Set yourself up for a powerful week with this smart Monday morning routine and learn to master the most dreaded day of the week.
If I did a vote for the worst day of the week, Monday would definitely come out as the winner.
Many of us find ourselves hitting the snooze button on Monday mornings, hoping to stay in the weekend bliss just a little longer.
But when life calls, you have to answer, and Mondays are very much a real part of that life.
Now, you can either give in to your Monday blues or learn to conquer the first day of the week through a powerful morning routine.
You’re probably sick of hearing about the importance of morning habits and routines, but they are hailed all over the world for a reason.
Even if you’re a go-with-the-flow kind of person, having a structured routine in the morning can give you the headstart you need to take control of your day.
And since Monday is the first day of the week, it’s only fair to treat it special and create a dedicated morning routine fitting for this overwhelming (yet wonderful) day.
But before you breeze forward, could you maybe pin this post? Sharing is caring!
Relax those shoulders, slip into your mindful mode, and tame your Monday blues with this powerful morning routine that I personally swear by for a great week.
Let’s dive in!
8 Smart Monday Morning Habits
1. Bed Meditation
My Monday blues settle at the moment I crack my eyes open, so I do the best thing that anybody can to still their thoughts – meditation!
The reason you dread Mondays isn’t because it’s a cursed day. It’s just your mind running ahead of time, living in the future thinking about the five working days ahead.
But the only thing you should be thinking about is the present, and meditation can help you get there.
Begin your Monday with a brief mindfulness meditation session in bed.
Stretch a little before getting into a seated position, and spend 5-10 minutes focusing on your breath.
Tap into mindfulness, and open your mind to the beautiful morning vibes.
When you’re ready, leave the bed, grab a glass of water (morning hydration, babe), and get ready for the next part of your Monday morning routine.

2. 5-Minute Gratitude Journaling
Gratitude is one of the prominent feelings that are missing on a Monday morning.
The dread of heading to work or running after the kids and getting them ready for school can make you forget about the million reasons why life is so good.
Of course, you’re going to face challenges in your day, but a grateful heart finds it easier to sail past the problems than a mind that’s full of crankiness.
So, before doing anything else, take a moment to reflect on the things you’re grateful for.
Write down three things that you appreciate in your life, whether it’s a skincare product, a loved one, or the sunlight streaming in through the windows.
This 5-minute practice will tip your thoughts away from negativity, toward abundance and happiness.
3. Prioritize Your Tasks With A To-Do List
Uncertainty and confusion regarding your schedule can make Monday a challenging day to navigate.
Well, why not aim for the root cause and get rid of this issue by sorting out your tasks?
Create a to-do list for the day and prioritize your tasks, starting with the most important ones and going down to the least important ones.
The clearer you are about your daily tasks, the less likely you will be to feel overwhelmed.
Our brain thrives on the sense of control.
And something as simple as a to-do list can be really helpful in giving yourself the control over your routine that you so desperately seek on a Monday.

4. Dress For Success
Let me start off by saying that you are beautiful in each and every form, be it comfy PJs or an old pair of jeans.
If you can rock on a baggy tee and are comfortable in a worn-out pair of sneakers, then go ahead and don that outfit for Monday.
But I personally like to kick off my week with my best outfit (and I mean it when I say my best.)
It’s no secret that dressing well and grooming nicely can boost your self-esteem. You are at your best when you feel your best.
So, select an outfit that makes you feel amazing, and put effort into your appearance.
That might mean going heavy on makeup or wearing a pair of red shiny heels.
This feel-good look will act as an armor against your troublesome thoughts, helping you channel your girl boss vibes on your least favorite day of the week.
5. Positive Affirmations
Affirmations are hands-down my favorite tool for boosting my self-belief within a minute.
Whenever I start my day with an affirmation, my approach toward life turns into a can-do attitude.
It’s amazing how simple statements like “I am capable” can completely shift your attitude toward a new day.
You can skip your daily affirmations throughout the week, but on a Monday, you need this positivity to remind yourself of your goals and intentions.
There is an abundance of motivation within you waiting to be unleashed, and affirmations can be your first step toward unlocking the power within you.
Here are some empowering Monday affirmations for you:
- I am ready to tackle the challenges of the week with determination and enthusiasm.
- I am grateful for the fresh start that Monday brings.
- I choose to see opportunities in every situation.
- I am capable of achieving my goals and making progress, one step at a time.
- I embrace the energy of a new week.
- I am in control of my attitude.
- I let go of any negativity from the past week.
- I am resilient, and I can handle whatever comes my way this week.
- I am excited to learn and grow.
- I am grateful for another Monday to make a difference in my life.
You can recite these affirmations out loud, or write them down on a paper to carry with you for the rest of the day. They really help.

