good blog ideas while sitting in a cafe.
Inspiration and good thoughts just come to you when you give yourself permission to slow down for an hour in a cozy spot.

3. Explore a botanical garden without rushing
Being surrounded by plants is healing for your whole system. That’s why I love visiting botanical gardens whenever I can, and you should too.
You can notice the flowers you’ve never seen before, read the little information plaques, and take photos of leaves that have interesting patterns.
When you’re back home, you can write down five things that caught your attention during the visit. It’s an activity both for the soul and the body.
4. Walk in a beautiful neighborhood
Instead of walking around your usual route, travel to a neighborhood you’ve always admired.
Maybe it’s full of charming little cottages, has tree-lined streets, or has balconies overflowing with flowers.
Give yourself a chance to soak in all the beauty by walking slowly.
Take pictures of houses that inspire you and imagine what it would feel like to live there one day.
Rather than looking at this as comparing your life to anyone else’s, think of like collecting inspiration.
And if you stumble across a hidden bakery, bookstore, or the prettiest park you’ve ever seen, that’ll be an added bonus.

5. Create your own museum challenge
Even if you aren’t someone who normally visits museums, this idea might pique your interest.
Before you go in, give yourself a mission to find five pieces that make you feel something.
It could be a painting that reminds you of your childhood, a sculpture that makes you curious, or an old photograph that tells a story you can’t stop thinking about.
This is how I’ve been getting myself interested in museums, because I feel like there’s so much to know about the world and myself there. It’s been amazing!
6. Have a pretty picnic
Don’t wait until someone asks you to go on a picnic. Be the person who plans one for yourself.
Pack your favorite snacks, fresh fruit, cheese, a sandwich, something sweet, and juice in a bottle.
Bring a blanket, a book, a cushion, and your headphones for some soft music.
And then head to a cozy spot to spend some time by yourself in nature. Your senses will just love this experience.

7. Find five beautiful things outside
Pick somewhere you’ve been dozens of times, and find five beautiful things that you’ve never noticed before.
It might be an old wooden gate covered in ivy, sunlight reflecting through stained glass, or a tiny flower growing through a crack in the sidewalk.
Take photos of each one. You’ll be amazed at how much beauty exists in places your brain usually filters out.
8. Visit an antique shop and invent stories for everything
I absolutely adore this idea because it feels like stepping into another lifetime.
Wander through an antique store or flea market. And instead of buying something, let your imagination take over.
Who do you think owned that vintage suitcase? What kind of letters were written with that fountain pen? Why does that old rocking chair look so loved?
Some objects have clearly lived entire lives before they found their way onto those shelves, and imagining their stories makes the experience really magical.
And you might also discover a quirky treasure to take home that has way more character than something brand new.

9. Shop for a signature scent for your home
This is such a cozy little solo date, especially if you’re in your cottagecore era, which, by the way, I really am these days.
You’ll need to visit a candle shop, an essential oil store, or a craft shop.
Smell everything, and figure out which scents make you feel happy.
Maybe you’ll discover that you’re obsessed with cedarwood, vanilla, fresh linen, or orange blossom.
Whatever scent you go for, buy a candle, room spray, and oils in that scent for your home.
Home should feel like a place you’re excited to come back to, and rituals like this help create that feeling.
10. Roam your city like a tourist
Pretend you’ve just landed in your city for the very first time, and then spend a day like a tourist!
Google ‘Top 10 things to do’ and actually do some of them.
Visit that famous monument you’ve driven past a hundred times, walk through the historic streets, and buy a souvenir if you feel like it.
Try food from a place that’s always packed with tourists and find out if it’s actually worth the hype.
It’s funny how we’ll travel halfway across the world to explore another city but rarely get curious about the one we already live in.

