If you’ve been reading my blogs for some time, you’d know that I am a sucker for habits and routines.
Regardless of whether you are a go-with-the-flow kind of soul or an organized person, routines can help you strike a healthy balance between all the areas of life.
Routines provide structure and organization to our lives, leading to numerous benefits for our physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
I am most productive and sane on days when I am running on a routine. It’s like running on autopilot while still being in command of my life (if that makes any sense.)
Also, my mental health seems to favor routines and structure, which is one of the top reasons why I stand by the importance of being in a routine.
Importance Of A Daily Routine
I have a feeling you’re already aware of the importance of being on a routine, but it doesn’t hurt to spell things out in plain words.
Sometimes, you need to rehash the most basic benefits of a good habit to make your brain take an active interest in it.
Here are some of the golden benefits of following a daily routine:
- More productivity (well, duh)
- Better time management
- Improved sleep quality
- Enhanced focus
- Good work-life balance
- Less stress and anxiety
- Self-control and self-discipline
- A sense of accomplishment (which is well-deserved)

The routine I am about to share with you is my favorite one so far.
This is the schedule I follow most days to keep up with my health, this blog, and make time for my wonderfully crazy family.
The best thing about it is that it is super easy to stick to and doesn’t require you to micro-manage your hours.
Seriously, if I could marry this routine and keep it with me for the rest of my life, I would.

Best Daily Routine For Healthy Life
1. Wake up early
The sooner you start your day, the better you’ll be able to manage your time. I oscillate between having a 5am morning routine to 7am, but nothing past that.
Getting up early is supposed to be the most natural and healthiest thing for your body (yes, even if you’re not a morning person.)
You’d need to fix your bedtime habits for this, of course, which I’m going to talk more about at the end of this post.

2. Do Your Morning Routine
Even if you decide to pass on my advice to wake up early and decide to set your alarm to 9 o’clock, you’re still going to need a morning routine.
I mean, there are days when I roll out of bed in the afternoon (not my finest moments, I’ll admit), but as long as I stick with my morning routine, I feel like all is right in the world.
Here are some healthy ideas for your morning routine:
- Grab a glass of water to hydrate your body.
- Wash your face and make yourself presentable (for yourself).
- Do a home workout or hit the gym.
- Go outside for a walk or a jog.
- Take a shower to start your day on a fresh note.
- Write something in your journal while sipping your tea or coffee.
- Read one page of a self-help book.
- Check the news headlines (optional as not everybody likes this).
This is the part of my routine where I do my workout. I like getting it out of the day before the day starts.
It also makes me feel like wonder woman in the morning, which is a strong note to start my day on.
3. Plan Your Day And Get Ready
If you’re more of a free-flowing bird who doesn’t like scheduling,
I wouldn’t want to get in your way, but can I at least suggest you get a daily planner and give that thing a geniune try?
I swear it will make your routine life very easy and manageable.
For some of my more organized readers, a daily planner might not pass muster. In that case, you might want to hop onto Google Calendars in the morning for your daily scheduling.
It’ll let you set up reminders, write down notes, and use color codes to map out your schedule for the day.
Once you’re done planning, get ready (shower, put on your clothes, take care of your skin), and head over to the kitchen.
4. Have A Healthy And Fulfilling Breakfast
Morning hours, a protein-rich meal with some juice, and you sitting in a nice spot of the house. Need I say more?
If there was a list of the top 5 healthiest habits for your overall well-being, a good breakfast would be listed right at the top.
Your body, mind, soul – all parts of you need good food to function well. And as you already know, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
As long as I get my breakfast right, I can count on my body to guide me toward healthier food habits throughout the day.
I am able to enjoy my evening cookies happily knowing that I’ve already consumed my healthiest portions for the day in the morning.

