It’s 5:30 A.M. here as I am writing the intro to this post. I’ve just been back from my morning run, and something amazing happened on my route today that I couldn’t wait to share with you.

To make this a long-lasting habit, it’s important to follow a fixed preparation method that fits your schedule well.
I know it can be hard for some people to shake off their sleepy vibes and actually get moving early.
So, I thought I might share my own techniques for getting ready for a morning workout.
Here are the steps I recommend you take to prepare for an early morning exercise:
- Sleep on time the night before to wake up fresh in the morning.
- Have your workout clothes and shoes laid out in advance.
- Set your alarm clock away from your bed, so that you’re forced to get up, reducing your chances of going back to sleep.
- After waking up, freshen up and wash your face with mildly cold water.
- Drink a glass of warm water to get rid of toxins in your gut. Make sure to sip slowly.
- If hungry, have a banana as a pre-workout meal.
- Put on your clothes and shoes, then use a journal to set your workout intentions for the morning.
- And finally, hit the road/gym/your living room for a sweaty workout session.

I definitely struggle staying consistent with my morning workouts. I enjoy them when they are over…lol! I get up early enough (thanks to my husband leaving early for work), but if I sit down before working out that’s pretty much the end of it. I need to be more disciplined about just getting the workout done.

I find that relatable. There are times when I end up missing out on my morning workouts for days, and it doesn’t feel that good if I don’t have a good enough reason for it. Though I found a good solution for it. I’ve now made it a rule to maintain a 3-day morning workout streak. I am allowed to skip the 4th day if I feel tired, but I have to get back on the 5th to build another streak. Has worked like charm for me. You might find this helpful too.