11. Take yourself on a sunrise breakfast date
Everyone talks about dinner dates, but breakfast dates aren’t talked about often enough.
Wake up before sunrise one weekend and head somewhere with a beautiful view.
It could be a quiet park, a lakeside bench, a rooftop cafe, or just your own balcony.
Bring coffee or pick up breakfast on the way, and enjoy the sunrise while the world is still waking up.
You’ll feel like you’ve been given extra hours that belong only to you, and they’ll be so beautiful.
12. Visit a plant nursery and adopt one plant with a name already picked out
This might sound oddly specific, but that’s exactly why it’s fun.
Before you leave your house, decide that today’s mission is to meet your new leafy roommate.
Walk around the nursery until one plant catches your eye, and then give it a name before you get home.
Just think how fun it would be to water a little fern named Olive or a pothos named Winston.
Caring for something living adds a softness to your life.
And every time you look at it, you’ll remember the lovely solo date that brought it into your life.

13. Have a ‘Yes Day’
When was the last time you let yourself be completely spontaneous? It’s been quite some time for me, I’ll admit, which is why this idea is perfect.
For this solo date, give yourself one simple rule: if something harmless sounds fun, say yes.
If you walk past an ice cream shop you’ve never tried, go in. If you see an art market, browse every stall.
If you notice a street musician playing, stay for one more song instead of rushing off. If you spot a tiny bakery that smells incredible, buy the pastry.
You get the gist, right? For just one day, your curiosity gets to be in charge. Fun and simple!
14. Build the ultimate snack board and have a movie night
Skip the usual bowl of popcorn, and make yourself an awesome snack board.
Add chocolates, fruit, crackers, cheeses, olives, popcorn, mini desserts — whatever feels like a treat to you.
Then light a candle, dim the lights, put your phone on silent, and watch a fun movie.
Snack board and movie night just might end up becoming your favorite combo once you try it.

15. Write postcards to your future self
Find a cute stationery shop and pick out a few postcards. Then take them to a quiet cafe or park and write one to yourself six months from now.
Tell yourself what you’re currently dreaming about, the habits you’re trying to build, and the little things making you happy lately.
Ask yourself questions that only ‘future you’ will be able to answer.
Then tuck the postcard into a journal or a memory box to read later. Years from now, you’ll treasure these tiny snapshots of who you were.
16. Create a signature walking playlist
Instead of throwing together random songs, spend an evening intentionally creating a playlist that feels like you.
Include songs that make you feel confident, songs that remind you of autumn, and songs that make you want to dance while walking home.
Add some that calm down your nervous system as well.
Then take your playlist out for its first walk asap.
Everything around you will feel ten times better because of the thoughtfully put-together songs playing in your ears.

17. Go on a seasonal shopping date and buy just one thing
We usually associate shopping with spending loads of money.
But I think it’s more special to go shopping for just one thing. You cherish and appreciate it more.
Go out to buy one thoughtful item that celebrates the season you’re currently living in.
In fall, you can buy a soft blanket. In spring, you can get a bouquet of fresh flowers.
During summer, you can buy a woven beach bag or a fruity perfume.
Around Christmas, it can perhaps be a beautiful ornament you’ll use every year.
It’s a beautiful way to romanticize each season instead of letting the months blur together.
18. Have a ‘dream life planning’ date outside
Leave your to-do list at home, because this date is not for your productivity. This solo date is about possibilities.
You just need to take your journal or your laptop (whichever one you prefer) somewhere peaceful and ask yourself questions you don’t think about enough.
- What kind of mornings do I want to wake up to?
- What would my dream apartment actually feel like?
- What hobbies do I secretly want to try?
- Where do I want to travel in the next five years?
- What kind of person am I becoming?
Don’t worry about whether your answers are realistic (seriously). Just let yourself dream without immediately editing those dreams.
The life we end up creating often starts with letting ourselves imagine it first. And that’s one of the greatest gifts solo dates can give you.