5. Work Till Noon
If you’re an office-going person, your routine will move forward on its own from here.
But here’s a nugget of advice for you – Practice mindfulness and follow happy rituals to enjoy your working hours.
Tune into a podcast while commuting, use a timer to set working intervals, and give yourself short breaks in between.
For those of you who work from home, you need to discipline yourself to move to your desk or get started with your household chores by 9 or 10 am.
You should aim to get your most challenging tasks out of the way before the afternoon slump hits you. For example, I do my content writing during this period because my brain is energized.
On my organizing and cleaning days, I get my cleaning done before noon and leave the laundry for the evening (as it’s something I personally find easy.)
Once you’re past the 1 pm mark, you can head to lunch.
6. Take A Lunch Break
Just like breakfasts, skipping lunch is not an option either, though I will advise you to keep it lighter than your morning meal.
I prefer eating less than the amount that would make me full since I know I’ll be getting back to work soon afterward. A heavy lunch will cause grogginess and affect your work performance.

7. Do A Happy Mid-Day Ritual
This one tweak to my daily routine has made my work life colorful.
After working for 4-5 hours straight, you need a short mental break, and what better way to do that than to do something happy?
You can read one chapter of a book, stroll for 5 minutes while listening to music, or enjoy a cup of coffee while sitting outdoors.
For homeworking peeps, a nap wouldn’t be a bad idea if it makes you feel fresh (it doesn’t work well for me as I feel lazy and cranky afterward.)
8. Back To Work
During my evening work hours, I prefer to focus on lighter tasks that don’t require much of my attention. This might work out good for you as well.
You can grab your evening coffee around 4 pm for a good boost before you shut down your work for the day.
I like to grab two cookies with black tea at this time. Tastes extra delicious after putting in those smart hours into my work.

9. Turn On Your Comfort Mode
After wrapping up your work, do something that helps you turn on your ‘comfort’ mode.
You don’t want to carry your stress from work home. That would just mess up your work-life balance and interfere with your personal life.
Here are some things that might help:
- Stop at a cafe on your way home.
- Take a shower.
- Put on your comfy home clothes.
- Call up a friend for some chitchat.
- Do a cardio workout to shake it off.
- Try yoga to calm your mind.
- Meet a friend.
- Do some meditation.
- Lounge on your couch with a chill drink in hand.
- Practice gratitude (hey, it really help).

10. Make Time For A Hobby
A hobby?! What you talking about, woman? I got no time for hobbies.
Yes, you do, my friend.
I am not asking you to carve out two hours of your precious time and turn into a midnight painter.
Just give yourself 15-20 minutes to connect to a hobby and tune into your inner joy.
Hobbies work like therapy, and best thing is that they are super cheap to invest in. You can play your guitar, do some gardening, read a book, or work on a DIY project.
Your hobby time will bring you happiness and help you let go of thoughts that don’t matter in the long run.

11. Have A Delicious Dinner
They say you should eat your breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.
I think this is sound advice, from a health perspective, but I’ll be honest here – Light dinners have not been cutting it for me lately.
I love ending my days with dinners that fill my soul and satisfy my gut at the same time. So, I just try to strike a good balance between healthy and fulfilling.
The only thing you would need to avoid here is overeating, as that would lead to discomfort at night and cause you a restless sleep.
Otherwise, just enjoy your dinner while watching a good sitcom (or keep it quiet if you want to practice mindful eating.)
You deserve to leave your dining table feeling immensely satisfied and happy.
12. Bedtime Self-Care
I can’t believe there was a time when I went straight to bed without doing anything about self-care. Like, how did I even sleep?
Daily self-care is so important for your well-being. It’s your time to put life on pause and tune inward to take care of your most basic needs.
And I’ve found bedtime to be the most suitable time for it. Your day is over, you’ve taken care of your tasks, and you can finally unwind and relax.
Here are some lovely nightly rituals you can add to your bedtime routine:
- Sip a cup of herbal tea.
- Read a book.
- Watch an episode of a drama.
- 10 minutes of mindfulness meditation.
- Do some bedtime journaling.
- Light some scented candles.
- Do your skincare routine.

13. Lights Out
Surely I’m not the first person telling you to go to bed early?
You know your body needs 8 hours of sleep to rest, recover, and recharge itself, and for that, you need to turn out the lights between 10-11 pm.
Sleeping on time will also help you wake up on time the next morning, and as you know, that is the first step to nailing down this simple daily routine.

Time To Work On Your Daily Routine
I swear by this daily routine for a balanced life, but you might need to make a few tweaks to it to accomodate it for yourself.
We all have different needs, and what looks like a perfect picture to me could mean something else for you.
