Here are 24 things you should do this summer to make your days more exciting, feel-good, and even healthy!

If I had to describe summer in just one way, I’d say it’s the season of possibilities.
It is the longest season of the year, with the longest days. And despite the crazy hot days, life just feels light and not-so-urgent.
That’s why a lot of us head into the season promising to make something out of it.
Every year, we say the same thing: This is going to be the summer.
The summer we get healthy, the summer we try new things, and the summer we actually enjoy ourselves instead of watching it slip by.
But since we don’t give shape to our intentions, most of us end up letting summer pass without really doing much.
Well, this year, let’s change the story.
Below, you’ll find a list of things to do in summer for balanced, happy, and energetic days.

Don’t see this as a stressful checklist or a ‘hot girl summer’ manifesto, because it’s not that.
These are just 24 simple and beautiful summer ideas that will help you make the most of summer.
Pick your favorites, and make this summer worth remembering:
24 Things To Do This Summer
1. Romanticize Your Mornings
My favorite part of summer has to be the mornings. The light is so soft, and the air is fresh before the heat rolls in.
Instead of picking up your phone and scrolling, do some cozy rituals to romanticize your mornings, like:
- Make iced coffee at home and sit outside while you drink it.
- Go for a 20-minute walk before the day starts.
- Read a few pages of a book in the quiet.
- Journal with the windows open.
You don’t have to wake up at 5am to win the day.
Just give yourself a slow start on the days when you can. It will change everything.
2. Plan a Simple Picnic

When we think of picnics, we often imagine a Pinterest-perfect spread, and the idea of this aesthetic perfection makes us lazy about even planning a picnic.
But this summer, have a picnic early in the season and keep it simple.
Pick up fresh bread, cheese, fruit, and something sweet. Pack a blanket, and head to a local park with a friend or solo (with a good book in hand, of course).
Eating outside can make even the simplest meals feel fancy and good.
But if you want to make it feel extra special:
- Bring a small speaker and play a summer playlist.
- Write handwritten invites to friends.
- Wear the dress you’ve been ‘saving’.
3. Take a Day Trip
You don’t need a full vacation to feel refreshed in the summer.
Go to a nearby town you’ve never explored, visit a beach, or wander a farmers’ market in another neighborhood.
Spend the day somewhere that isn’t your usual routine. Pack snacks, leave early, and let yourself get lost (not literally, lol).
The goal is not productivity here. It’s perspective, which makes all the difference in how you experience a season.
4. Create a Summer Reading List

There is nothing like reading in summer. You can read by the poolside, on a balcony, in the morning, or before bed with the fan on (everything works).
This summer, create a summer reading list and include: One light romance, a memoir, a book that makes you think, and something you’ve been meaning to read forever.
Set a small goal (like reading at least two books a month) and keep it realistic and fun.
You can also host a tiny book club with two or three friends. That will definitely level up your summer joy.
5. Have a No Plans Day
Not every summer moment needs to be optimized.
It’s also important to give yourself days when there’s nothing on your calendar, and you are free to just be.
Block off a day with zero expectations. That means no errands, obligations, or forced productivity.
You can wake up when you want and decide what you feel like doing in the moment, and maybe take a nap in the middle of the day if you can.
Sometimes the best memories happen when nothing is scheduled.
6. Try a New Outdoor Workout

Summer is the perfect excuse to take your movement outside. Sunlight plus fresh air plus endorphins is a powerful combination.
You can try:
- Outdoor yoga in the park
- A new hiking trail
- Tennis with a friend
- Long evening walks after dinner
- A community fitness class you’ve been curious about
It does not have to be intense. It just has to get you outside and moving.
7. Host a Casual Dinner Party
You don’t need a reason to host dinner parties, especially during the summer when dinners stretch long, and conversations get deep. Very magical, indeed.
Set the table outside if you can and light candles.
Serve something simple like pasta, grilled vegetables, and a big salad. You can request everyone to bring a bottle of wine or dessert.
Keep it relaxed, let the music play in the background, and don’t stress about perfection.
8. Catch a Sunset on Purpose

Catching sunsets without meaning to is fun, but when you do it with intention, it feels like a mindfulness practice.
Look up the sunset time on any day, and plan to be somewhere with a view like a rooftop, a hill, or the beach.
You can also just park your car somewhere quiet on your way back from work.
Leave your phone in your bag for a few minutes, and just watch the sky change color. Your nervous system will feel like it got a tiny reset.
9. Make a Seasonal Bucket List
What’s summer without a bucket list, right? You can add as many items to the list as you’d like, or keep it short with just five to ten things max.
Examples:
- Try three new ice cream shops
- Go to an outdoor concert
- Swim in natural water
- Have a tech-free Sunday
- Learn one new recipe
I’d suggest keeping your bucket list somewhere you’ll see it so that you actually get the things done.
10. Go to a Farmers Market

There’s something nostalgic about wandering a farmers’ market in the heat of summer.
But instead of buying fancy produce, buy what’s in season.
Get tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes, some fresh berries, watermelon, and a bunch of flowers you would not normally buy for yourself.
Talk to the vendors, try something new (like homemade jam), and build your meals around what you find.
This will make cooking during summer feel creative instead of routine.
11. Refresh Your Space
Summer is a natural time to declutter, organize, and reset your space. But it doesn’t have to feel like a drag.
Open the windows, play some fun music, and then get started with lightening up your space.
Put away the heavy blankets, swap the dark pillow covers and bedsheets for lighter ones, and add some flowers to your room.
Clean all the surfaces and neglected corners, and organize your most-used drawers.
This won’t take too much of your time, but it will definitely make your home more aligned with the season.