19. Take the first train or bus to somewhere you’ve never explored
I’m definitely not suggesting you disappear into the wilderness. Just pick a cute touristy town that you can get to by bus, and then go away.
Arrive with a loose idea of what you’d like to do and let curiosity lead the way.
You could discover a bakery that makes the best cinnamon rolls you’ve ever had. You could wander into a secondhand bookshop.
You could spend an hour sitting beside a river while munching on corn (don’t know why I thought of that, lol).
Basically, let the adventure happen without a strict itinerary telling you where to be next. It’ll be good for your soul.
20. Sign up for a one-day workshop
I find it empowering to walk into a room to learn something where I don’t know a single person. That’s what workshops are for.
You can try pottery, floral arranging, candle making, watercolor painting, or a tiramisu class.
Let yourself be a beginner and don’t try to become amazing at it.
Learning something new reminds you that life still has plenty of surprises left.
You might discover a new hobby or just leave with a fun story. Either way, it’s a win.

21. Take a themed photo walk
Most of us only take photos during vacations, but why? Your everyday life deserves to be remembered too.
A photo walk is an amazing way to remind yourself of this.
Choose one theme before you head out, like colorful doors, interesting shadows, flowers growing in unexpected places, or cozy little corners around your town.
When you get home, create an album just for those photos.
Months later, you’ll have a collection of ordinary moments that are actually quite beautiful.
22. Have a phone-free morning date with yourself
Instead of reaching for your phone the moment you wake up, spend the first two or three hours of your day completely offline.
Treat it as a cozy self-care morning date at home.
You can order a nice breakfast and coffee, read a few chapters of a book, do some stretches, and journal your thoughts.
And while you’re doing all this, remember this is how life is really meant to be lived, and carry this reminder with you into the day.

23. Visit a local farmers’ market and cook yourself a beautiful meal
Walk to the nearest local farmers’ market, and shop for fresh stuff.
Buy some green veggies, pick up homemade bread, grab flowers while you’re there, and treat yourself to local honey or handmade jam.
Then head home and create a meal using everything you found.
Cooking for yourself is one of the purest forms of self-care there is, and you can do it as often as you like.

24. Spend time building your dream life vision folder
I am not talking about a vision board, but a vision folder. It’s actually much easier to create, maintain, and use.
Create a folder on your laptop, tablet, or Pinterest account where you can collect inspiration for the life you’re building.
Save photos of cozy homes, interesting recipes, travel destinations, fun outfits, books you want to read, garden ideas, and, of course, career inspiration.
Unlike doom-scrolling, this kind of scrolling is actually intentional (and even life-changing).
You can even print out the pictures later and tuck them into an actual folder, which is a whole new solo date idea in itself.
25. Write yourself a love letter
I know this sounds a bit cheesy, but do it anyway.
We spend far more time criticizing ourselves than appreciating how far we’ve come.
You deserve loads of hugs from yourself, and writing a self-love letter is a perfect way to do that.
Thank yourself for showing up, for surviving difficult seasons, and for trying again after failure.
Thank yourself for becoming the kind of person who takes herself out on dates instead of waiting for someone else to make life interesting.
One day, you’ll read that letter again, and you’ll smile fondly at your past self.
Read This Before You Go
Don’t wait until you have a partner, a bigger friend group, more money, or the perfect circumstances before you start creating beautiful memories.
It doesn’t matter if you have loads of people in your life or not.
You still need to give yourself the joy of your own company, because nobody else can do for you what you can.
Get dressed up, take yourself out, order dessert, and watch sunsets by yourself.
Learn new things, explore places you’ve never been, and spend cozy time in your house so that you love being in your space.
The relationship you have with yourself actually defines every other relationship in your life.
When you know how to enjoy your own company, loneliness becomes much less frightening.
When you know how to create your own happiness, you’re less likely to settle for people or situations that don’t add to your life.
And when you fall in love with your own life first, every relationship you build after that becomes something you choose, not something you desperately need.
So this week, put one solo date from this list on your calendar, and then do it with joy!
Hope you have a great first date with yourself.