6. Enjoy A Healthy Breakfast
One of the healthiest things you can do in the morning is have a good breakfast.
Now, I know we can’t stick to this habit every single day, but a healthy breakfast is a must on Monday.
You can’t ignore the importance of good food for your health.
When your body gets a protein-rich diet first thing in the morning, it’ll be fueled and recharged throughout the day.
You’ll find it easier to stay up on your feet, be more focused, and nurture a healthy living mindset.
Instead of rushing through your breakfast, go slow and take mindful bites from your plate.
Help yourself slow down your Monday thoughts by giving importance to the most important meal of the day.
Your week deserves this health-conscious and power-packed start, and so does your body.
My current favorite breakfast options:
- Greek yogurt
- Omelette and fruit juice
- Avocado toast
- Whole grain pancakes
- Breakfast burrito
- Chickpea and veggie scramble
7. Connect With Loved Ones
I have explored many ways to curb my Monday anxiety, but nothing beats the comfort that you get from reaching out to a loved one.
I was staying with my family during my college days, and hugging my mom was the best way to start my mornings.
I’d usually have breakfast in my room, but at the start of the week, I made it a point to gather everyone at the breakfast table.
We would laugh, talk, share our plans for the day, and everything would be better.
You can do the same if you live with a sibling, your parents, or a roommate (who you’d need to be on good terms with, of course.)
But if that’s not an option, then have a quick text exchange with your bestie.
Make it fun, rant about your morning in one sentence, and tell them you love them.
Little interactions like these can help you combat feelings of loneliness and feel emotionally supported by your loved ones.
In return, you’ll make their day better too, so it’s a win-win situation for everyone.

8. Listen To Inspirational Content
Your mind reflects back thoughts that it receives. Feed yourself positivity, and creating positive thoughts will come naturally to you.
I am not as regular with podcasts as I’d like to be, but in moments when I am seeking some confidence, I don’t hesitate to hit play on a motivational speaker.
It works like a charm against my overthinking tendencies, and I am grateful to have the option to seek inspiration like this on Monday mornings.
While getting ready on Monday, listen to inspiring podcasts and audiobooks to take your mind off the fact that it’s a Monday (yeah, that can help.)
Create a Monday playlist that you can listen to on your way to work.
Happy songs and soothing melodies can be excellent against Monday blues.
And incorporating them into your Monday morning routine will help you tap into your good vibes and be more optimistic.
9. Avoid Negative News
Starting your week with positive content can help you maintain a more optimistic outlook on life.
On the other hand, negative news stories often evoke feelings of fear, anxiety, and sadness.
I know it’s important to know what’s going on around the world, and some of you might prefer scrolling through your social media feeds for daily updates.
But all of that can wait for a few hours.
For the most part of your Monday morning, your focus should be on mindfulness, and negative news can rob you of that.
To avoid them, consider establishing a morning routine that prioritizes positive content like motivational quotes, uplifting articles, or personal affirmations.
Limit exposure to news sources that tend to focus on sensational or negative stories.
Instead, save your news consumption for later in the day when you’re in a more settled and resilient state of mind.
This little adjustment will make a big difference to your mental health, I can promise you that.