12. Spend More Time Near Water

If you can get to a beach, lake, or pool, do it. And if that’s not an option, then improvise.
Set up a kiddie pool in the backyard, or a sprinkler, or take a long shower at the end of the day.
Water cools more than your skin during the summer. It brings relaxation to your mind, too.
Also, bring music, books, and friends when possible to double up on the fun.
13. Unplug for a Weekend
It’s very common for people to spend the summer scrolling and posting pictures online.
But it can also lead to loads of comparisons and unwanted negativity. Also, summer is too short to spend entirely on a screen.
This season, give yourself a break from the online noise for a weekend.
Delete social apps temporarily, turn off the notifications, and leave your phone in another room for the night.
Notice how much time opens in your weekend routine when you do this. You might cook more, talk more, sleep better, and feel less scattered.
14. Try Something Creative

Creativity feels less intimidating in summer. Maybe because the stakes feel lower and you feel okay being messy.
Make sure you tap into your summer inspiration by doing something creative that involves your hands.
Don’t do it for the money or for the content. Do it because it’s fun, because that’s the main point of creating.
You can do:
- Paint without any reference
- Take photos on film
- Write short stories
- Learn how to arrange flowers
- Bake something complicated just to see if you can
15. Reconnect With Old Friends
Out of all the seasons of the year, summer is the one about people and making connections.
This year, I urge you to reconnect with people from your life you haven’t met in a while, and also pour into the bonds you already have.
Text someone you haven’t seen in a while and suggest going for coffee or a walk. Or plan that picnic you’ve been meaning to host.
During the summer, people are just more open because their schedules are softer.
So, make sure to have meaningful conversations, make plans, and make phone calls that you usually think too much about.
16. Take Yourself on Solo Dates

There is something powerful about doing things alone, don’t you think?
And summer, of course, is the best time for solo dates because there are lots of options.
You can go to a museum, or sit at a cafe with a book, see a matinee movie, or wander a local bookstore.
When you’re out alone, order what you want, stay as long as you want, and leave when you’re ready.
Summer is about expansion, and sometimes that means expanding your comfort zone and doing more things alone.
17. Have a Themed Movie Night
One of my favorite things to do in summer is to have themed movie nights. I usually do it with my cousins, but if that’s not possible, I do it alone.
You can watch Italian summer films, early 2000s rom-coms, beachy classics, or even horror (early Halloween vibes, lol).
You can set up a backyard projector under the stars, make popcorn, and pour chilled drinks. It’s always nice to put a little effort into your summer plans.
18. Create a Signature Healthy Summer Meal

It’s very normal to crave ice creams, flavored drinks, and restaurant food during summer.
But one great way to stay healthy-ish would be to create a healthy meal you can have almost every day.
It can be pasta with roasted vegetables, peaches with burrata, or a perfectly chopped salad.
You can master a veggie omelette with good coffee and have it for breakfast every day.
Make the dish often and tweak it until it feels like yours. Your gut will thank you for this.
19. Clean Out Your Closet
Summer style should feel easy, and for that, you need a clean and organized closet.
Pull everything out, keep back what feels good on your body, and let go of what doesn’t.
And whenever shopping in the future, invest in fewer pieces you truly love instead of buying five things you are not sure about.
20. Wake Up Early for One Thing

Choose one morning activity worth waking up for, and show up for it early in the morning.
It can be a sunrise swim, a long drive with no traffic, a long walk outdoors, or a quiet coffee shop visit before it gets busy.
Early summer mornings feel like a beautiful secret. You witness it once, and you’ll want to rise early again and again.
21. Start a Small Garden
Growing a garden is one of the best summer hobbies you can nurture.
You get to watch something grow as a result of you pouring in, and it’s the most beautiful feeling.
Even if it’s just herbs on a windowsill, grow something. Basil, mint, and rosemary are great options.
The whole process will slow you down, make you pay attention, and also make your meals taste better.
22. Say Yes More Often

Summer invitations tend to show up unexpectedly, which is why there are plenty of reasons to turn them down.
But this year, get yourself to say yes more often.
Show up for the last-minute barbecue, take that spontaneous road trip, and have a Tuesday night drink with friends.
You don’t have to say yes to everything. But if your first instinct is hesitation, then pause and ask if you really need to say no.
Sometimes the best moments are unplanned, and they’re what make life worth it.
23. Protect Your Rest
This might seem like conflicting advice considering what we just discussed, but there’s a difference between enjoying life by saying yes and letting yourself burn out.
If you are not careful, your summer might get overbooked too quickly.
Don’t fill every weekend, and don’t let yourself be spoken for every evening. Leave room for rest during the season.
Protect a few nights each week for staying in, doing long skincare routines, having early bedtimes, and also doing absolutely nothing.
Joy does not require exhaustion.
Balance relaxation with energetic summer activities, because both are their own kind of fun and important.
24. Make a Memory on Purpose

At some point this summer, pause and think: I want to remember this.
It can be a specific dinner, a trip, or a random weekend that feels especially good.
You can also plan a hiking trip to a beautiful top and then sit and memorize the moment.
Take photos, write about it in your journey, and notice how it feels in your body.
The season will pass like it always does.
But small intentional moments stretch time and make you remember good things long into the future.
