In recent years, the term “glow up” has become a buzzword in beauty and self-improvement circles. But what exactly does it mean?
A true glow-up is more than just a makeover.
It’s about about enhancing your natural beauty, adopting healthier habits, and boosting your confidence from within.
I like to think of it as a way to invest in yourself. Not with money (though some amount of it is surely needed), but with your time, energy, and patience.
It’s more than okay to desire a change that makes you feel more vibrant and confident.
It doesn’t make you vain; it just means you are ready to prioritize self-care and embrace your best self.

16 Glow Up Tips That Won’t Disappoint You
1. Hydrate Well
First things first, to give yourself that ultimate glow up, you need to start drinking water like it’s your job.
Hydration is key to glowing skin, better digestion, and overall health. On the other hand, dehydration can lead to dull skin, fatigue, and even mood swings.
Your body needs water to thrive and shine, and nobody else can force-feed it to you.
Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day, and sometimes add a fruit (like strawberry) to your bottle to romanticize this mundane but important habit.
I promise you’ll notice a big difference in your skin’s health and your overall energy levels.
2. Get Your Beauty Sleep
Whoever coined the term ‘beauty sleep’ knew what they were talking about. It’s the real deal, friends.
When you don’t sleep well, you end up with dark circles, puffiness, and an irritated mood.
But give yourself good sleep every night, and it ultimately reflects in the form of better mental and physical health.
Create a bedtime routine that includes winding down without screens, maybe some light reading or meditation, and stick to a consistent sleep schedule.
Remember that your body regenerates and repairs itself during sleep, so prioritize it above all other work and commitments.
3. Take A Food Intolerance Test
If you’ve ever found yourself scratching your head over sudden acne breakouts, constant gut issues, or low energy levels despite eating well, the problem might be your diet.
You need to identify foods that may be causing bloating, skin issues, or fatigue, and a food intolerance test is the way to find that out.
Once you have your results, you can tailor your diet to suit your body’s needs and avoid things that you know are harmful to you.
This is way better than going around eliminating every single thing that the internet and influencers deem ‘unhealthy’.
The knowledge about how your body reacts to different foods will make it easier to eat in moderation and make food choices that are healthier for you.
4. Find Different Ways To Move Your Body
Everyone knows that exercise can be game-changing for your health.
For most people, the lack of awareness isn’t the struggle. It’s motivation to workout that they struggle to find.
For this, you need to have a variety of workout options that you can pick from according to your needs and mood.
Don’t feel like doing home cardio? Maybe you can go for a long walk instead.
Not in the mood to hit the gym? The park is always a good place to run instead.
Cycling, dancing, stretching, yoga — there is so much to pick from!
And even if you prefer sticking to one thing consistently, there are ways to make each routine different.
Cyclists can take a new route, home workout lovers can try a new fitness channel for a change, and yoga can be taken outdoors every other day.
So, mix up your routine with different workouts to keep things interesting and challenge your body in new ways.
Because exercise is not just about looking good; it’s about feeling good too!
5. Be Consistent With Skincare
Skincare only works when you are really consistent with it. Sometimes, it can even take months before your skincare results start showing up.
Using the right products can make all the difference here.
If you’re confused about what would suit your skin, I’d highly recommend talking to a dermatologist as they’d be able to recommend products based on your skin type and condition.
I’ve been following the same four-step skincare routine for the past few years, and that’s more than enough for me — Cleanse, tone, moisturize, and sunscreen.
Find a skincare routine that works for you and stick to it. This is a step you just can’t skip in this checklist.
6. Look After Your Hair
Healthy hair equals happy hair, and that in turn translates to a glowy look.
Show your hair some love with regular trims, deep conditioning treatments, and minimal heat styling.
Use products that nourish and protect your hair, like leave-in conditioners and heat protectants.
Try to limit the use of heat tools like straighteners and curlers as they can cause damage over time.
Instead, Embrace your natural texture and experiment with different hairstyles.
Once in a while, pop up at the salon to get professional hair nourishing treatments.
7. Whiten That Smile
A bright smile can do wonders for your confidence and how you see yourself in the mirror.
Take care of your teeth by regular brushing and flossing, and change your brush every three months.
Try whitening strips or a DIY baking soda paste for pearly whites. They actually work!
For an extra boost, you can go for professional whitening treatments (although you don’t have to).
At the very least, make sure to visit your dentist regularly for cleanings and check-ups.
8. Stock Up On Healthy Food Alternatives
If your house is full of snacks and sodas, it’s obviously going to be tempting to binge-eat or ditch healthy meal preps.
The kind of food you consume impacts your skin and body more than you know.
I believe in enjoying comfort foods and not restricting anything, but it’s also important to consume healthy and nutritious things.
If you drink soda four times a day in summer, then why not replace two of those with a glass of coconut water?
This is what I mean by having healthy food alternatives at home. Instead of ice cream, you can have flavored yogurt.
Cold coffees can sometimes be swapped for smoothies and freshly squeezed juice.
Stock your pantry and fridge with healthy options like these so that it’s easier to practice mindful eating and feed your body good stuff.
9. Perfect Your Posture
When I say perfect, I mean healthy and painless.
Good posture not only makes you look confident but also prevents problems related to your gut, back, and neck.
Make a conscious effort to correct your posture throughout the day.
Practice standing and sitting up straight, and avoid slouching while walking. If you work from desk for long hours, invest in a good quality chair.
Strengthening your core muscles with exercises like planks and yoga can also help improve your posture.
Stand tall and walk proud; you have nothing to be embarrassed or scared about, girl.
10. Mind Your Makeup
Makeup choices vary from woman to woman, and I don’t think anyone has a right to tell you the amount of makeup you should wear.
But since this post is all about healthy and natural glow-up tips, I have to advocate for what’s healthiest for your body.
And when it comes to makeup, less is actually more. The more products you expose your skin to, the more damage it might cause.
On the other hand, there is something refreshing and powerful in the act of doing minimal makeup.
Enhance your natural beauty with minimal makeup – mascara, a touch of blush, and some lip gloss for a rosy look.
Focus on creating a natural, radiant look that highlights your best features, and experiment with techniques to find what works best for you.
Also, always remove your makeup before bed to save your skin from being harmed.
11. Dress To Feel Your Best
Confidence comes from feeling good in what you’re wearing, so embrace your style and rock it.
Experiment with different outfits, colors, and accessories until you find what makes you feel most confident.
Wear more of what makes you feel awesome, and ditch clothes that feel uncomfortable and icky on your skin.
Remember, it’s not about following trends but about finding what makes you feel comfortable and stylish.
Your personal style is a form of self-expression, so have fun with it.

