In my teen years, whenever I met a morning person, I’d whip out my notepad and ask them for some tips to wake up early in the morning.
I was in desperate need of a morning miracle to make myself love rolling out of bed.
My phone alarm couldn’t do it, my mom’s wake-up shouts were just noise to my foggy brain, and the warnings of missing school just made me want to keep snoozing.
If you’re not a fan of getting up early, I bet you can relate to my past self. It’s not easy to rise and shine when you’re not a big fan of rising in the first place.
Back to my morning sob story – Nobody was able to give me the morning hacks I was looking for.
But soon college was over and I was on my own, with no choice but to crack the morning code once and for all.
It took me months of error and trial to discover some effective tricks to wake up early in the morning, and all my efforts paid off.
I am now able to wake up as early as 5 am! And believe me when I say this – I’ve never been more productive in my entire life.
The best thing is that these tips will work for everyone, which is why I know you’re going to absolutely love this post. 🙂

8 Genius Tips To Wake Up Early In The Morning
1. Be Strategic With Your Alarm
First and foremost, I hope you have a traditional alarm clock that goes off loud enough to wake the neighbors.
Your phone makes it too easy to hit snooze and doze off. So, get an alarm clock, and keep it on a table far away from your bed.
This will force you to drag yourself up to turn it off. After this, you really have to try your best to not go back to bed.
But in case this doesn’t do the trick for you, follow this strategic method of setting your alarm clock:
Say, you have to wake up at 6 am. Set your alarm clock to 5:30, 5;45, and finally 6:00.
At first glance, this trick might sound annoying, but surprisingly, it’s not.
In fact, I’ve been loving waking up half an hour earlier, turning off my alarm, and realizing that I can sleep some more (isn’t that the best feeling in the world?)
By the time your final alarm goes off, you’d have gotten two sweet morning naps in. Waking up at your assigned time shouldn’t be so difficult after that.

2. Drag Your Sleepy Body Into A Stretching Pose
Have you ever started your morning with a child’s pose? One minute of doing this popular yoga routine can do wonders for your morning mood.
You don’t need to be fully up to start moving your body. I sometimes roll in my bed and do a cow pose while my brain is still half asleep.
Two things happen when I do this. One, my morning routine kickstarts right away, and two, my body comes in sync with my mind.
If there’s one morning tip I suggest you don’t miss out on, it’s this one. Trust me, your body will love waking up this way.
Child’s pose, cat-cow, cobra stretch, downward-facing dog, and lotus pose are some simple yet effective stretches worth adding to your morning routine.
It will take time to build this habit, but once you start doing these beautiful stretches in the morning, you won’t be able to go without them.

3. Turn On The Lights
Got a lamp on your nightstand? You might want to flick it on when you’re up and expose your eyes to some light.
Staying in the dark for more than a few minutes after waking up will likely make you fall right back asleep.
I turn on my ceiling lights after my bed-stretching routine to remind my senses that a new day is here and it’s time to make the most of it.
Also, don’t forget to open your blinds and windows to let in some natural light and fresh air. If possible, catch a glimpse of the rising sun.
The early morning sunlight is excellent for your eyesight. Plus, greeting the sun at the crack of dawn will immediately send you into a happy zone.
This is one of the simplest tips to wake up early, but it works like a charm.

4. Exercise Every Day (At The Right Time)
It’s no secret that daily exercise is really important for your overall well-being. It aids in stress relief, keeps your body healthy, and boosts your energy.
Most importantly, if you exercise every day, you will go to bed on time and sleep like a baby. As a result, you’ll find it simpler to wake early in the morning.
So, if you’ve been neglecting your workouts, it’s high time to make them a priority for the sake of getting your morning routine in order.
The time that you choose to work out at is just as important. If your goal is to become a morning person, then the best time to exercise would be in the evening.
Morning exercise could also help, as it would give you the incentive to wake up on time. Plus, nothing can beat the energy that comes from a sweaty morning workout.
Experiment with your workout timings before sticking with a schedule that works best for you.

5. Use An Ice Roller To Shake Off Those Sleepy Vibes
You might have no trouble waking up to the alarm clock, and maybe you even do the stretching routines and stay upright for a minute more, only to find yourself back in bed and falling asleep.
This happens because of the persistent lazy morning vibes that tempt you to resume your bedtime instead of starting your day instead.
The best way to break free of the morning haze is to bring something super refreshing to the game, and an ice roller is the perfect choice.
It is a skincare tool that has been making rounds in the wellness industry because of its amazing ability to reduce skin puffiness.
But for me, it’s the morning tool that holds me back from going back to bed after waking up super early in the morning.
An ice roller will wake your body up, recharge your brain, and will you with a beautiful dewy look. It’s the best thing you’ll find to make your mornings fresh and healthy.
Store your ice roller in the refrigerator in a ziplock bag overnight, and wash it after every use.

6. Set Your Intentions The Night Before
You could have a gazillion good reasons for waking up early, but they won’t turn into a morning person. Having solid intentions will.
When you are in the initial phase of building a new habit, intentions can play a major role in making the habit stick.
Simply telling yourself ‘I need to wake up early for my workout’ won’t work. That’s a healthy morning goal, but the intention behind it has not been solidified.
To turn your plans into actions, you need intentions to act as a bridge. That’s why I highly recommend you set your intentions for the next day every night before bed.
Create a to-do list for your next morning, pen down your intentions in your journal in bullet points, and write an encouraging quote or two for a boost of inspiration.
This is one of the best daily habits that completely changed the morning game for me, and I’m sure if you give it a shot, it’ll do the same for you.

7. Improve The Quality Of Your Sleep
When it comes to good sleep, the number of sleeping hours absolutely matters, but what people fail to prioritize is their quality of sleep.
You could sleep for twelve hours straight and still wake up with a terrible backache, whereas seven hours of quality sleep can leave you feeling fresh and fantastic.
To sleep better at night, get yourself a sleeping mask. It helps you block outer light and helps you tune into your sleeping mode.
A humidifier is worth investing in too. It will soothe your sense and also moisturize your skin while you sleep (a golden bonus, if you ask me.)
Also, please make sure your bedding is of good quality.
I know this can be a slightly expensive purchase, but you spend about 8 hours a day on your bed, and your health should not be compromised because of it.
Your bedding should be soft, and comfortable, and not make you achy in the mornings. Also, change your sheets every week to stay hygienic.
P.S.: Building a self-care night routine can do wonders for your sleep.
8. Make Your Mornings Pleasant
One of the simplest tips to wake up early is to create a pleasant morning routine.
For some people, mornings are naturally a happy part of the day, but those who don’t enjoy waking up need to make their mornings more enjoyable.
Morning is not just about being productive, getting a quick workout done, showering, and rushing to work.
It’s the time of day when should slow down, breathe, and take a few moments to set a positive tone for your day.
Ever tried writing morning pages in your journal? It’s a perfect way to set down your intentions for the day. You can also pen down affirmations and fill your soul with good thoughts.
Meditating in the morning can help you tap into mindfulness and keep you calm throughout the day. You can also pray, count your blessings, and create a gratitude list.
While doing your morning chores, tune into a podcast. If you take coffee in the morning, then sip it by your window as you breathe in some fresh air.
Read something positive, even if it’s for 10 minutes. It can be a blog you love, a self-help book, or your old journal entries that make you feel good.
These are some simple morning rituals but they can go a long way to making you love your mornings.