12. Give Yourself Self-Care Sundays (Or Saturdays)
Whether you’re a girl boss, a beautiful mom, or a college gal, every woman needs regular self-care to feel like a diva.
It’s the one practice that can nourish your body, mind, and soul all at once.
Dedicate one day of your weekend to pampering yourself.
Bubble baths, face masks, and a good book can do wonders for your soul.
I love cooking my favorite meal (red source pasta) and enjoy it while watching a movie.
Fill your Sunday (or Saturday) with such feel-good activities and make it all about you.
13. Surround Yourself With Positive Vibes
I won’t say ‘positive vibes only’, because that’s unrealistic in this age and world.
All human emotions are valid and deserve your attention, even the negative ones.
But to a large extent, you do have the option to seek what’s positive and stay away from the negative.
I’m talking about the kind of people you hang out with, the content you consume, the kind of words you use, and whether you complain about life or choose to let go.
These things impact your mental health and then reflect on the outside.
The more positivity you have around you, the more you will glow.

14. Bust That Stress
Stress can be a major glow-down, and sadly, many people don’t consider it a serious threat.
We often treat stress as a necessary evil to get things done, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to reduce its presence in your mind.
Take time each day to unwind and de-stress.
Techniques like mindfulness meditation, yoga, and even simple deep breathing can help calm your mind and reduce stress levels.
A sure-fit way to manage stress is to indulge in a hobby every single day, even if it’s for fifteen minutes.
A stress-free mind means a stress-free and glowy body, always remember that.
15. Keep Working On Yourself
Something I’ve realized while working on my quest for a glow-up is that it’s not something you attain once and hold on to for life.
Glow-up is an ongoing process, and that actually makes it more valuable.
All the tips you’ve received in this post, from doing fun workouts to having self-care days, won’t work unless you’re really consistent with them.
Of course, there will be times when glowing up won’t be a priority for you, and that’s just fine.
But for the majority of your days, stick with your glow-up habits.
Create daily, weekly, and monthly checklists if you must. Planning and organizing will help you make glow-up a part of your daily routine.
16. Practice Self-Love
The last and perhaps the best tip I can share with you today is to love yourself fiercely, without any conditions.
Self-love is the foundation of any glow-up. Without it, it’ll be hard to keep working on yourself on your bad days.
Accept your flaws even as you work on them, recognize your strengths with pride, and love your body in every shape and size.
Just like you wouldn’t shame a friend for going through different body stages, don’t shame yourself either.
Celebrate the unique qualities that make you who you are, from your skin color to your voice tone.
And always remember that you are worthy of receiving love and compassion from yourself and from others.
Let your glow up be a journey of self-love, rather than of insecurity.

I know there’s a good chance that you knew some of these tips beforehand.

Just like I also know that despite already being aware of some of these tips, you haven’t really been practicing them.

Make a list of the tips you think you can tick off, and build your wellness on them over the course of the next days.
